Modern Man's Hustle

The Punisher

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here played The Punisher yet? I rented it for X-Box the other day and was stuck on the game for a couple of days. Absolutely great stuff, with a lot of cameos from other Marvel characters. It reminded me of Max Payne, only with much better graphics and a touch of Red Faction II. That may not make sense, but all around, a great game. Give it a rent and you'll see what I mean.

I bought it and completed it. It's ok.

It is just like Max Payne without the bullet time. You can still dive and roll though. The big difference is that if you walk up to a baddie you can do a quick kill, which are kind of like Tenchu's stealth kills but without the, you know, stealth. These look really cool. punisher will like stab them in the face, or shove a grenade down their mouth. There's tons of them. The other big gimmick is interogating people. You can grab baddies and then decide how to interogate them, like pointing your gun to their head, choking them or slaming their head into the ground. It sort of goes into a mini game where you have this little bar and you have to apply just the right amount of pressure. Too little pressure and they won't talk, too much and they'll die. They will tell you stuff like where items are or warn you of an upcoming ambush. There's also special interogations, which appear as a flashing icon on the floor. If you grab a baddie and walk him over to them they activate. They are all environmental interogations, like putting them in a saw, smashing their face through a window or hanging them over a railing.

The game is pretty fun, but it's unpolished and you're doing the same 30 seconds of gameplay over and over for 10 hours. The interogations are a lot of fun, but the censoring sucks. They're all in black and white and you never really see anything.

And the EA threads suck. We need more fighting game threads.

Right. When you grab an enemy, you can use them as a human shield as well, throw them through doors so that they get shot at instead of you, or, my personal favorite, throw them like a javelin at other enemies. You can throw over balconies and such too, and every kill is given points. The more points you get, the more upgrades for your weapons you can buy (grenade launchers, silencers, etc.) I took a good deal of pleasure in hiding behind a corner, waiting for an enemy to walk by, grabbing them, and throwing them about 15 stories to their doom.

Okay, sounds fun, but I'm content with my Mark of Kri I got for $5.99 for the moment. :) The stealth kills involve actual stealth, but there's plenty of action-packed battles as well. The control is a little simplistic, but that's not bad.

I'm looking forward to Rise of Kasai.

At the very least, it looks like they've actually been busting their BUTT to create an entertaining game with Punisher. Although I still might have more fun when I track down that Genesis version of the Capcom arcade game... :P

Batman Begins (game) looked promising from the articles I've read on it.

Whaddya know--a thread not related to EA or sports games?  About damn time.

As much as this folder has been about fighting games and such lately, it was nice to change pace a little.

There are plenty of those.

Just finished the Punisher game last night. A Max Payne wannabe, but still fun.

Usually I kill the informants anyway after interrogating them. Ooh, too violent. I blame my workload.

*wishing he could throw Heidenreich into the piranha pond*
