Enigma 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2005 The Rock was quoted in the New York Daily News this week talking about his contract with WWE expiring. "I wasn't contacted or notified or anything like that," said Rock. "It wasn't until my own team had basically congratulated me - 'Oh my God, what a wonderful career you've had. Congratulations!' - that [i realized it]. I wish it would have went down a little bit differently, and that part I am sad about." The article goes on to say that WWE said the contract was mistakenly allowed to end. "Somebody dropped the ball, and everybody, including Vince, has apologized to The Rock." McMahon, the rep added, plans to fix the situation at the earliest opportunity. Rock has made it clear in many interviews since late December that he was hurt when WWE didn't even make an attempt to renew his contract. The lengths Rock has taken to make it clear he wants to remain part of the WWE family offsets any criticism of him in the past that he was trying to distance himself from his pro wrestling background. Rock had a perfect opportunity to write-off that part of his life and move on to being exclusively an actor. He's not wishing to stay in WWE for the money since movies are paying him immensely more than a WWE contract will. There is still a chance Rock could make an appearance at WrestleMania 21 given the way both sides are talking about wanting to fix the situation. credit: New York Daily News/PWTorch ==== I'm sure this is the first severe blemish on John Laurinaitis' track record as V.P. of Talent Relations since taking over the job since he is the one in charge of these matters. Guest Loss Report post Posted February 22, 2005 Doesn't help that 1Bob posts a headline today that reads "WWE Mistakenly Allowed Rock's Contract To Lapse", as if it's current news.

Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 22, 2005 What would The Rock's purpose at Mania be anyways? At mania time, Be Cool will already been out for 3 weeks and promotional work wouldn't be neccesary and he'd likely hit the circuit already anways and he wont be working. I would like to see a "Thank You" promo though but it'd be unneccesary.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2005 Piss on it. They don't need to take slots away from wrestlers so this guy can came back twice a year and put himself over.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 22, 2005 Once again, I must remind you that The Rock has done more for the boys in the back then Triple H ever has and likely ever will. The Rock is still humble and still treats them as equals and friends. The guys in the back for the most part don't hold hostility towards him because they know what he's doing is making their profession more credible to the mainstream. Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 22, 2005 That's correct @ Mania XIX. The last PPV he did as singles was putting over Goldberg at Backlash. He worked Mania last year obviously.

Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2005 Good news from my viewpoint, Rock NEEDS to be at Wrestlemania, I mean cmon the slogan is "Wrestlemania goes Hollywood", why wouldn't WWE's only big time movie star not show up?
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2005 for what its worth, Dave Meltzer implied in a wrestlingclassics message board posting a little while back on February 9, that it wasn't mistakenly expired, but done so because of theinfluence of certain political enemies of the rock. The Rock loves wrestling. That much I can tell you without any question. For a guy whose schedule is as insane as it is, you have no idea how much time he spent mentally thinking about and coming up with ideas for Wrestlemania this year--ideas that would both mean box office and be entertaining and it was of prime concern the matches wouldn't stink. It's not happening, but it's not by his choice. As he told me last month, "It was an oddly quiet ending, without any interaction or communication from the front office or the old man (Vince). Surprising to say the least, especially after eight years." The decision points to the rise of power of his political rival, and that's not Steve Austin. Guest Phenom Report post Posted February 23, 2005 I say don't resign him. He's dead weight unless he acctually wrestles. Or even appears once every two weeks.
