Update on Prime Time Special

Recommended Posts

TNA officials had meetings yesterday with the FOX Sports Network about a planned three hour live special to air on the Network next month. The meetings are slated to continue today.

While not definite, the talk going around is that the event would be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday 4/2, the night before WWE's Wrestlemania 21. TNA sources would only comment that conversations were ongoing, but nothing was definite yet.

This is a bold move, but if they hype it as a Clash of the Champions type deal, they could do alright. And casual wrestling fans will be more likely to flip past and be in the mood for wrestling, being WM weekend and all. I just hope we don't have to suffer through another BDSSP tie-in. Anyway, it's good to see they're serious about expanding from Orlando. With this and the talk of the June PPV being in Pittsburgh, it's looking up on that front. Good luck TNA!

TNA has to try something where they get paid attendance. They have done a good job in setting up that yes they deliver PPVs that are worth seeing live so now they have to expand the PPV locations.

But they still need to get FSN or some TV company to PAY them to be on the air and not the other way around.

And if they start charging admission.

And if they start charging admission......? I dont get what you are trying to say there.

I'm not sure if this is the right place/time to do a 3 hour primetime show. The day before Mania? In Vegas, the same city/night I'm assuming that UFC show is? There is too much stuff going on that weekend and it would just get lost in the shuffle.

They would be better off doing the show even the week after Mania when things are cooled down off that - Vegas I dont mind but I think it would be best to plan this more in advance. I'd actually rather them come back to Nashville instead than all of a sudden trying their hand at a market like Vegas. This date is only 5 weeks away if they do it the day before Mania and if done in May or even June, they would have plenty of time to build this up more and maybe even get paid attendance from it regardless of the location.

UFC PPV is April 16. The live Spike TV Ultimate Fighter special is April 9.

More info on this from this week's Observer.....

As thing stand right now, they have a two-hour prime time special on

FSN with a Best Damn Sports Show Period tie-in (UGH), similar to the prior

deals, scheduled for April. Jeff Jarrett is going to finally take the

risk with this one and move out of the "sure thing" studios in Orlando,

with the current plan to tape from The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas (7,000

seats, although they will obviously have to paper the building like

crazy).

-TNA is so concerned of catering to the FSN heiarchy that they do another deal to co-promote with BDSSP which is a bad idea, IMO. Unless FSN wont allow for something like this unless there is the tie-in, I think its a bad move to use that show with TNA as a backdrop again.

I think this has more to do with FSN wanting a BDSSP tie-in than TNA wanting it. BDSSP is pretty much the only show on FSN that regular fans will know and they want to get the word out about it every chance they can, so if TNA can draw some casual wrestling fans with the primetime special the same fans will be exposed to BDSSP. I really liked the other two joint shows they put on a while back, so this should be just as good. And I think having it WrestleMania weekend would be a really good idea, most wrestling fans will be in the mood for watching wrestling and if they deliver fans may come back if WrestleMania is less-than-satisfying. I still want to know why TNA hasn't tried any shows in North Carolina, we are right here and yet no independent promotion ever has shows around here.

Have them wrestle.

People that like TNA are going to watch anyway to support the special.

More casual/non-fans will watch to see Arnold and Salley mix it up. Not a tremendous amount, I mean, it IS Tom Arnold and John Salley, but it can't hurt.
