JoeDirt Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 This is stolen blatantly from a thread at DVDVR. This is the original post: "I was looking through some tapes the other day, and came along some Superstars, Challenge, Worldwide, and Pro episodes. And found one of my favourite Worldwides ever... Steiner Brothers vs Cactus & Abdullah Sting in a squash (vs Chuck Coates) Rude vs Bagwell Austin vs Steamboat That was just before Superbrawl 2, if I'm not mistaken. And during an era where tv was squash city, this was an unbelievable show. Which leads me to my question... So what are everyone's favourite episodes of the old syndicated shows? Any fed." So, go for it. What are some gems that we might have all forgotten about?
deancoles Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 WCW Worldwide in 92 had loads, It's been great watching them recently over here on Sky and you can see the improvement from 90-91. The Kip Frye era was good as the main events usually involved the Dangerous Alliance vs. Windham/Rhodes/Bagwell/Steamboat and once Bill Watts came along you'd get some good tag matches, great interviews with Jake and Cactus and fun 1 minute squashes with Vader,Barbarian and Gordy/Williams. January 26th had Steamboat/Zybszko, Eaton/Bagwell and Young Pistols vs. Z-Man and Pillman February 8th had another Steamboat/Zybszko and Vader/Sting(one of their 1st matches) March 7th had Windham/Austin,Rhodes/Smothers and Z-Man/Taylor Made Man Edit: check Classicwrestlingreports.com(only works on internet Explorer unfortunately) for some recaps of WCW Worldwide from 90-92
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 GWF... The Dark Patriot FINALLY defeats The Patriot, who was the unbeatable Hulk hogan of the company, by using the dastardly INK TO THE EYE, and wins the GWF North American Title. This would be shown in replays like every week for a year.
Betty Houle Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Most of mine aren't about match quality but about cool angles and the like. Savage injuring Steamboat from Superstars. The Islanders turning heel at the end of their match with the Can-Ams. Hulk Hogan-Bob Orton from the Memorial Day edition of Superstars (86?) Hulk Hogan-Rusty Brooks (beginning the first Hogan-Savage program). The episode of Superstars from the fall of 87 when Rude, Bundy, and Hercules take on Chris Basset, Toney Leone, and M.L. Something. Awesome commentary which I can still recite to this day.
LessonInMachismo Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Too bad WWE couldn't get the GWF library for 24/7. A lot of WWF/E superstars were former GWF stars. But was GWF syndicated? It was on cable... As for syndicated eps...Superstars always had gems aside from the jobber matches. Like the time Heenan and Patera faced off and they had to "censor" Bobby when he began cussing. The usually had a superstar vs. superstar ME, too, and there were some good matches.

Guest LooneyTune Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 The DARK Patriot? What creative talent... who came up with that, the same guy who came up with Duke Hogan and Sandy Savage? Just so I can remember... the DP was Doug Gilbert, right? Or is that another masked angle he did that didn't include dressing up as a horror film guy in Japan.
