SuperBowl XXXIX Eagles vs. Pats

Recommended Posts

Poor poor management by Phili, it seemed like this was Pre-season or something out there.

While McNabb wasn't that great today. He got lucky in the second half when Harrison was the only person the Eagles did not want to pass. Some of the passes he did throw, were pathetic, and were lucky that some of the receivers were able to caught it.

Is there anything at all more painful than watching Donovan McNabb try to run a two-minute drill?  Did they ever, like, practice that?  Jesus Christ.

... on the other side, good call on Branch as MVP.  Good game, too, but Jesus, haven't the Eagles ever heard of clock management?

(didn't read thread, so if this has already been said... sorry)

Yeah that was what really pissed me off. They could've easily won that game. I'm sitting here screaming at my TV trying to get them to get out of the huddle and on the line of scrimmage. It just looked like they were dicking around out there.

I sure hope Andy Reid runs Donovan through this on the off-season.

They could have "easily" won?

Yeah, a 95-yard drive with no time left is easily doable.

Philly is just not a great team. Indy and Pitt would have both beaten them. The Jets would have had a good shot at beating them.

The better team won.

And it's hard to hate N. England. They simply go out and win incessantly.

Donovan is not a big game player. He never was. He never will be.

I think Philly's a great team, but New England was just a better team. McNabb had a bad game, but that's a tough, tough defense they faced. McNabb was pressured constantly, while it seemed like the Eagles' D NEVER got to Brady.

Not many defenses got to Brady at all the past couple years. It's one of the big untalked about keys of their success.

How many years have the Patriots constantly had to hear, "the Patriots offensive line is weak" and "the Patriots can't handle a moving quarterback"?

If anything, the Patriots kick-off team needs work....that's all I can figure out.

I remember in the first quarter when Dillon blocked the Blitz and Brady threw a 15-yarder for a first down.

Phili could do a six man rush, and could not penetrate.

And Mike, I think Phili fucked up when they had three minutes left on the clock. No hurry up huddles, no quick counts, or called time outs. Thats just bad coaching.

Though if Phili got the onside kick, then there would be a whole other discussion how great Andy Reid would be.

I think their special teams are their weakest link...and they aren't bad at that really either.

I'm really worried about Eugene Wilson and his clearly serious injury. Hopefully it won't make him miss time next year.

I think we're going to see more improvements to this team in the off-season as well. Most likely unloading Law and his cap hit. Phifer will be retiring, and they will most definitely focus on Defensive backs and Linebackers through the draft and free agency. It's almost scary to think they could still be a GREAT football team for a couple more years before retirements and free agency hurt them enough to knock them back.

I'm a homer I know, but this is an incredible time to be a fan of sports in this area.

Probably going to be said what's already been said, but the clock managment was horrible. Probably cost the Eagles a chance to tie the game, without any luck. Anytime you pretty much have to try an onside kick your relying on a lucky bounce to get the ball back.

Donovan faced a team that still had a defensive secondary that was still decimated by injuries.

Let's not forget it. Philly was basically healthy --- T.O showed no signs of problems --- while N.E still had tons of injuries.

And they STILL beat them.

Donovan is not a good QB in a big game. He is the antithesis of clutch.

They could have easily won had they managed the clock better because then they wouldn't have had to make a 95 yard drive with no time left.

They managed the clock poorly on the previous TD drive. Had they managed better they would have had more time to string together a drive.

And I still say the Eagles will be back next year. They have all the tools to do it and another year of experience.

I've said it time and time and time again. McNabb's arm strength and accuracy go down the shitter when he has to throw a lot, which they had to because (and this is another thing I've been saying which had been constantly been getting refuted) Westbrook is just not that good a pure running back. They had no ground game, though not many people did against New England. If the Steelers had a tough time of it, it would have been tough for anyone.

They won't win it all next year for the same reason they didn't win it this year.

Donovan McNabb is their starter.

If he gets injured for the season or traded away, they have a shot.

I love your inability to give credit to a New England team that played poorly early on and STILL beat them down.

24-21 is hardly a beatdown.

And McNabb is a good QB. He had a bad game. He has many other good ones to go with that.

Hell he can probably come back and throw for 300 and 3 TD's no INTs next year and you'd downplay him.

New England is a good team but Philly was in a position to win that game. As a matter of fact everyone New England has faced in The Super Bowl was in a position to beat them and soon(probably next year) that team will finally finish them off.

McNabb is the right man to run the ship in Philly.

Peyton Manning is the bigger antithesis of clutch.

Payton always has a shitty defense as an excuse.

But, yes, he's one damned unclutch QB.

Here is my take on this game; While it was close and everything...It just didn't have that "special" quality to it. The quality that XXIII had or XXXII.

It'll likely be the highest rated superbowl ever simply because it was two major markets and it was close all night.

Considering how poorly N.England played in the 1st half --- yes, it's actually pretty bad. Philly, if they had a clutch QB, would have owned the Pats.

But they didn't.

And McNabb is a good QB. He had a bad game. He has many other good ones to go with that.

It's just odd that his last game every season seems to be shitty, isn't it?

Heck, I love the Buffalo Bills --- I'm not about to claim that they played a good SB game after their first one.

New England is a good team but Philly was in a position to win that game. As a matter of fact everyone New England has faced in The Super Bowl was in a position to beat them and soon(probably next year) that team will finally finish them off.

That nobody can DO it speaks volumes.

Playing close and winning is still winning. Consistently.

Carolina last year had a better shot than Philly this year --- and the Pats were healthy then.

McNabb is the right man to run the ship in Philly.

I'll go with track record and say no.

Hell he can probably come back and throw for 300 and 3 TD's no INTs next year and you'd downplay him.

No, if he DOES it, I would applaud him.

He doesn't. He hasn't. When the game is on the line, he is one of the last guys I'd want throwing the ball.

Tennessee had a shitty defense? Im not saying, Im just asking. I dont recall way back to the days when Peyton collapsed at the sight of a Florida jersey like he does when he sees Tom Brady across the field.

Not a beatdown, but whenever you need an onside kick, which aquire alot luck it's the score isn't has close has it would appear.

True on that. I've never seen a QB who could look so good against most teams come up so lacking against one school every year.

I guess I might as well make my congratulatory post.

Congrats to KingPk, Failed Mascot, Cartman and all the Pats fans on here. Your team deserved this one.

It just makes me wonder though, will I ever see my team win a championship? I mean I've never seen one of my teams(Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers)win a title, but being the sadist I am, I know I'll be right back here next fall pushing my team again.

Anyways, congrats Pats fans.

Is there a connection with Florida and New England? besides always killing Peyton when it mattered but I mean each other those teams were designed differently and everything. Hell; Florida was back in Peyton's reign what Indy is today in the NFL. Explosive non-stop run the score offense.

I guess it's a Peyton thing; he needs his Kryptonite and thats Florida/New England/Pressure.

Hilarious thing on the sports news here in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area after the Super Bowl..

"And don't forget folks sitting at home, only two teams beat the New England Patriots this season, and one of them was YOUR MIAMI DOLPHINS!"

Heheh.
