The OAO Ashlee Simpson Show Thread

Recommended Posts

I was about to point that out.

She's playing Massey Hall in Toronto in March- because they apparently have great acoustics. I guess they didn't think she could fill the ACC

She's an ugly, hook-nosed, no talent piece of shit. Her sister got all the looks, all the talent and all the attention, and rightfully so.

Ashlee reminds me of Sam the Eagle from the Muppets. I'm just waiting for her to scream "get off my lawn" after another bad performance.

Who the fuck told this bitch that she could sing? She sure as fuck wouldn't have made it to Hollywood if she was trying out for American Idol. Even Paula would've called her a jew-nosed hack.

I'm not going to bash anyone for liking her, but it certainly baffles me. She's not attractive in the least. Not to me anyway. Not even the glamour shots of her, like the Cosmo cover, make her attractive. She just looks like they've used a couple pounds of makeup and several hours of brush up work to hide that hideous face. As far as her singing goes, I don't even know how twelve-year old girls can listen to it. Shit, MTV has better trash.

At least she has some decent sized jugs...but her sister won that battle too.

Evidently not. I don't see you replying to a thread disscusing Jessica Simpson. I don't see a site, with 200,000+ signatures from people who 'hate' her as well as the millions who bought her CD. Who knows, Jessica Simpson may have more fans (although I doubt it) but there's no way in hell Jessica has more attention. I mean, there are so many people who talk about how much they hate her singing, and she's a talentless hack, etc...then why would you be listening? And if you use the excuse you've only heard her once or something...then you really have nothing to back up your arguement. Oh, as well as the arguement 'You can't get away from it' or something to that effect...it's really not that hard to change the channel.

Those 200,000+ people are doing nothing but giving her more publicity, if they could figure out how to just ignore her (since the seemingly hate her so much) who knows, maybe her fire would have died down by now. But theyre just keeping her in the spotlight longer.

Compare the ratings from Newlyweds to the ratings for The Ashlee Simpson Show. I bet you'll see a huge difference, and it won't be in Ashlee's favor. In fact, there were rumblings that she only got her show because the Simpson clan threatened to pull the plug on Newlyweds if they didn't. Just because Ashlee's had a couple of excruciatingly terrible performances lately to mke her a national joke doesn't make her more noticeable than her sister.

At least when Jessica pulls a publicity stunt, she doesn't ridicule her own product. She may not be able to tell the difference between chicken and tuna, but when she's singing, you can tell that she knows exactly what she's doing, and is extremely talented. Ashlee's only real job is singing, and she's famous just for being bad at it.

Being perceived as a public joke isn't a positive, no matter how you think about it. And having seen only SNL and the halftime appearance, I can say she sucks. I don't have to listen to any more of her 'singing' to form an opinion.

As to Jessica Simpson being more popular, I don't know if I've ever heard a song by her, but I didn't even know about Ashlee Simpson until I saw her on SNL.

Don't believe I said it was positive. But fact is, her being perceived as a 'public joke' is keeping her in...well, the public.

And having seen only SNL and the halftime appearance, I can say she sucks.

Maybe this is just me...but I don't believe you can. Maybe you can say she sucked. But to say sucks..from that...ummm sure. In the one instance of SNL, she was caught lip syncing, which has pretty much been explained. And even if you don't believe the explanation, one, the backup track she was singing to was her voice...so it doesn't matter really, and two, MANY singers do. So really not much difference, except for the fact she happened to look stupid while doing hers. And even some of her fans, as I believe I saw Matt say in the thread about the OB in music...she sucked. Hell..I like her music, and I'll say she deserved to be booed in that performance.

But then again, I've also heard her sing other times..where she was great. So that just leads me to the conclusion she's a good singer, but she's not always that great, or that she has bad days. But then again, what singers don't? In the same light as, what actors don't sometimes appear bad in their movie roles?

I know, I felt the same way at the time

Even worse was 1) the lyrics and 2) the video (which I somehow happened to catch one time, probably a co-worker watching MTV in the breakroom)

Pop acts have it so easy today anyway. We are in an era where pretty much any top 40 artist of any genre on radio merely has to "look the part" I don't care if you are rock, rap, pop, country. Most of these people don't write their own music, and if they happen to, it is 2 songs at the MOST per CD. On top of that, they don't compose their own music. Well rock bands do I suppose, but most hip-hop and pop acts have about 20-50 people working on an album to make it perfect for public consumption. And then there is the entire issue of, originality, creativity, innovativeness that has all but died over the course of the last ten years.

IMO, the ARTISTS(if they even deserve to be called that) of music are the ones writing and composing the music, the pop stars and such are just the pretty face thrown out to the public for approval.

You're an idiot.

Yea, I know ;) , doesn't make what I said wrong though. It's not like 'using studio trickery' is anything new. There are people who have done that at one time or another, but are still considered 'great singers'.

