Kardo 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2005 Honky suggested the whole Warrior idea, according to him. He had the belt, that's what let him dictate that. He was on a handshake deal with McMahon too.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2005 So says Honky... The meeting about dropping the IC title only focused on Savage and McMahon basically stated they had nothing for Honky to do after he lost the title so Honky said he'd only drop it to McMahon or Hogan. But why was Honky in position to call the shots in the first place? Since when does holding the IC Title make you the captain of your fate? There was no reason for McMahon to let him dictate change in major booking plans, unless he was indeed on the verge of leaving the company or something like that. It's not like Honky could talk his way out of getting squashed by Warrior..... Honky was over enough that he probably had some level of pull. Anyone who is as over as he was has some say in how they're booked. Not to mention that the NWA would have loved to have stolen the WWF's IC Champion, so McMahon had that to think about. And Honky was set to jump to the NWA over this, so that probably helped Vince decide to change plans. Honky had no problems with putting Warrior over, because Vince asked Honky how he wanted to do it, and Honky felt that, as a veteran, that was the way to do it, rather than just dictate. Guest bushwickray Report post Posted March 4, 2005 I have the Honkey Tonk man shoot: Honky was at a meeting with Vince, Savage and Elizabeth. Vince told them the plan was to have Savage squash Honky and then Vince said point-blank to Honky "You'll never be heard from again." Honky knew this meant a huge loss of money and maybe even getting shitcanned. So he went home with the belt and didn't go back. Vince called Honkey at home and Honkey told Vince he'd only drop the I-C title to him or Hogan and if Vince didn't like it he'd go to the NWA on the next flight. He then told Vince "The I-C title is over my mantleplace and if you think your man enough to get it, be my guest. Come on down." Vince used this same line to Austin the night after WM 15 in regards to the Smoking Skull belt. Anyway Vince asked Honkey what ideas he had and Honkey presented Vince a millon ideas to put Savage over but still retain the belt. Vince agreed and Savage got the I-C belt and Honkey happily agreed to get squashed by Warrior at Summerslam 88. Pretty clever thinking by Honkey. It saved his job by at least 2 and half years.
