SuperBowl XXXIX Eagles vs. Pats

Another unanswered question:

Why did Westbrook catch that ball on 1st and 10 on their own 5, with 20 seconds to go? He was in the middle of the field with a one-yard gain, for christ sakes.

Because the Eagles are dumb, dumb, dumb. Clock management and situational football (the onside kick was an embarrassment) ain't exactly their forte.

I'm wondering if maybe that the Eagles got so used to playing in decisive or blowout victories that when it came down to a close game like this, they lost their composure and looked completely confused?

They barely won one close game earlier this year, well two of them. Against the Browns and the Redskins.

It wasn't totally Westbrook; the Pats line and linebackers just eat up runs in the middle, you just can't bang it up the middle most times.

I'd still say that the AFC East is among the toughest in the league, since Buffalo's got a great defense and McGahee (and probably will have Losman at QB next year) and Miami's defense isn't bad themselves (need to rebuild that offense, though.)

I heard that they had to shut down some of the restrooms at Alltel because of plumbing problems. Didn't know the builders of Foxboro Stadium were still in business.

Do I sense another Saints fan? If so, doesn't it annoy you to see all these people bitching about "oh my beloved OU hasn't won a title in a few years and keeps getting back to the championship game but can't win" and "oh my eagles keep getting to the big games and can't win" or "oh my god the packers lost again, that's like four years in a row they've lost IN THE PLAYOFFS"??? I just want the Saints to MAKE the playoffs! As far as I'm concerned once they get there they are just playing with house money, they can lose that's fine, as long as I can get ONE post season game out of them. I mean really, if the Saints made it to the Super Bowl and lost by 30 points (very likely unfortunately) I'd throw another party the next weekend just to celebrate the fact that they were in the Super Bowl to begin with (no doubt due to some type of plague killing off every other NFC team except for the Rams, the only team we can consistently beat for some reason).

Just having my Saint' MAKE it to the Super Bowl would have me the happiest person in the world and don't even get me started if they WIN it.

Oh for the love of fuck, Mcnabb lost by 3 in a fucking superbowl and now he is never going to be a big game QB? Get the hell outta here. He threw the ball 51 times, 2 were picked off and one was picked off on a tip. If Bradys idiotic pass with his back to the goalline that should have been picked off had been, would he have been a horrible QB then?

I don't see how anyone can possibly agree with mike on anything about McNabb when he pretends that he hasn't done anything in his career, and list QB's that are better than him, yet he has done so much more than them.

At the end of the day, the Eagles lost by 3. people keep pretending they were stomped into the ground. And you can point to plenty of coaching decisions that caused them alot of problems.

McNabb is a top 3 QB in the league right now, but he had a bad game. He underthrew, overthrew, lobbed, and put muster on passes that shouldn't have had.

Terrell Owens is a great, great player, and Westbrook is underrated. So is Deion Branch. How many more big games in big games does he need to be considered a top flight reciever?

And I know I have the Yankees, but the Jets haven't made the Super Bowl since the guarantee. Feel pity for me~!

Well, it was mostly the ladies' rooms that were closed, but I think it was in Sheppard's section and when you gotta go, and the men's room is full of drunk Eagles fans......

The "Well considering our secondary was hurt and your offense is really good, it was more of a stomping than the score shows" sort of reminds me of "well if you consider that we're smarter and live in bigger cities, Kerry really won"

I agree with that. He simply had a horrible game and they still almost won. It's not like he's ever going to be considered the biggest choker QB ever(that title belongs to Peyton Manning.) Brady is still above him in my opinion due to having 3 championships and an unflappable demeanor, but McNabb is on the same level as Manning right now.

Did I say that? Did Bill Simmons say that? Did any rational Pats fan you've talked to say that? No, MIKE said it. Stop trying to lump all of us into that category.

Most of the sentiment here is that Reid was horribly outcoached by Belichick, and the Eagles running game forced McNabb to throw too much, which leads to more mistakes.

Which is why I really think they need to get themselves a power RB in the draft that can form a "Thunder and Lightning" duo with Westbrook. Reid does tend to give up on the running game too early if it's not working.

