I finally got the ECW DVD

And I gotta say, it is the best dvd that I've seen, produced by the WWE so far.

I was never an ECW fan, so I went into watching this with an open mind. This dvd did a great job in showing all the main players in ECW and showed how passionate these guys were for this company.

I especially liked how Heyman said Bischoff was full of "shit" when Bischoff never said that the WCW and the WWF never raided ECW for its talent.

I also liked that segment from, I think, Heat Wave 99 where the Dudley's got huge heat from Bubba getting on the fans. It was hysterical.

And the final thing; the Dreamer vs Raven feud. It was awesome. These guys showed pure hate against each other, and it was cool how both guys were from opposite ends of the spectrum, and how it took Dreamer so long to finally beat Raven. Just a great storyline.

Well, those were the main things that I enjoyed from the dvd. I'm missing alot of other things I enjoyed, and it would take forever to type it out. The matches were decent as well. I know that this dvd gets a huge thumbs-up from me, and that's coming from a guy who was never a fan of ECW.

I think what makes this DVD so good is that ECW only last around 9 years, so it's story can be told comprehensively in 3hrs, not to mention most of the main players are able to be interviewed. This allows for pretty much all the major points to be hit on, and all the key events to be talked about, allowing a full picture to be shown. If they tried to do something like this for WCW, it'd either be really bad or very disappointing, because to tell a complete account would have them needing to cover the 16+ years from 1985 to 2001, and it would take at least a 6 or 7 DVD set, not including extras, to cover all that in the detail needed to do it justice.

I just happened to catch the program as well. One minor squibble with the dvd is the flaming tables bit. I know for a fact that the Public Enemy started using them in their matches in 1995. It stopped for awhile after the fire chair incident.

IIRC, PE only tried the flaming tables gimmick once, and that was at the October 5th 1995 Arena show, when they took on The Gangsta's and Raven and Stevie Richards.

Unless you count the Rocco Rock vs. 2 Cold Scorpio match which was also on the card where the fire broke out. IIRC, Rocco tried the flaming table but missed, going through it himself en route to losing to Scorpio (and losing the tag team titles as a result due to match stipulations)

This was seen in clipped form on ECW television, and you only see the table just barely lit (as I recall, they were understandably editing out moments involving fire at this point)

Oh, just remembered...on the ECW weekly where they did show the Three Way Dance II title change, they showed ANOTHER flaming table moment, again involving Rocco and Scorpio from a house show in I think Chicago.

That counts as a second attempt then.

The other flaming table clip came from an ECW six-man match that was part of a AAA/IWC(?) card. It didn't get over, because that wasn't what the fans came for.

The only thing that bugged me is that it looked like no one told Eric that the DVD was going to be "shoot style" and his comical denial of raiding ECW talent kind of stuck out. It did allow Paul to get some of the funniest lines of the program off in response, but it was still kind of jarring to see everyone basically break character except for Bisch.

I also own this dvd and i am very pleased with it. This is mainly because i mark out when owning footage thats never been prevoiusly released on dvd such as the tazz vs triple h match from smackdown. However great this dvd maybe though i cannot see myself finding the time or interest to watch a three hour documentry such as this many times over.

Eric really was telling things as he truly saw them. Doesn't mean he's not deluding himself, but he was saying what he really thinks. It wouldn't be the first time he's denied a reality that was obvious to the rest of the world.

I don't think there was anything wrong with what he did, regardless of his delusions. "What he did" meaning the "raiding" of talent.

One man's raid is another's aquistition. It's just semantics. Eric offered several ECW guys more money to come to WCW. So what? Was it preditory? Maybe, but look at the guys Benoit (although he stopped working there when Heymen wouldn't get him a visa), Eddy, Malenko, Rey, Juvie, Psychosis, Raven, PE, Sandman, Bam Bam, Saturn, Douglas, Awesome, Storm, Sabu (but he had already been fired by Heymen), Candido (same thing as Sabu), Sid, Whipwreck, and Jericho.

Of those guys Rey, Juvie, Psycho, Raven, PE, Sandman, Bam Bam, Saturn, Douglas, Awesome, Storm, Sid, Candido, and Jericho went onto hold titles in WCW and greater fame.

Awesome and Raven were ECW champs whem they were signed or gave notice in Raven's case.

Vince took Tazz, Dudleyz, Scorpio, Rude, Funk, Douglas, Foley, Austin, Ron Simmons (although he didn't work for ECW much), and probably a few more that I can't remember. When he signed Tazz and the Dudleyz they were champs and he got them kicked off of TNN.

I think it's a wash. WCW took more guys but WWF swept in and took 3 of their four top guys (RVD being the 4th) at virually the same time (with in 2 months). Bishoff may have softened them up more but Vince went in for the kill with the Viacom deal.

I agree, what is wrong with a guy accepting a better offer elsewhere? Bischoff did nothing illegal. maybe if heyman would have paid his guys ontime, a lot of them wouldnt have left.

however the dvd is pretty funny. I especially loved them showing the promo on tnn where paul rips the network a new one

I thought it was missing one thing: Joel gertner

Joel:TNN's new catchphrase is 'We've got pop' its better than their old one

Joey:What was that?

Joel: TNN: We F*ck pigs
