PRIDE 29

Recommended Posts

This card looks awesome, and I've only seen the main event, as I d/l a Japanese version of all the matches (this one is the only one that finished) and since I think the whole card looks stacked, I would have to say that this sleeper of a card will be great based on the main event alone.

Re: Main Event; I fucking loved it, but I'm probably in the minority. It wasn't a great match or anything, but it was pretty damn sweet. All I can say is holy shit, holy shit and holy motherfucking shit. Don't worry, you probably don't know what I'm talking about, as in not being able to guess and have to see the match to understand. But that was the most impressive performance I've seen in quite some time, my goodness.

I can't wait to watch the card, I dare to say it's more star-studded than PRIDE SHOCKWAVE II. I can't discuss exactly why I loved the main event until more see it. But needless to say, I was VERY pleased.

I haven't seen the whole card yet, hot damn. Jackson-Rua, Overreem-Little Nog, Erickson-Werdum all are great matchups, not to mention there are probably some fun squashes thrown in like only PRIDE can do.

EDIT: I think I hyped the Main too much, so I'll counterbalance by saying I watched it again and it sucked. Still, order the show.

There were some decent squashes and one of the closest Pride matches I have ever seen. Still, there was nothing on there that will make top ten lists at the end of the year.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the main event sucked. Once Coleman realized he couldn't take Mirko down he just gave up. Rampage/Ninja was so fuckin' close it could have gone either way. Igor looked great, very fast and crisp. Ditto Shogun. Werdum/Erikson was pretty unspectacular. Leko sucked as usual. Sperry impressed me and shut all the haters up. Damn I should have put money on him!

Just a hint, put your spoilers in the spoilers tags

text and then [spoiler/ with the bracket closing it. That way we can scroll over it without seeing!

And, oh, it seems everyone has already seen at least some of the show. Anyone care to share where, so we could preview it before deciding to order or not?

Sorry, I was under the impression that they still weren't working.

I got the show of a MMA torrent website, due to the site's policy I can't divulge the name of it on a public forum.

If you're the type of person who buys some and doesn't buy others; don't buy it. If you're like me and order all of them anyway than go ahead and order it.

I haven't watched NogII/Overeem yet, or Rampage/Ninja.

Cro Cop/Coleman wasn't very good. It would have been if I didn't know what was going to happen, I imagine. A freestyle wrestler doesn't work very well against Cro Cop. A Greco Roman or Judo guy would.

Shogun is a very bad man.

Good to see Igor fight again. I hope he gets a slot in the MW Tourny.

Mu Bae vs. Kharitonov was worth it for the face to face. The rest of the match shows how MMA has evolved and how you can't get away without having a strategy.

Did you watch the PPV? Did you read the spoliers?

Damn, dude, how impatient are you? I woke up Monday the day after the show and dl'ed all the fights and watched them that same day. You must have really been eager to see some of those fights.

Just watched it. Decent show with some fun knockouts and squashes but nothing too important. Skippable but fun if you're an MMA fan.

What a sickening example of politics the Rampage/Ninja decision was. The announcers were as speechless as I was. Rampage didn't even want the trophy, and Rua was in tears. They could have put him in the tournament too if they wanted to, but Rampage was just sluggish that fight and was basically controlled by Ninja the whole fight (I mean who else has Slammed Rampage before!?). Just ridiculous.

Rogerio/Overheem was kind of boring to me, but Im sure to those who like long technical fights, they'll find it interesting.

Cro Cop scored a decisive knockout over Coleman and showed some mad skills with the takedown defense. Just really good sprawl. Bring on Fedor!

Otherwise, Vovchanchyn's knockout was sick and he looked in ripped shape, Leko is still Pride's most hilarious jobber just getting pounded to death.

The Tamura/Machmud fight was hilarious. The dude gets kicked in the balls, collpases in pain, is out for like minutes, comes back out, keeps going back and forth between quitting and staying in and then finally his corner turns in the towel.

Kharitonov has to be next on the list for Fedor/Cro Cop. Great knockout on Choi Mu Bae. He's the real deal.

And Shogun was like a video game version of Wanderlei Silva jumping and stomping around like that. I want to see him again (and it looks like it will be vs. Rampage).

Rampage won that fight. It was close, but he definitely won it.

Please explain. Both announcers were going down the list of criterium and all of them went to Ninja. Effort to finish? Damage? Standing Combinations/Ground Control? Takedowns/Takedown Defense? Agressiveness? Pretty much all the criteria I'd give to Ninja except maybe the takedowns/takedown defense which goes to Jackson.

Neither fighter dealt out very much damage and effort to finish and aggressiveness are basically the same, and mean nothing if the damage dealt is minimal. Jackson had more takedowns, more takedown reversals and had better ground control.

I'm gonna rewatch this match and take notes and post them on here, hopefully tomorrow.
