Ridiculously loaded, and that's just night one. Even without the likes of Joe/Danielson/Gibson for night two it should be damn good too, especially if rumored matches like Super Dragon vs AJ Styles go down.

(Unofficial) PWG: All Star Weekend Preview by Paul Newberry and Jay Doring.

Hello and welcome to yet another (Unofficial) PWG preview! Yes, despite popular demand, this damn thing is back!

Now previewing such an aw-inspiring event is such a difficult task, that I had to do what any serious previewing master would do... delegate! Yes, helping me out with this preview once again will be PCN's own Jay Doring! (Bet he’s sorry he didn’t think of a cool fake name too) Who will be contributing his thoughts on several of the matches to help give you a different minded perspective on the upcoming card (and plus he's paying me in Dragon Gate tapes to let him! Score!)

On with the preview:

Once in a great while, we are privileged to experience an event so extraordinary, it becomes part of our shared heritage.

1969: Man walks on the moon.

1971: Man walks on the moon... again.

Then, for a long time, nothing happened...

That is until... April 1st 2005! When Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is set present the first night of it's biggest event of all time, ALL STAR WEEKEND! Where wrestling’s elite converge on Southern California for two crazy nights filled to brim with action, excitement, romance, intrigue, Gerard Depardieu, adventure, drama and the highest quality wrestling action known to man, woman or Rosie O'Donnell!

Now let’s (unofficially) run down the matches for this historic night!

Chris Hero vs. Chris Sabin

Last Time:

At "The Ernest P. Worrell Memorial" Chris Sabin made his debut in PWG, and wasted no time in making an impact (and surprising everyone with his huge enormous-monster pop) as he scored an impressive win over Ricky Reyes. Now at PWG’s All Star Weekend Night One, he'll be looking to capitalize on his victory, but to do that… he’ll have to get past Chris Hero…

Chris Hero has met with mixed success in his PWG tenure. In his debut, he and partner CM Punk were able to reach the semi-finals of The Tango and Cash Invitational (before falling to the eventual winners) After several months, Chris Hero returned as a singles competitor at “The Next Show” where he came up short in a stellar singles match against Super Dragon (perhaps distracted by his run in with Virgil prior to the event). Two months Hero returned to PWG and was able to score what could be the last clean victory over Austin Aries you’ll see in some time at PWG’s “Uncanny X-Mas” From there Hero moved on to major match with top PWG title contender American Dragon at “Card Subject to change, where he again was defeated in a close contest.

Now on April 1st at All Star Weekend, Chris Hero will have to fight not only for his right to his right to party, but also Chris Sabin if he hopes to maintain his spot in the PWG title rankings and work his way back up to a shot at Super Dragon’s PWG Title.

Past History They've worked together in numerous promotions, however I cannot find proof that they have ever had a match together (least not according to Chris Hero’s huge match logs)

PWG Records Chris Hero is 3-3 overall, 1-2 as a single; Chris Sabin is 1-0

My Thoughts: Let’s meet this year's Eastern Conferance All-stars!

Chris Hero, a long and agile big man who likes to attack the rim. Uses his size and long arms to score and rebound in the post. Like to block shots and is very aggressive on both ends of the floor. Has a good work ethic and has drastically improved his game from his junior to senior year. His basketball intelligence on both ends of the floor is simply phenomenal. Whatever you teach him, he is going to pick it up like a sponge and go with it, from traditional American, to “strong style” to that freaky ass European style…. Chris Hero can do it all and do it with ease.

Chris Sabin, a tremendous athlete who thrives in the open court. An awesome finisher on the break and will take the ball strong to the hoop. Is a fabulous rebounder and has become a very unselfish player. Has shown the ability to score in a plethora of ways, possesses an uncanny knack for putting the ball on the floor and driving past his defender.

Oops wrong All Star Weekend! Eh ok… I’ll let Jay handle this one…

.

Jay’s Thoughts: One of the most intriguing matches on the card, as the “man of 1,000 cravates (and countries)” takes on one of the symbols of TNA’s X-Division. Strangely, Chris Hero and Chris Sabin have never met 1-on-1 in the ring before, despite the fact that Sabin has popped up frequently in Hero’s home promotion, IWA-Mid South. Even more interesting, Hero said some less-than-complimentary things about Sabin in his Smart Mark Video shoot interview, and any heat that exists between the two men may bleed into the match.

