therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 Man Merril Hodge is a moron. I just saw him on NFL Live saying that by the 4th quarter the Patriots will be so far ahead we'll have lost count. Well what did you expect? He's got to justify that Eagles 8-8 prediction he made in the preseason, along with that Steelers-Falcons Super Bowl pick. Something tells me Merril had one too many concussions in his playing days...

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 I'm barely seeing anyone at all picking The Eagles. Jason White is now dead to me forever as I saw him picking the Patriots on the College Football All-Star challenge.....grrrrr....... This game is just prime for an upset though. Nobody has given the Eagles any credit and it's just ripe for them to pull the shocker.

Nobody has given the Eagles any credit and it's just ripe for them to pull the shocker. It's not about not giving the Eagles any credit. Its about the fact that the Eagles are playing a team that finished 14-2, and just beat two of the dominant teams in the NFL, rather easily. I think the Eagles have a good chance, and I hope they win. But any rational analysis is going to see the Patriots as the better team.

Remember though, that was the second time the Patriots were playing both Pittsburgh and Indy. Belichick is basically in Manning's head, and Roethlisberger's performance against the Jets should've pretty much told everyone that the Pats were going to roll over Pittsburgh. McNabb can definitley give the Patriots' defense trouble with his arm and mobility, whereas Manning only had an arm and Roethlisberger was injured and throwing picks out like candy. KingPK 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 There's more analysts out there than Merrill "Covering My Ass" Hodge. Jaworski picked the Eagles, and he's pretty smart. There were a bunch of celebrity picks in the paper today, and most are for the Pats (Carrot Top picked them, which covers the "Demon Spawn" demographic.) Almost every Eagles pick was "Well, I'm from/have family in/own half of Philly, so I have to pick them", though. Is it me, or are there a TON of Eagles fans in Jacksonville? I heard that people were going to go down there without a hotel room or a ticket just to be there, but it's getting a little out of hand.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Is Jacksonville really that awful of a city? I didn't think it was all that bad when I was there for a few days a few years ago, but every reporter I'm reading just totally murders the place. From SI.com: City limits Jacksonville is not cut out to host a Super Bowl Posted: Thursday February 3, 2005 3:02PM; Updated: Thursday February 3, 2005 3:02PM Let's not see Super Bowl tickets that say "Jacksonville" on them ever again. AP JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- You tried. You really did. All you lovely, helpful residents of this unlovely, disastrous town -- all you get-the-door volunteers, with your yellow windbreakers and shining smiles and palpable, desperate need to lend a hand -- truly gave it your all this week. You did everything in your collective power to make every visitor think and feel that this was anything but a sprawling, swampy, godforsaken roach motel. You tried. Hard. So know this, folks: It's not your fault. In retrospect, I -- along with the thousands of media members filing similar dispatches this week -- will never hold you accountable for the sins of the NFL, which was given every conceivable reason to NOT bring this game (and thus, me) here and still decided that Jacksonville was ready for its ill-conceived, cruise-ship-addled close-up. That you beautiful, big-hearted people live in a place with an unconscionable lack of hotel rooms, decent restaurants, recognizable city centers, attractive gathering places, cultural options, available taxis and dependable weather patterns, shouldn't be held against you. Just because I've heard your city called "scummy" and "smelly" too many times to count this week -- and one grizzled, overly nasty scribe proclaim yesterday, "The only attractive people here are the out-of-town strippers" -- shouldn't give you or your phalanx of defensive local columnists any more of a complex. It's just that the very things that make this place so livable for you -- no big-city bustle, no discernable tourism industry, no apparent geographic center --unfortunately make it, by far, the worst Super Bowl burg ever. So please, y'all: Keep smiling. Because at this rate, your pearly whites may just be all we've got. And it just keeps going with others.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 They're all pissed that Jacksonville isn't of the same magnitude of a New Orleans and that the weather hasn't been sunny and in the 70's for every day that they've been there. To that: I say fuck them. They are there for free and get to see the SB live for free and I'd kill to do their job.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 I have a bet that the Pats D will not allow a single TD. Odds are you'll lose that one. As good as the Pats defense can be, shutting out the Eagles offense is going to be next to impossible. Should be a good game and so far, everyone who has come on PTI has picked the Eagles. Also, why is it no one remembers the Patriots have faced Donovan McNabb? All I've heard is, "The Patriots have never faced a quarterback like McNabb"....well sure, if you just forget last season ever existed. And can some Philly fans stop saying if the Eagles win this will be the greatest upset in Super Bowl history please. If the Eagles win, it'll be a fine effort but not the greatest upset in the history of the Super Bowl. Hell, the Patriots beating the Rams wasn't even the greatest and the only "analyst" that picked the Patriots that year was Joe Theismann.

Is anything really required outside of a football stadium? There actually is a set list of requirements set out by the NFL for a city to host the Super Bowl, chief among them weather conditions. That's why a notion a few years ago to have Super Bowls in Washington DC and New York were laughed out of the boardroom.

