Guest PlatinumBoy Report post Posted January 30, 2005 While reading through the "Worst PPV" thread, I realized that the British Bulldog seems to have gone for the title on quite a few PPVs. Is there anyone else in WWE history who has had more PPV World title matches and never came away with the gold? In his WWE career Booker might be close, but I can't think of anyone else who has had more chances and never won.

Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Ted Dibiase only challenged for the World Title once on a WWF PPV (Wrestlemania IV), and technically he wasn't facing the Champion, so that cancels it out.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Bulldog challenged at least 5 times off the top of my head (Bret once, HBK twice, Diesel once, and the 6 pack match in 99) For guys who challenged on PPV and never won I think Bulldog easily has it. I'm pretty sure Booker only challenged once, and RVD three times (triple threat w/ Angle/Austin, singles v. HHH and1st Elimination Chamber)?

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Booker had: Elimination Chamber Wrestlemania v. Bradshaw Aemageddon 4-way. I believe Davey does have the record. He challenged at: RR 92 IYH 4 IYH 5 Beware of Dog KOTR 96 Unforgiven 99 You can also count IYH 3 since Diesel's World Title was on the line.

Ah, okay. I was thinking him because the old 'best to never win the title' line came to mind.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Can someone confirm a rumor that seems to flounder around now and then: Was Bulldogs multiple Main Event push in the latter half of 1995 always planned, or was it to spite Lex Luger? True or Bullshit?
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 I don't know, I kind of doubt it was to spite Luger, it's possible but I see more reason based on Bulldog's own merit, he was a great opponent for guys like Bret and Michaels. I always just figured it was a case of him being the best available heel for the job (pun intended). I mean, what other credible heels were around at that time? I think Sid was out at that point and Yoko couldn't hold up physically. It was really just Owen or Davey, and Davey obviously got the edge due to his size and strength, which we all know Vince was a mark for, plus I don't think Owen drew that hot in 94. Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Yeah, I was thinking that. Mabel bombed (that's putting it nicely), and Diesel had beaten Sid enough times at House Shows and sent him to the midcard at the 2nd IYH, so that leaves... no one. Freshly turned Bulldog made sense, but too bad his first big main event was that match with Diesel.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Booker T challenged for the (WWE) World Heavyweight Title at Survivor Series 2002 and WrestleMania 2003. He challenged for the WWE Title at Survivor Series 2004 and Armageddon 2004. No dice.
Guest BDC Report post Posted January 30, 2005 What about Jericho? Not even close?
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Jerichos won 5 PPV World Title Matches. No Mercy 2001 vs. the Rock 2 Matches at Vengeance 2001 (taking the spot of Armageddon name) Royal Rumble vs. The Rock No Way Out vs. Steve Austin I think that qualifies as good, although I think all of them had screwy finishes (especially the last one) Jericho, however, has the worst record ever vs. Triple H (1-59698 or something). tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2005 What about Chris Benoit? How many title shots did he get at a PPV Main event before winning it at Wrestlemania XX?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2005 The question as I recall is who had the most PPV shots, and NEVER won the title. That disqualifies guys like Sid, Benoit and Jericho. Also Lex Luger, who seemingly had a million shots at Flair in his day.

True or Bullshit? I doubt it. The Diesel-Bulldog feud started before Luger left the WWF. Had he stayed, he probably would have jobbed to Bulldog at the 9/95 In Your House.