The match up itself is odd, in terms of style. Hero is known mainly for his mat-based and striking work, and Sabin is almost entirely known for the “X-Division” style. However, I think this just may impress. Sabin by all reports had a great match with Ricky Reyes, a wrestler with a style similar to Hero’s, at the Ernest P. Worrell Memorial. Hero also had several of his best matches of 2004 in PWG (with Super Dragon and Austin Aries) and tends to work best against opponents with unorthodox styles (watch his excellent IWA matches with JC Bailey and Steve Stone as examples).

Other than the PWG championship match on this card, this one is easiest to predict. Sabin was brought in specifically to cram more “name talent” onto this card, and Hero is hopefully becoming a semi-regular and possibly become a PWG championship contender. Hero takes it, but it will be a heck of a ride on the way there.

Prediction: Chris wins it… err Chris Hero I should say.

International showdown

Jonny Storm vs. Petey Williams

Past History: Singles match on 8/22/04 for Japan’s Wrestle-Aid Project, Also Jonny Storm Vs. Petey Williams Vs. Chris Sabin Vs. SPUD- TWC UK Super show - 3-19-05

PWG Records: Jonny Storm is 0-3 overall, Petey Williams will be making his PWG debut

Shooter Jay's Thoughts: PWG has truly treated their fans to the best talent from all around the world with the first night of All Star Weekend, the first example being this contest between the hottest cruiserweights from England and Canada, respectively.

“The Wonderkid” Jonny Storm is possibly the most underrated performer anywhere in the world, Arguably the top star in Britain right now (along with Doug Williams), the multi-time FWA All-England champion became a US sensation overnight at CZW’s second “Best of the Best” tournament, putting on the promotion’s Match of the Year with his UK archrival “The Phoenix” Jody Fleisch. Storm quickly capitalized on his newfound US acclaim, making stops in XPW (where he won their European briefcase, erm, belt), IWA-MS (where he appeared in the 2003 Ted Petty Invitational) along with a return to the Combat Zone (most recently tagging with Alex Shelley at Cage of Death 6). Of course, Storm is no stranger to PWG fans either. He tagged with Excalibur against Super Dragon and American Dragon in the Tango and Cash Invitational, in what many fans called the best match of the tournament, and recently came up short in a brutal PWG title match against Super D at “Uncanny X-Mas.”

Storm is hungry to pick up his first victory in PWG and prove his worth to the SoCal fans, but he faces stiff competition in Petey Williams. A trainee of Scott D’Amore, Petey came out of nowhere and seemingly racked up dozens of championships overnight. The former TNA X-Division champion and IWA-Mid South Heavyweight champion, and the current EWR Heavyweight title holder, has laid waste to his opposition with his signature “Canadian Destroyer” flip piledriver, a move that has to be seen to be believed (or disbelieved, depending on who you ask.)

Storm and Williams have managed to cross paths twice on their various globetrotting adventures. Williams defeated Storm in a hotly contested tourney match for the PPW Junior Heavyweight title in Japan’s “Wrestle-Aid” promotion (which Petey went on to win) and faced off in a 4way at The Wrestling Channel’s “International Showdown” where Petey took out TNA rival Chris Sabin with the Canadian Destroyer.

Normally, I’d say Storm takes it here, since he’s the man with the prior PWG experience. However, when people see a Petey Williams match, they DEMAND the Canadian Destroyer, and in addition it’s the most protected finisher on the Indies – ALMOST NO ONE has been able to kick out of it. Petey HAS to do the move, and thus HAS to win the match. Petey not doing the move would be like Santa stopping by your house at Christmas, eating your cookies, drinking your milk but not leaving you any presents! Regardless of the outcome though, this match will feature tons of death-defying, jaw-dropping spots, and as the likely opener, will set the pace for a spectacular All-Star Weekend.

Prediction: Petey Williams

INTERNATIONAL SHOWDOWN… ah… again!

