Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 As awesome as I think Sin City looks, I'm actually very afraid that it won't be #1. The way things work in this country, "Beauty Shop" which opens the same day, will open as number one, with Sin City in second place. Don't act like it can't happen. This IS the nation that inexplicably made "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" number one for a week.

This IS the nation that inexplicably made "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" number one for a week. Here's a thought. Maybe it was a good movie. Having seen it, I'd say it was. And seeing the reactions (laughter) of all the people in the packed theater with me, I'd say I wasn't the only one who thought that. You might not like it, but doesn't make it a bad movie. Hell...it seems like it's pretty much beating Be Cool, as that was a 'bomb' of sorts. And since when has there been a rule that black movies aren't supposed to be at No. 1? Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 I agree with you 100%, Exslade. The negative word-of-mouth already seems to be happening for The Ring 2, so I don't expect it to remain at #1. Next week: 1. Guess Who 2. Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous/The Ring 2 3. The Ring 2/Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous 4. Robots 5. The Pacifier I'm up in the air about the #2 spot. I think Miss Congeniality is a sequel that wasn't needed, but the first one grossed over $100 million, so it's no shock. I'll admit, I enjoyed the first one as a guilty pleasure. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 "Here's a thought. Maybe it was a good movie." Are you actually trying to make the argument that a movie's quality has jack shit to do with how well it actually does?
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 "Here's a thought. Maybe it was a good movie." Are you actually trying to make the argument that a movie's quality has jack shit to do with how well it actually does? Well, how about I word it like this. "Maybe it was a movie, that was good enough in quality that people wanted to see it" Better? And a movie's quality is all up to a matter of opinion anyways, so most of the time, yes. Usually, and I say 'usually' because a lot of people go and see a movie, and come out saying they hated it, but a lot of the time when people go and see a movie they do so because they think it's 'quality'. And it's usually those movies that gross a lot, that most people think are quality, although most movie buffs and the like hate a lot of them, and consider the public 'stupid'. It's the same deal with smarks, and marks opinions on wrestling.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 I don't buy the "negative word of mouth" about the Ring 2. I saw it Friday night, and while I felt it wasn't as nearly as good as the original, the overall crowd had just as much reaction in a positive way, as in jumping at the scary parts, screaming, hiding their eyes etc....as they did for the first one. It's getting negative word of mouth? Every board I've been to, the tag line for the Ring Two threats have been something like 'This movie is awesome!'. Haven't actually been in the threads because I might want to see it, so maybe they're just 'movie marks' or something, but I thought it was getting good reviews.. Must be your theatre. People are already pissed due to it not living up to the 'hype" of the first. I went to see Be Cool last night, and on the way out I heard quite a few people talking about how bad it was. It didn't get good reviews, BTW. But what the hell do reviews stand for these days. Also, this actually scared people? The first one was nowhere near scary.