And my response to that is...so? Would you rather this 400 pound, pretty ugly dude, who can write poetry well (aka write great songs) be the one on the album cover, and at public appearences, etc. (Well, you might say yes, but yea..) we all know it's mainly about image. You must be marketable. And not necassarily all writers are that..so why not put someone else in front. This may be a bad example...but sort of like Geico. There's 100's/1000's I dunno, people working for/with that company. And yet really, all anyone ever remembers is the Gecko. Just like, there may be 20-50 guys helping 50 cent write his songs...but all anyone ever remembers, is, well 50. Just like..

I'm guessing that era you mention has been what...over the last 100+ years? It's not like the 90's, 80's, and 70's etc. were 'just' about music. (Although, I'll admit there were cases of people who it were)

So summed up, IMO, nothing's changed. So I don't see where there'd be complaining now.

Thank you for that. Music has been about image first for it seems like forever.

Great example in history .Look at Elvis Presley. Sure he could sing, but the reason he ever got really popular in the first place was due to his appeal to the ladies. if he didnt have the good looks and the dance moves he may have fallen flat.

note this is not a knock on Elvis, as he was a talented singer, and my mom would kill me if I said that lol

I would suggest to stop watching MTV (yknow the channel where they go, "music videos? what are those?")

You act like the choice out there is 400 lb gorilla OR Ashlee Simpson. I am sure there is about 1,000,000,000,000 choices between the two, and it is not an either/or situation. Hell Meat Loaf of all people was marketable....lol. The problem is that the general public, not excluding myself as well, does not demand excellence in entertainment, that is the problem. The reason crap like Ashlee Simpson thrives, is because people eat it up. Of course how hard is it to impress 12 year olds that you are a punk?

Then why are people hating on Ashlee Simpson (and others) so much? Or am I misreading that, and you are saying that you DO want excellence?

But if I am interpreting it correctly, you're not asking for excellence in entertainment. Well, Ashlee Simpson has proven she's not excellent. But it seems, those who are not fans, are saying that in order for her to be recognized as well...'actual talent' she needs to be. Which I don't believe is the case. She's not at the top of the scale. But you all, actually believe that she's at the bottom? Because I for one could think of a lot worse.

Ok, yea, I'll admit, bad analogy. But fact remains, everything needs a mascot. You say the pop stars are just faces thrown out there for public approval? Well..pretty much, yea, they are. I for one know a lot of people who write amazing songs (well amazing as a backyard band can be >_>) but I for one wouldn't want to see them on an album, or on television. And they can't sing for shit also. So what they do? They get the lead singer of the band, to sing the song they wrote. In this case, 'the pop star'. Always has been that way, probaly always will. Not every singer/band/artist has a writer or anything, but the greater percantage of people in the music business, at one time or another, have someone else write a song and they sing it. Hell...as mentioned in the thread, sometimes they sing songs that have already been sung by another.

Of course how hard is it to impress 12 year olds that you are a punk?

Meh...from what I've experienced, it's usually the 19-20 year old stoner crowd who claims they are 'punk'. And from what I saw actually seeing this show the other day...seems her fans are mostly like, highschool/middle little...(What's a word?)...Prima Donna? bitches. Far from punk.

ASHLEE SIMPSON STILL SINGIN' THE BLUES: mean girls send songbird over the edge

In the latest shocking incident marking her descent into Showbiz Hell, Ashlee Simpson ran sobbing from a Melrose Avenue boutique——devastated after a public hiss-and-dis ambush by a howling gang of vicious teens! Ashlee was already reeling from the agony of her lip-synching debacle on "Saturday Night Live," fans booing her at the Orange Bowl, the hate-mongering Web site www.stopashlee.com——and that creepy-daddy/manager who made America cringe with comments about Big Sis Jessica Simpson's Big Breasts, a la..."She's got double-D's! You just can't cover those suckers UP!" But amazingly, Li'l Sis Ashlee endured it all——until the scary Melrose encounter! Out shopping with two femme pals, she'd just entered Red Balls boutique when four late-teen girls spotted her, let out a whoop and ran inside! Ashlee grinned from ear-to-ear, figuring they were fans wanting autographs, then recoiled like she'd been slapped when Mean Girl #1 shrieked, "You're a FAKER!" Pale and speechless, she stood paralyzed as the leering gang howled insults——then turned and ran sobbing as Mean Girl #2 spit this mega-nasty in her face: "You have NO talent, Ashlee...and you're not as pretty as your sister!" The Witches of Melrose cackled as one of Ashlee's pals screamed, "Look what you've done...I hope you're happy now!" As they escorted the tear-streaked thrush back to her car, my earwitness heard Ashlee wail, "I don't know if I can take much more of this...it sucks...it REALLY SUCKS!" Welcome to The Jungle, little girl.

...Isn't the Enquirer a tabloid..?

But nonetheless, if true, that was pussy. ;) Who runs out crying after one comment? I would have just laid the verbal smackdown back on those bitches.

It's funny how I specified that my comments were nothing personal against you, but now all you talk about it how I "cry a lot" and supposedly kill teenage girls.

65 posts and you're already worthy of being ignored.