The Havana Pitbulls vs. Puma and Kendo Ka Shin

A bunch of stuff that happened:

At “Uncanny X-mas” The Pitbulls were robbed of a victory and The PWG Tag team titles after the Aerial Express interfered in their match with Arrogance. This heated issue spilled over to PWG’s “Card Subject to Change” as The Havana Pitbulls battled the Aerial Express for the chance to become the #1 contenders to the PWG Tag Team titles. After a heated brawl (which spanned the entire building!) the AXP were able to out fox the Pitbulls as Scorpio Sky used the ropes for leverage and stole a win (only the 2nd pin fall loss for the Pitbulls in PWG)

PUMA (currently undefeated in his last six PWG appearances) makes his first PWG appearance since November as he now joins up with the winner of the 1999 NJPW Best Of The Super Junior Tournament, the highly decorated Kendo Ka Shin to go against his friends and “Dangerous Players” stable-mates The Havana Pitbulls.

The Pitbulls need this win if they ever hope to receive another shot at the PWG Tag team titles, and PUMA needs this win to get out of the Pitbull’s shadow and truly establish himself on his own in PWG.

It all goes down, then back up... then down again, April 1st at ALL STAR WEEKEND! Be there!

Past History: Rocky Romero Vs. Kendo KaShin - AWS 3-19-05, Havana Pitbulls and PUMA of course have a ton of history together (I have the Polaroid’s to prove it)

PWG Records Ricky Reyes is 9-7 overall, Rocky Romero is 5-4 overall, 5-3 as a duo, PUMA is 13-3 Overall in PWG. (But the impressive thing is that PUMA is 11-1 as a single wrestler defeating Vito, Zokre/Phoenix Star (in a 3-way) Chuck Mercury, Black Tigers, Ricky Reyes, Tony Kozina, Brad Bradley, Josh Prohibition, Top Gun Talwar, UK Kid and Tony Stradlin… with the one loss coming to Robert Quance) Kendo Kashin of course will be making his PWG Debut.

Fun Fact: The second PWG match ever announced was Havana Pitbulls Vs. Pinoy Boy (PUMA) and Bobby "In The Navy" Quance. However due to scheduling conflicts, the match was canceled. This is probably the closest we’ll get to ever seeing that match, unless the Pitbulls and PUMA all join the Navy somehow and the Navy started it’s own wrestling promotion… which is possible I guess.

Jay's Thoughts: The other match on All-Star Weekend with international flava, this one really raised my eyebrows when I saw it announced. The Pitbulls, teaming together in PWG for the first time since “Card Subject to change” step into the Gorilla against their former Habana Bros. and Dangerous Players stablemate PUMA. This one is rife, and I mean, RIFE with tension. Of the two Pitbulls, Romero has gone onto more acclaim- it was ROMERO who appeared in last year’s NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tourney, it was ROMERO who won the CMLL Super Lightweight title and the Toryumon Young Dragon’s Cup in the same weekend, and It was ROMERO who got the ROH title shot against Samoa Joe at ROH “Gold.” What has Reyes done, other than headline a third-rate promotion in Covina, be the bitch in a recent Zero One-MAX tour, and struck out on a rather unspectacular PWG singles career? Reyes may in fact be jealous of Romero’s success and pissed off that his partner hung him out to dry in PWG…could we see the seeds planted for a Rottweilers breakup at All Star Weekend?

On the other hand, things aren’t exactly sunny on the other side of the ring. PUMA, who has appeared recently for New Japan in their Young Lion’s Cup tourney, is teaming with Kendo Ka Shin, a man who earned infamy on the puro scene by screwing over NJPW and jumping to All Japan while still the NJPW junior champ. Ka Shin then went on a tear in AJPW, embarking on a massive winning streak and holding the AJPW junior belt for 2 years (with one of his only losses coming at the hands of JIMMY RAVE~! – sorry, I had to work that in somewhere.) As a result, promotional pride may greatly hamper any cohesion in the two matches the two men may have. Both teams, just like pre-World War I Europe, are a powder keg ready to explode, and this match could easily degenerate into chaos.