I dunno...McNabb has made it to a SuperBowl now while Peyton has just been left to say "Aw shucks". Right now I have to say that McNabb is closer to that number 2 spot of the best active NFL QBs than Manning is to number 1 now.

Are the Eagles going to even try for a RB in the first round? Vernand Morency from OSU may still be around at that time but I don't think he'll be that great of a pick at all.

McNabb got frustrated to often. You could see TO trying to calm him down at one point. I will say this about TO though he has the same calm demanor as Brady in terms of not being rattled. Even being injured TO still remained calm and didn't lose his swagger. He hasn't lost it with The Eagles this year has he?

Losing Romeo Crennel isn't going to be a major loss as some people are thinking, and the reason behind that is because of Eric Mangini(sp?). He started off being the ball boy for Belichik back for the Giants and has just stuck around since. He's the defensive backs coach right now but he's actually Belichik Jr. I seriously think he's being groomed to eventually become Bill's predecesor when Bill feels he's done all he wants to.

That would be awfully difficult.

McNabb was upset cause he knew at the end of the day, he was going to hear "McNabb choked in the Super Bowl" when the reality is he didn't.

He didn't even come CLOSE to choking. Donovan McNabb did everything he could but his arm was worn out and the playcalling from the sideline was making it worse.

In the two playoff games before this one, McNabb threw a COMBINED 53 passes.

And we'll see how good Culpepper is without Moss. Brady seems like he finally found his primetime receiver but before that he was doing it with a cast of "Who?" players.

It'd go Brady, McNabb, Pennington, Manning, Culpepper. I'm much more impressed by guys who were getting it done without big play receivers than I am guys like Manning and Culpepper. And McNabb got the Eagles to the NFC title game on his own for three seasons with no wide receiving core so he is definately #2.

The greatest thing about this had to be Deon Branch getting some recognition for that VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY underrated recieving core that the Pats have. All those years they were tearing it up with YAC yards on those Brady 2 yard dumps, the announcers were constantly saying "Brady is doing this with no recievers to work with" and it would piss me off, because those guys would be working their asses off making plays out of nothing and all you would hear was "great decision by brady to throw the screen play".

Congrats Deon. Now hopefylly people will pay attention to those guys and what they do.

I'm also starting to think that Reid should probably hand the playcalling duties over to Marty Morhinweg(assistant head coach) or Brad Childress(offensive coordinator) this summer. He tends to have these awful playcalling games at the worst times to have them. I'd personally go with Morhinweg since he's had expericene doing that(San Francisco offensive coordinator in the mid to late 90s.)

Its only Deion's second season you know. Also they were saying Brady was doing it with basically no running game behind him. Antwoin Smith is not a good running back.

I think the Pats have a great WR core with Branch, Givens, Bethel Johnson(who really needs to take that next step next year.), Patten, and Brown. Next season you'll see P.K. Sam added who I believe is going to be a really good slot reciever, and lets not forget the good TEs Brady has to work with as well.

Trust me though, they said he did it without a running game which was true up until this season.

After his stint with the Lions, I'd have a difficult time trusting Morninwheg with ANYTHING.

After the first sentence it actually turned into praise for the entire recieving core. I know Deon hasn't been there, but the rest of them have been being call mediocre for a while now and that really isn't the case.

They were talking about the lack or running game, true, but they were really on the recieving core also.

It's Branch's third season, actually. You're off today Frigid.

Anyway, as far as the top QBs in the league goes, I'd definitely put McNabb at #2, Manning and Culpepper would swap the 3 and 4 spots, depending on my mood, and Chad would be privileged enough to round out my list.

I blame it all on the illness I'm getting over. 3 different kids of flu meds will make your mind a little cloudy.

Since I know PK is listening to the Big Show I'd just like to say that story of the elderly woman getting puked on by a fellow Eagles fan was the worst thing I've heard in a long time.

Also, when Branch was injured during the season, David Givens came in and basically became Troy Brown WR V. 3.0(Troy was the go to guy in 2001 and 2002 with 101 and 97 catches, then it switched to Branch last year and Givens/Branch this season).
