Guest Deadbolt Report post Posted March 14, 2005 I just got done reading this book, and I have to say, it is excellent. It's brilliantly written. On the surface, it shows what life in a mental institution is like, an overly organised routine, monotonous and ritualised. It goes deeper than that though, and IMO, was a shot at society as a whole. Ken Kesey uses the power of words to such a degree, you feel you are almost there on the ward of the institution yourself. It is phenominal. I recommend it to anyone who has never read it. I also have the film, starring Jack Nicholson, upstairs, but I haven't got round to watching it yet, I wanted to finish off the book first. So I'm not sure how the movie compares, but I'm guessing it won't be too bad if it's got ol' Jack in it. Has anyone else ever read it, or seen the film, and if so, what do you think of it? 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 The movie is more entertaining I'd say, but in a different way. Funnier I guess. You're right, the book is magnificent though.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 Done both, though a while back. The book has a hazy sadness about it (the "fog" permeates the mood of the story's telling as well as the plot), while the movie has a frantic energy, largely on account of Nicholson. Special K 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 A sad nobleness, nothing that blew my balls out of my shorts.
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Never read the book. The movie however is certinally one of my favorites.
Special K 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2005 Regarding Ken Kesey, 'Last Go 'Round' is the shit. Or at least it was when I was 14. I bet it still is.