Recent history doesn’t seem to indicate a favorite in this match either –PUMA holds a victory over Reyes in PWG, and his stellar record in PWG shows he is a clutch performer. However, Romero recently defeated the accomplished Ka Shin at the last AWS show, albeit via nefarious means. In any case, since the Pitbulls and Ka Shin both work extremely similar styles, and it’s always loads of fun to see PUMA get the shit beat out of him, I could easily see this match hitting the **** level and becoming a gem for those wacky tape geeks (me included) to immediately, spend the money we could be spending on cheap prostitutes, to see- and I’m sure that’s exactly what PWG wants (they don’t want us hogging the hookers, after all.)

Prediction Havana Pitbulls

TNA X-Division Championship Match

Christopher Daniels © vs. Alex Shelley

Backstory: For the first time ever, Alex Shelley will receive his shot at the TNA X-division crown, an opportunity TNA never actually granted him during his stay in that promotion. This will be Shelley’s chance to get back at the promotion that utilized him and held him back from superstardom (even cost him a shot to go to Japan because of some phantom TNA booking) Will Shelley succeed in getting back at the promotion who wronged him? Or will “The Fallen Angel” title reign live on? Find out April 1st! I pity the fool who miss this one!

Past History: First time meeting I believe

PWG Records Christopher Daniels is 6-7 overall and 5-4 in singles matches, Alex Shelley is 1-0 overall.

Jay's Thoughts: To paraphrase famous philosopher Will Smith, this is the battle between the old hotness and the new hotness. Christopher Daniels, seemingly since the age of the mighty tyrannosaurus, has been touted as the hottest unsigned prospect in professional wresting. His intriguing "Fallen Angel" character (and wacked-out Curry Man alter ego), combined with stellar promos and even better ringwork led many to wonder why, outside of a short stint in WCW, he's never hit the bigtime.

When ROH and TNA both came into existence in 2002, Christopher Daniels

at last got the chance to shine on a larger stage. Daniels carried Ring

of Honor's main angles for much of its first two years admirably, and

in TNA he was part of the coolest (well, the only cool) stable they

had, Triple X. Daniels kept producing classic after classic after

classic, and the fans couldn't get enough. Daniels arguably hit the

peak of his career last year, when he won the IWGP junior heavyweight

tag team titles with American Dragon.

Then, something most unexpected happened- Daniels' career as a headline

talent was derailed, by the very company that helped bring him to the

next level. TNA invoked a clause in his contract that allowed them to

control his outside bookings- specifically, they were telling him not

to work Ring of Honor anymore. Also, because they were running weekly

Impact! tapings (at the time) AND PPVs, apparently it meant no more

Japan either. Daniels all but disappeared from the Indy scene, outside

of sporadic appearances in PWG (where he's lost to Bobby Quance and

Tony Stradlin at recent events), and a couple of high-profile matches

in Canada's EWR. Sure, he was 3PW Heavyweight champion, but who really

gives a flying fuck about them? (Editors note: 3PW = BURNED!)

Luckily for Daniels-deprived indy fans, another savior was on the way,

a man appropriately named, "The Next" : Alex Shelley. Shelley first

gained some attention in IWA Mid-South, as a fiery babyface putting on

a series of classic, heated matches with Jimmy Jacobs. However, Shelley

didn't totally hit his stride until he turned heel in that feud, and

his true persona of a trash talking, egotistical jock came through. ROH

immediately took note and made him a centerpiece of their "Generation

NeXt" stable, essentially replacing Daniels' "Prophecy" as the headline

group. Soon, EVERY promotion came calling: TNA, CZW (where he won their

junior heavyweight title briefly), and finally PWG, where he debuted at

"All Nude Revue," with a win over El Generico.

Shelley, as he promised in ROH, succeeded in "taking the top spots"

-especially, as he hinted, the spot of Christopher Daniels. Daniels,

unable to get his hands on Shelley in the foreseeable future in ROH, is

no doubt dying to get his hands on "The Alienist" for the first time

ever in PWG, and prove that he's still better than everyone's new

golden boy.

However, an "X" factor is thrown into this match, literally. Daniels is

now the holder of the TNA X-Division championship, a belt he recently

won at their 'Destination X" PPV. Shelley, coincidentally, was recently

let go by that same company. As we all know, because of this the

possibility of a clean Shelley victory is remote. However, wouldn't it

be awesome if Shelley won it and stuck it good to Jeff Jarrett and co.?