If they ever build a new giants or jets park in NYC, it would be a lock for a SB so long as it has a retractable roof/dome. yknow the NFL would love to have the biggest event of its year in the Biggest marjet in the US

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Hoge is a bandwagon jumper and a moron. It's that simple. When New England looked dead and everyone was picking the Colts, he picked the Colts. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Just curious- what was the SD fiasco? San Diego hosted a Super Bowl a couple of years ago (Tampa/Oakland) and the NFL was very displeased with the stadium's maintenance, remarking that they would never come back to San Diego in that condition. therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 GREAT email I got tonight, take a look at it: As the city celebrates and the Birds prepare the first of what will hopefully be many Super Bowls in the Reid-McNabb era, I think it's appropriate to remember all those past Eagles from our lifetime.Eagles who never got a chance to play in this game but sure made their mark and helped make Eagle football and Eagles Fans what we are on this glorious day. So without further adieu... Who Is This One For? This one's for Randall "Let Me be Me" and his Ugly Flap, because he was Mike Vick and Donnie Mac before there was Mike Vick and Donnie Mac. This one's for Ricky "For Who, For What" Watters, who gave Gruden the finger long before Chucky broke our hearts, and who refused to go over the middle long before Pinky "lost it in the lights." This one's for Buddy's Boys " "the Greatest D ever assembled" Clyde, Seth, 'Dre Waters, Wes Hopkins, Byron Evans, Mike Pitts, Izel "Toast" Jenkins, Mike Golic,Eric Allen, Ben Smith, and especially 1, 2, 3 J.B. #99. Bring it Home for Jerome. This one's for the late, great Minister of Defense, who won a Super Bowl in Green Bay, but deserved one in Philly. We know he's smiling down on Philly's faithful today. This one's for The Bounty Bowl, the Fog Bowl, The Body Bag Game, the 4th and inches That Stole Christmas, 4th & 26th and all the other classics over the years. This one's for Arkansas Fred Barnett and Calvin Williams, Chris T. Jones,Freddie Solomon, and Irving Fryar. It ain't, however, for James Thrash, Charles Johnson or Torrance Small. Sorry boys. This one's for Mike Mamula and his half-a-sack, Mark Mcmillan and all 5 foot 9 of him, Richie the K and his laminated sheet, the Doug Pederson Era,and Tommy Hutton who bobbled the snap on Monday Night in Dallas. This one's for Willie T, and Mike Zordich, two guys who could've played for Jim Johnson's defense any day. This one's for Guy McIntyre, only because he is forever Lou Tilly's "Guy in the Room." This one's for Stan Walters and Merrill, who proclaimed it Groundhog Day in December because "They give it to Smith and they stopped him AGAIN!!!" This one's for, Tony Bruno, Tom Brookshire, G Cobb, The Cuz, Big Daddy Graham, Angelo, Arson Arnie and the rest of the Dirty 30 who always brightened the Monday morning drive because you knew someone was out there who shared your pain. And it's even for Wolfman Eskin, and his "Stone Cold Mortal Locks", always there to infuriate you on the ride home. This one's for Al Morganti, who created Wing Bowl and gave us something to talk about, care about and laugh about before all those Super Bowls the Eagles weren't in. This one's for Herm Edwards, who gave us "The Miracle at the Meadowlands." This one's for Vai Sikahema punching the goalposts and the ageless wisdom of B-Mitch. This one's for Bobby Hoying, who was Ben Roethlisberger before there was Ben Roethlisberger. This one's for "Who Framed" Roger Ruzek, Gary Anderson, and Chris Boniol, none of whom would stand a chance against David Akers in a street fight. This one's for Lester Holmes, Antoine Davis and all the other draft busts that we'd like to forget. This one's for Bobby T and Troy V, who left just a little too soon but paved the way for Lito and Sheldon. It's not for Al Harris, who's still committing pass interference somewhere in Green Bay. This one's for Damon Moore, who chased and finally caught Ron Dixon at the 4-yard line as the Giants tried, but failed, to pull an 80-yard hook and ladder to prevent us from winning the division for the first time in decades. This one's for Brandon Whiting, who went to San Francisco in exchange for some guy named Owens. This one's for Duce, who, thankfully, took the Championship jinx with him across the state to Pittsburgh. This one's for the endless chants of DALLAS SUCKS, DALLAS SUCKS!!! But lastly, most of all, this one is for all the Philly Phaithful of Eagles Nation who've invested their blood, sweat, cheers and tears into this team and never stopped believing that one day, some day, THIS DAY would arrive. How sweet it is!!! Now let's go beat the Pats in Jacksonville!

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 The best thing about the bitches in the media bitching about the Jacksonville weather is that up here in New England we've been living through a brutal winter, and I'm sure it can't be that much better in Philly, so the actual FANS of both teams would KILL for 40 degree weather, but the fucking spoiled prima donna bitches act like they've been shipped to Siberia. At least I know Belichick and the Pats will appreciate the "unfavorable" conditions.
