Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 there have been a number of men taking the mantle of Doink over the years. Who do you think made the best Doink in terms of how the character acted, reacted and wrestled. I think the best was the original Doink Maniac Matt Bourne. What about you? Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Matt Borne (or Bourne, but I like the other spelling), easily. It shouldn't even be an option. Once Matt Borne left, the Doink gimmick went to shit. He was just awesome as the evil clown, and the gimmick actually become one of the most over heels in 1993 (for WWF). Of course, by turning him face, it not only made him a pussy, but they also gave him DINK. By him, I mean Doink, not Borne.
Jericho2000Mark 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Is there really much of a choice anyway? Besides Borne, the only other guy I know that played Doink(besides the million Indy jobbers who have donned the suit) is Nick "Eugene" Dinsmore, when Benoit squashed him over a year ago. Ced 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Mabel of Men on a Mission: A big black dude in clown make-up. You can't mess with that. Yeah, I lie. It's Matt Bourne, no discussion necessary.
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Jericho donned the make up for one night when Doink was in the crowd pimping the gimmick Battlye Royal for WrestleMania X7.....For anyone who was more then a one night apperence you gotta give it to Borne....I mean c'mon do you know how many people are scared of clowns? That phobia is right up there with spiders & heights. Having a evil clown was just a stoke of genuis.

Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Not that I'm some kind of shrink, but why are people afraid of clowns? They just seem like harmless idiots, and that was my thoughts when I was 5.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Some people just don't like anyone that damn weird. A clown is dressed in garish clothes, bizarre makeup, are usually real loud and obnoxious, and specialize in often-cruel practical jokes. Perfect nightmare fuel for the average kid. Interesting side note: Matt Borne once told me that his real inspiration for Doink was Cesar Romero as the Joker on the old Batman TV show.

What would Doink be like if the guy playing him used Jack Nicholson's joker as the inspiration, maybe Doink could of lasted through the Attitude era?
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 I'm not even sure who the other guys were that played Doink from that period. I think Steve Lombardi was one of them, but I'm not sure on that either.
Fro 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 I'm not even sure who the other guys were that played Doink from that period. I think Steve Lombardi was one of them, but I'm not sure on that either. Steve Keirn (Skinner) was one, a guy named Ray Apollo was the 4th
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted February 25, 2005 IIRC, Keirn was filling in for Matt Bourne when he couldnt compete (as I noticed from results, they seemed to have traded off) during the spring of '93. That makes it... (the REAL Doinks, not 1 timers) Matt Bourne Steve Keirn Steve Lombardi Ray Apollo Some guy with a really long name I refuse to count Nick Dinsmore, since he only dressed up as Doink for a grand total of 5 minutes, and Jericho, who did a run in as Doink. Off topic but not really: Anyone know who played Doink at Wrestlemania X-Seven? (and Kim Chee for that matter... two gimmicks Steve Lombardi has played before)

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Don't forget, at what i think was the 1997 Slammy Awards, Doink was there, admist "Kill the Clown!" chants. Didn't Owen trip Doink, causing him to fall into Vader or someone?
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 What was up with those Kill The Clown chants anyways? Had people really gotten that tired of Doink cause at Wrestlemania X7s gimmick battle royal I remember people booing quite loudly when he was eliminated. Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted February 26, 2005 By 1996-97 he grew quite annoying (in a match w/ Waylon Mercy in Summer '95, chants of "Kill the Clown" can be heard too), and the room was filled with mianly the WWF wrestlers, so they probably hated it. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 Doink wasn't still with the company at the 97 Slammys...it was a one shot.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted February 26, 2005 Fine, by 1995 if it needs to be exact (for example: RD Reynolds mis-writes the actual years of his inductions half the time). I don't understand bringing him back for a 1 time deal at a show maybe 50 people watched though. Still, got the point home the Doink character grew tiresome and annoying.
