Guest Salacious Crumb Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 So who do you believe is the future for New Japan? I believe that Tanahashi is the future for New Japan. My opinion right now is that he should beat Kojima sometime in the summer and win the G-1 Climax tournament. I don't know if he'll draw but I think he's the best chance for pulling New Japan out of the mess it's been in.
Guest DeathBecomesYou Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 I haven't seen that much as i'm still catching up on recent puro, but from what i've seen Tanahashi is so far ahead of Nakamura it's sad that Nakamura is pushed more.
Guest TheLastBoyscout Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Doing the job to Mutoh did nothing for him, and may have hurt his potential to draw.
SinToxic Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Tanahashi has earned much more respect from me and other fans than Nakamura has, who skipped the young lions road and started getting unbelievable wins and press coverage few months into his debut. This might have impressed some but for me it created doubt and then after seeing his matches didnt help me love the guy either. Obviously Nakamura has age advantage and management behind him but Tanahashi is a natural all rounder who excites me with his style almost always. At this point Tanahashi hasnt even beaten the top dogs of NJ, so going down to Muto was a logical move. Why would AJ put over a future ace of NJ before NJ did it themselves? Wrestling there is facing some harsh times and lack of new stars so giving the outside boy a rub might be considered useless at this point. It was great exposure for Tanahashi and I heard it was a farily equally fought match.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 I don't mind Nakamura that much but I think that's because he's only been wrestling for a couple of years. Though I do have some respect for him after the 2004 Dome Show and the injuries he suffered at the hand of Takayama. But Tanahashi just has more potential in my eyes. He carried Nakamura to a pretty good match at the 2005 Dome Show and his matches are generally solid or better. I think beating Kojima would do wonders for him.
Guest DeathBecomesYou Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Correct me if i'm wrong, but there isn't that much of an age difference between them anyway is there? I know Nakamura is only 24-ish, but Tanahashi wouldn't be older than his mid 20's would he?
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Tanahashi will turn 29 in November this year.
Guest DeathBecomesYou Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Okay thanks, I thought he was only 26-27 at the oldest.
Vyce Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Tanahashi. Just overall better than Nakamura. And lots more potential there for the future.
Sass Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Who should be: Tanahashi. The dude got stabbed and almost died. Yet he came back. That showed me he's got his heart in pro wrestling. He seems like he's willing to improve his in-ring work, which is always a plus in today's stale wrestling scene. I can see him as the future NJ ace opposite AJ's Kojima or Suwama down the road. Who will be: Nakamura. He's Inoki's golden boy and he just issued out a challenge to Kojima on a recent AJ show. Nak is the one who will get the uber push from NJ instead of Tanahashi unless something changes.
Mecha Mummy Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 I think I need to see more of both to judge. I've only seen two Shinsuke Nakamura matches, against Hiroyoshi Tenzan and against Koji Kanemoto, but I had to note that it was pretty much the same match both times. So right now, from my limited viewing experience, I'd say Tanahashi's better.
SinToxic Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 I just remembered Tanahashi acting surprised when he was reminded that most of his matches last year were won via cradle variations and him saying that he will be using more dragon suplexes and sleepers from then on. When I think of cradle bound wrestlers I think of Nishimura (mid-upper carder for life), nameless lower midcarders and rat boy. Not good at all. Nakamura almost from the start was given a finisher which was proclaimed to be very hard to escape from and that's one of many things Nakamura had going for him over Tanahashi in 03-04. At the same time Tanahashi was given G1 finals showdown where Nakamura was apart of some very bad matches. This year more than any will show how these two will take of. The whole TC/IWGP shtick must have been thought out to some extent.