Yes, yes it would, but it ain't happening. Daniels retains, and proves

he's still got his mojo.

Prediction: Christopher Daniels retains

6-man grudge match

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Aerial Express (Quicksilver & Scorpio Sky) & Frankie Kazarian vs. Arrogance (Chris Bosh, Scott Lost, & Joey Ryan</span>

The Saga Continues (read my last preview for the first part of the story):

At "The Ernest P. Worrell Memorial" Frankie Kazarian was determined to destroy the monster he’d created, and finally win back his fans by taking out Arrogance once and for all.

And Kazarian seemed to have picked the perfect partner to help him carry out his mission, as he brought back JOEY RYAN! a beloved PWG fan favorite with a huge score of his own to settle with Scott Lost.

Things appeared to be going Ryan and Kazarian’s way, until the closing minutes of the contest. As the referee was tending to the injured Scott Lost on the floor. Joey Ryan had grabbed a chair and was prepared to use it on Chris Bosh, and he’d have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you snoopin' kids!

Err actually Frankie Kazarian not wanting to have to rely on shortcuts anymore snatched the chair away from Ryan. Which angered Joey and an argument between the two ensued. Allowing Chris Bosh enough time to take the chair and bend it over Joey Ryan’s head with sickening precision! Leading to an easy pin fall on Joey. Once again Arrogance had escape with the titles…

Then a hush fell over the crowd, when Joey Ryan (who’d just returned from a 6 month absence after post concussion syndrome) didn’t get up. As PWG Officials and random guys rushed to his aid… the fans feared the worst…

Joey was able to make it back up to his feet with the help of Kazarian, and everything appeared to be fine, until Joey Ryan shocked the entire planet as he hit with a low blow out of nowhere!

Joey went on to proclaim that he’d been held back for too long by the fans and by people like Kazarian… trying to get him to “Do the right thing” (The Spike Lee movie I’m guessing) and where did that get him? Sitting on his couch for 6 months eating Cheetos (not even real cheetos, the GENERIC kind! Which didn’t at all sit well with the official Cheeto loving Frankie Kazarian) and listening to the fans also cost him his best friend, Scott Lost. Joey Ryan then swallowed his pride and asked Scott Lost for forgiveness.

And with that one of the most successful tandems in SoCal history had reunited, and with Chris Bosh added into the mix… PWG had just bared witness to the birth of a new triumvirate to contend with.

Joey Ryan, PWG’s conscience (you could argue that he was the heart and soul of the promotion) had that turned his back on the fans that had always believed in him (but fan support isn’t everything, I mean Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees dude!)

Now in order to combat this new force, Frankie Kazarian has recruited Arrogance’s top rivals, The Aerial Express (whom Arrogance twice cheated out of the tag titles in the past via their underhanded chicanery) to join him in his quest for retribution upon their common foes!

Now the match is made, April 1st 2005 at PWG’s All Star Weekend, Will Kazarian’s final mission in PWG prove successful? Or will Arrogance once again rule the day? Six men will enter… but only… umm six men will leave! BE THERE!

Past History numerous meetings... so numerous in fact, I won't even begin to list them all.

But here's 9 fun Facts! (cuz the man won't let me have 10!)

1.Frankie Kazarian defeated both Scott Lost and Joey Ryan in the Bad Ass Mother 3000 Tournament.

2. Joey Ryan holds singles victories over both members of the AXP in PWG

3. Joey Ryan and Chris Bosh have teamed up before in AWS

4. Mr. Belvedere never should have been canceled (that show had a good 5 more years left in it)

5. Chris Bosh and Quicksilver are former PWG Tag Team Champions (winning the belts from Joey Ryan and Scott Lost! Small world eh?)

