The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 So far, Jim Bunning, parents, and doctors have testified, and it looks like Selig and MLB are getting sufficiently owned. The discovery of loophole of the confidential fine (which can be up to $10,000 but even just $1) rather than public suspension has upset everyone quite a bit, it seems. Also, the prohibition of HGH with no way to test for it has riled people up. I fell asleep for part of it though sorry
tominator89 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Yeah, I've been watching it. I heard they're moving Canseco to a separate room.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 I turned it on for eight seconds, got bored, and changed it back to basketball. Crap like this should be on C-SPAN.
Celtic Guardian 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 I turned it on for eight seconds, got bored, and changed it back to basketball. Crap like this should be on C-SPAN. Well it is on one of those C-SPAN channels, the difference is that it's on a bunch of other channels too. I'm just wondering why the politicians are focusing on just famous baseball people if the concern is supposed to be over public health.

Guest Brian Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Some of this shit is pretty funny. Canseco is just using this as a great big platform, and Schilling low-balled him. Someone needs to do Dave Chapelle pleading the fizzifth.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 I just tuned in a couple minutes ago, McGwire and Sosa both came off like tools, McGwire kept repeating "I'm here to talk about positives, not about the past" over and over, and Sosa was like, "yeah, what Mark said"
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Its typically President W politics as he wants people to forget about his war for oil. Actually, it's more congressmen trying to make names for themselves as crusaders against steroids. I don't really see how the executive branch has anything to do with this whatsoever. Mole 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 That black guy from Maryland, I think it was Maryland, owned McGwire for a while there. Atleast Curt is doing the right thing. It's because he is a BoSox.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Its typically President W politics as he wants people to forget about his war for oil. Provided one ignores that Bush discussed this problem long before Congress decided to grandstand. It's Senators who want to make a name for themselves rather than actually accomplishing anything. I'd like to know why the fuck Congress is even doing this. Do we want Congress running baseball? -=Mike
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Just admit it bitch! Tiptoeing around whether or not he used the shit is more incriminating than just being a man and admitting it. God I hate McGwire
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted March 17, 2005 I'm surprised McGwire just hasn't decided to speak a foreign language and pretend he doesn't know english. He's really not helping here.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 17, 2005 How did Canseco get all high and mighty? He's got some fucking speeches going on like he knows something.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 McGwire's really helping his image by leaning back to consult with his lawyer every other question, and answering "I'm not here to talk about the past" the rest of the time. Yes, sir.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 McGuire is a douchebag. He should just admit what he did. What does he have to lose? He's a mega millionaire, he doesnt hold any records really, why should he give a rats ass if people know he cheated? Everyone knows he did it anyways. Would make him look like more of a man if he admits to it.
Bored 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 McGwire is not on trial here and he had no reason to admit to anything. The men who should be raked over the coals about this issue are Bud Selig and Donald Fehr not the players.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 So can Congress pretty much get baseball to do whatever they want it to do by way of dangling the antitrust exemption over their heads?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Am I the only one who doesn't give a damn about the steroids issue? Roids don't make you a better hitter, you still have to have the hand-eye coordination and the proper swing. If these guys want to risk their lives, let them be stupid and do it. Styles 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Ive been watching. This has been a circus. From listening to Canseco I wouldn't trust him if he told me the sky was blue. Mcguire is not helping his image with his "I'm retired, Im not talking about the past" deal. Sosa and Palmeiro are doing good. Saying very little but agreeing to help with the problem... Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Roids don't make you a better hitter, you still have to have the hand-eye coordination and the proper swing. You say that as if strength has nothing to do with hitting

Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Am I the only one who doesn't give a damn about the steroids issue? I can't say that I do either. It just seems like it will be a bunch of huffing and puffing, which, in the end, won't change much more than what has already been changed. What's the point? EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 These have been fun. Senator Davis compared the steroid issue to the Chicago Black Sox, noting that Joe Jackson was banned from the games for "allegations." Of course, he also accepted money from in exchange for throwing baseball games, but I guess that is all hearsay. Like I said before, the idea that CONGRESS is some kind of shining sun that accomplishes change is laughable.
mike546 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2005 I'm usually a sucker for this stuff, but its the same. I couldn't care less. Unless your god damn fucking retarded, I doubt anybody whos anywhere to being a famous MLB player is going to use roids. Can they actually start talking about you know, BASEBALL on ESPN? EDIT: I don't like Schilling, but god damn did he totally own Canseco. Hilarious.

Roids don't make you a better hitter, you still have to have the hand-eye coordination and the proper swing. If these guys want to risk their lives, let them be stupid and do it. I am so sick of hearing this argument. Take a .275/25/80 hitter for example. Say this player takes steroids, beefs up, and adds some power to his game. Now maybe once every ten games, one of those outfield flyballs ends up over the fence. You now have a .300/40/120 hitter. That kind of difference takes you from middle of the pack to elite in baseball. This isn't anything scientific, but it shows that steroids can change the complexion of the game. That of course, doesn't take into consideration that many PITCHERS doubtless used steroids as well. Steroid use fell last season, and slugging percentage and runs per game increased. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2005 Apparently we should blindly accept roids are a baseball miracle drug and anyone who takes them will immediately become a big league hitter who can jack 60 home runs a season. Ignoring the fact quite a few minor leaguers admitted to using roids after they were out of the game and not ONE of those guys made the majors. Power is only useful if you had the skill to hit the ball deep to begin with. You can have all the power in the world and still not be able to hit the ball out of the damn park. Power is only useful if you had the skill to hit the ball deep to begin with. You can have all the power in the world and still not be able to hit the ball out of the damn park. No shit. You say this as if it's some great discovery you made. It's COMMON FUCKING SENSE. Why harp on something that has never been in contention? Whoever made the .275/25 ----> .300/40 argument is spot on. It makes good hitters better than they were naturally. Why do we care about guys who juice but were never good enough to make it anyway? That doesn't cause any change in the complexion of the game. Guys who are already professional hitters getting super strength does.
