nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 I disagree with Skip Bayless. He was especially reaching on the Belichick argument, going back to Bill's years in Cleveland. Other than his time with the Giants, has Parcells really been THAT great of a coach? I think he's terribly overhyped. It must be the nickname. Or the fact that he's made the playoffs with four different teams and led three of those teams to the Super Bowl. There's not really anybody else that has that kind of resume in the NFL, you know? The only Parcells coaching stop that's actually impressed me is the one with the Giants. He came to the Pats the same year that they'd finished with the worst record and was getting the #1 pick in the draft. Make as many "Bledoe's teh suck" jokes as you want, but he was a definite improvement over anyone New England had been using the year before and put the Pats in a position to win just about any game by throwing the ball as much as needed (the Minny game rings a bell). Right place at the right time #1. He went to the Jets after they went 1-15 due to QB injury. I forget who was their starter the year before (Vinny Testaverde?) but whoever it was missed most of the year due to injury. Basically, getting him back at 100% would have immediately improved their record regardless of who was coaching. Right place at the right time #2. Then he went to the Cowboys, and admittedly made some improvements in year 1, but didn't do much this year. HOw much of the improvement was really him, and how much of it was right place at the right time #3?!? Parcells == overrated So they had some frivolous "send-off" for the Pats in the Gillette parking lot this morning, with a stage and the mayor of Boston and the govenors of the New England states there (at least they didn't have John Kerry there, who would have called the QB "Tom Bruschi" or something). Save that stuff for the parade AFTER the game, guys. It was more an ownership/fans coordinated thing than Belichick and the players. Most of it was just the 5-thousand fans cheering highlights on a jumbotron with a quick player appearance on their way to the airport.

Right place at the right time #1. Well give him credit for picking Bledsoe instead of Rick Mirer and Curtis Martin in the third round (95). Plus, do you honestly think another coach could have taken the 96 team to a Super Bowl AS A LAME-DUCK. He got the most out of his teams there and thats all you can ask from a coach. QB injuries played a part but it was mostly because of Rich Kotite. Anyway, Neil O'Donnell was the QB for the Jets in 97 before Vinny had his big year in 98. 99 was ying and yang, he made a huge mistake by not aggressively pursuing a back-up for Vinny however he did an incredible coaching job having the team ready to play each week and the Jets going 7-2 in the last nine games. Then he went to the Cowboys, and admittedly made some improvements in year 1, but didn't do much this year. HOw much of the improvement was really him, and how much of it was right place at the right time #3?!? Right place, Right time hardly. The team in 03 had no buisness going 10-6 and he even said that himself. The jury is still out here but personally if they have a real QB they could contend for the NFC Title next season. You heard it here first. Parcells == overrated To an extent yes and theres no denying Belichick's role in his success. However, he finds a way to get the most out of his teams most of the time and is certainly a HOF coach when he retires.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2005 Ugh Kotite. Eagles started 7-2 in 1994 and finished 7-9 thanks to some of his moronic decisions. Then he goes to the Jets and has a 3-13 season followed up by that 1-15 debacle with more talent. Dallas won't contend for the NFC East as long as the Eagles are still on their run, which should be for a few more years. Jerry also needs to keep having good drafts so he can keep Dallas stocked with that young talent which should really pay off once the Eagles' top players (McNabb, Dawkins, Owens, Kearse) start showing their age. smh810 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2005 Sorry to bring up bad memories dude, don't get me wrong I expect the Eagles to be good for a while too (and it pains me to admit that being a Tampa sports fan). I just think Dallas with a good QB could be a big threat in the NFC since the conference is weak and I really dont see it improving next year, although having the Eagles in their division could obviously work against them. 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2005 The Eagles have five draft picks in the first two rounds, not to mention a lot of money left under the cap to spend. They're going to be the head of the class of the NFC for a long, long time.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 1, 2005 does anyone like how the media seems to slowly be shifting from "will T.O play?" hype to the "Tom Brady is the next Joe Montana" hype?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2005 does anyone like how the media seems to slowly be shifting from "will T.O play?" hype to the "Tom Brady is the next Joe Montana" hype? Game is getting closer, was to be expected eventually that would begin. I hate hype weeks. It's basically the media being bored and just making up the stupidest stories they can think of. Just like every sports outlet in the country becomes a continous 6pm Sportscenter.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2005 Seems like most of the hype is still about TO to me. It was funny hearing him on Media Day saying that a bunch of people came over and prayed for him and "If you're looking for a miracle, wait until Sunday." He's Curt Schilling in October without the humility. I keep waiting for him to say something like "When I was riding on the team bus to the practice field, I kept seeing signs every mile wishing me luck." Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted February 1, 2005 He's Curt Schilling in October without the humility. *head explodes* here is a supremly excellent article about media day. It's written by Chris Connelly, who I seem to remember from my youth as a pudgy man with bad hair who did movie reviews for MTV. So why he's writing Super Bowl articles for ESPN I can't say, but he's done an excellent job. read

KingPK 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 Fuck, Merril's picking them? Great, now TO is going to catch 15 for 160 and 3 TDs while Jeremiah Trotter is going to score a rushing TD. I never trust a guy who has a feminine sounding first name.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 Come on, guys. He probably is only picking them because they are the safe bet. Nothing more or less. New England still will probably win.

therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 Come on, guys. He probably is only picking them because they are the safe bet. Nothing more or less. New England still will probably win. He's been wrong about the Eagles the entire season. Picked them to finish 8-8 and for Washington to win the division. I believe he picked Minnesota in the divisionals and Atlanta in the championship game in his Steelers-Falcons SB pick. This is basically another chance to see Hoge fall flat on his face about the Eagles like the rest of the year. Had he picked the Eagles to win, I'd be REALLY worried since he pretty much never did the entire season. Just karma I guess.