6. Scott Lost toured Osaka Pro wrestling in Japan with Scorpio Sky last summer

Aerial Express, Chris Bosh, Joey Ryan and Scott Lost were apart of 10-man “Guerrilla Games” match

7. Chris Bosh and Quicksilver have been apart of the same match 11 times in PWG

8. When Pizza’s on a bagel you can have pizza anytime.

9. I lied, these facts weren't really "fun" so to speak

PWG Records Joey Ryan is overall 10-14 overall, Scott Lost is 16-8 overall, Chris Bosh is 11-9, Frankie Kazarian is 15-7-1, Quicksilver is 9-9, and Sky is 8-9. Combined the participants in this match have held

My Thoughts: Just like nobody ever expects the Spanish Inquisition, nobody ever expected Joey Ryan’s heel turn last show (I’ve heard that after the word of Ryan’s dastardly actions hit the streets, the suicide rate for “MySpace.com” rats everywhere had jumped by an astonishing 6%! Oh... the... humanity) I haven’t seen Joey Ryan play the heel that often, maybe only a few scattered instances (AWS, RevPro and a tad bit in EPIC) So it’ll be highly fascinating to see how Joey Ryan plays this one. Regardless, it is a welcomed sight to see Joey back on the active roster… even if he does eat generic cheetos (which taste like refried crap by the way, cheese is always the first thing to suffer when any food item is cheaply made. Trust me, I’ve seen the entire run of “Three’s Company” and Jack Tripper never lies… well except to Mr. Roper about his sexuality… but that’s a whole other story)

His partners:

Scott Lost and Chris Bosh have fast become my favorite team to watch. It’s amazing that a team with such a limited time teaming together could have the tag team continuity they’ve displayed (dig dem’ krazy backs breakers!) Bosh and Lost, have this bizarre chemistry, that’s difficult to explain and man does it ever work!

Chris Bosh in particular has really stepped up his game on a lot of levels as of late. Not only in ring, but also on the mic, with his insanely hilarious character, and with Scott Lost playing a perfect Bud Abbott to Bosh’s Lou Costello. They’ve fast become the highlight of every PWG show in which they appear! (Which is every freaking show!) You never know just what they are going to do or which minority group they will offend next! Perhaps it’ll be yours!

On the other side we have:

Frankie Kazarian: Now as we all know, Frankie recently signed a deal with a major Connecticut base wrestling promotion, and his days in PWG are numbered (literally numbered somehow) And I’m really going to miss seeing Frankie after he finally makes his way into the hallowed gates of “McMahon Land”. He’s been a cornerstone in PWG since day one, and his presence will be greatly missed.

If you are a WWE fan new to PWG, this could be last your chance to witness “The Future” Frankie Kazarian in his natural habitat before he moves into the realm of the 5-minute squash match. Hopefully Frankie gets a fitting send off here….

His partners:

For you WWE fans planning on attending this event, let me let you in on a little secret… first of all Vince McMahon sells poison milk to school children and second of all… real tag teams do exist! They are not just a myth created to sell toothpaste as you’ve been told! And you’ll experience one first hand after you experience The Aerial Express (Scorpio Sky and Quicksilver) Yes, you’d be hard pressed to find a more cohesive unit going today. A true “tag team” in every sense of the word. Expect to witness, amazing high-flying brilliance, and astonishing tandem offense with just a dash of comedic mastery thrown in for good measure! After you witness a real tag team operate, be prepared to say “Wow… I’ve never seen Rene Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki do that before!” (Though you can honestly say that after every match that isn’t horrible)

Ok, yeah I’m not a WWE fan… sue me.

ANYWAY as for the match itself, I noticed it is often getting lost in shuffle when people discuss All Star Weekend (which is usually limited to just OMG11!!! JAMIE NoblE! I need a wet nap) but really… this is a match to look out for.

Consider the experience amongst the competitors for one, For instance Arrogance and The AXP have been apart of two of the most entertaining tag matches in PWG’s history, and they always have some new tricks up their sleeves or possibly some other area in which tricks maybe kept! Also interesting to note, is that this will be the first teaming between the former “X-Foundation” in many months, and we all know how accomplished they were as a tag team.

Now throw Frankie Kazarian into mix (a major component in that amazing Pimpin’ In High Places 6-man) and you’ve got yourself quite the contest!

This one is my pick to be the sleeper match of the night! I guess what I'm really trying to say is that this match should be totally trippendicular to the max!!!!! Don’t miss it… k?

Prediction: Frankie Kazarian and The Aerial Express take this one, perhaps leading to Kazarian Vs. Ryan and AXP Vs. Arrogance on ASW Night 2.

