Why all the Orton hate?

Recommended Posts

Guest Ransome
I think Orton debuted in june of 2002 so that's 2 years and 9 month ago.

For the record, Orton actually debuted on Smackdown in April 2002.

Interesting sidenote: Randy Orton made his WWE onscreen debut being introduced to Stacy Kiebler, who then proceeded to talk about how well-endowed he was. Fitting, given their current fling.

If he's going to be out several months then I'll stop and say that Taker might as well win. Any heat that Orton would get for betaign Taker would be goen after several months off TV.

Well, I already seen these two wrestler each other live, at a Smackdown taping in May/June(can't remember the exact month, after Judgement Day 2002), in Calgary AB.

This was when Randy Orton was "the blue chipper", and Undertaker was "heel american bad ass". Undertaker was the WWE champion at the time, and Randy was very new. Undertaker did a very good job making Randy look good, and gave him alot of near falls. They seem to connect together, the crowd was really into the match and the chance of Orton upsetting Taker(then again we're in Calgary, the best crowd ever). So if the past indicates what will happen at Wrestlemania(espically with Randy Orton improving as wrestler since then), then the match at Mania should be a good one.

Yeah, but there's the matter of 'Taker all but giving up on having good matches over the course of the last 3 years. I can't even remember the last time I enjoyed a match with him in it. It might have been way back with RVD either in late 2001 or early 2002. Since then he's looked every bit of the broken down old timer hanging on to past glory, and I don't anticipate that changing next Sunday night.

I hate Orton because he does THIS *strikes Orton Pose* a lot.

[There it is, my favorite Randy Orton moment. And it's not even Randy Orton; it's Christian making fun of Randy Orton. That might illustrate the problem.]

I think with most people, it's more a case of resenting the push Orton has gotten (too much too soon for a kid who's still learning in many ways) rather than actually hating Orton himself. It's the general sense that he has neither "paid his dues" to earn his current spot, nor has he demonstrated any great charisma, or workrate, etc. etc., that would mark him as an obvious star candidate; nevertheless, he's being booked as though he were one. This animosity is of course amplified when us IWC fans think about other wrestlers who we believe DO have said charisma/etc or HAVE paid said dues and, thus, we think should have that spot instead of some guy who while not actually bad, isn't great [yet] either.

Or to put it simpler; I don't mind Orton. I just don't want to see him be World Champion or a World Championship contender.

It might also be tangental and/or related to the IWC's good old-fashioned HHHate (Orton was in Evolution, HHH's stable, so thus it *must* be Orton who gets the top face push when he starts going against it. And so Orton getting so much so soon... too much too soon, is in fact another reason to HHHate. For some. Maybe?)

Many of us have our theories on what is "wrong" with the WWE of today. Randy Orton's face run and the prospect of him being the Ender of UT's wrestlemania win streak make him a convienient poster boy for the symptoms (not the causes) of the WWE's current "illness."

Fortunately, he's still only 24, so there's still time for him to learn and for all this to change. And in that sense, maybe it's a blessing in disguise that he's gonna have shoulder surgery after Wrestlemania and be off TV for a while. Being out of sight and soon out of mind for a few months will give him and the WWE a chance to wipe the slate clean. And it'll give us a chance to stop being sick of him and and to start being sick of someone else. :P

I saw that match. Was bizarre. Heel Undertaker (yes, HEEL Undertaker) took the time to compliment the city and Randy Orton before the match, shook his hand and proceeded to play real nice. He never 'snapped' either, never started being a sadistic dickhead when Orton gave him problems. He just turned Respectful Face for one night, then went back to being Heel Badass next show. Very odd.