American Dragon vs. James Gibson (WWE’s Jamie Noble)

Last Time: At "Card Subject to change" American Dragon recovered nicely from his defeat at the big Samoan hands of Samoa Joe the show before and was able to score a big victory over Chris Hero. This time American Dragon was set to reenter PWG to face a man he knows very well, Mel Gibson Star of “Man without a face”! This truly would be an ALL STAR WEEKEND with Mel now involved!

Unfortunately, we’ve since learned that Mel Gibson will NOT be in attendance, and is not, in fact not a trained professional wrestler. However as luck would have it, a suitable replacement Gibson just happened to be on stand by, which is none other than JAMES GIBSON (Better known as Jamie “By God” Noble!) A former WWE Cruiserweight champion! Who has been really coming into his own on the scene lately, via several highly impressive performances in promotions such as NJPW, ROH and FIP. Now at All Star Weekend, he will invade PWG for the first time…

The last time these two met in another promotion, they fought to a highly acclaimed 15- minute draw. Now, on April 1st at PWG’s ALL STAR WEEKEND these two warriors of the ring will do battle with NO time limits, Vince McMahon or Mel Gibson to hold them back. They are free to do what they do best and that’s produce the highest quality wrestling on the scene today! We could... scratch that we WILL be in for a modern today wrestling classic!

Past History Met a few times, once on WWE Velocity in January 2003, and again in NJPW-USA in December 2004 (which ended in an unsatisfying 15 minute draw)

PWG Records American Dragon is 9-3-1 overall, 5-2-1 as a single, Jamie San will be making his PWG Debut.

Shooter Jay's Thoughts: If there is one man who epitomizes the word “All Star” on this PWG card, it’s James Gibson. The former Jamie Noble will without a doubt be the biggest name ever to compete in a PWG ring, and the former WCW star and WWE cruiserweight champion will square off against New Japan superstar Bryan Danielson in a wrestling purist’s dream match. Sure, they’ve already faced off once for NJPW-USA, but that match was a mere 15-minute draw, and while it was praised in some circles, those same circles would praise American Dragon for his “tight psychology” if they witnessed him taking a shit. They also worked a match against each other on Velocity, but yo, that’s that wack WWE shite D00D. When these two stand across from the ring in the Guerrilla, they’ll have all the time in they world to do what they do do, hep cat.

If you’re undecided about going to the All Star Weekend shows after seeing the rest of the card, (and if you aren’t I question your very soul) THIS is the match that should sell you on it for good. First off, you get to see a big time SUPASTAH up close, and also happens to be one of the top junior heavyweights in the world. The second is, guess what, he’s wrestling one of the OTHER best juniors in the world, and his tag team partner in New Japan! This one will be covered in more snowflakes then Canada in January, and will be one of those captivating matches you’ll remember for years and years –so GO DAMN YOU!

As far as a prediction goes, American Dragon is the heavy favorite in my book. His PWG singles record is sterling (with his only singles losses at the hands of Frankie Kazarian and Samoa Joe) and this may be Jamie’s only appearance in PWG for the foreseeable future. A big win over a megastar like Noble would easily catapult AmDrag into PWG title contention and possibly improve his already rising standing in NJPW.

Prediction: American Dragon

Number One Contenders Match

AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe

Tiger Tiger Woods y’all:

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles first rose to prominence in the Georgia based NWA-Wildside, from there he got to the chance to work for WCW, where after several impressed performances in tag matches he was just starting to make a name for himself when that promotion was bought out on the WWF. After WCW he continued to apply his trade on the independent scene. Where in he quickly became a stand out wherever he roamed, from Georgia, Florida and even on the West Coast with an appearance in APW.

He was even offered a developmental contract by the World Wrestling Federation, and really established a reputation for himself when he rejected the WWF’s offer. By turning down Vince’s dirty $500 a week, AJ became a hero to Indy snobs and “elitist” jerks everywhere!

From there the sky was the limit for Styles! Soon he exploded into the wrestling stratosphere after joining the upstart NWA- Total Nonstop Action promotion. There he found nation wide exposure week after week. In no time, Styles had become the “face” of NWA-TNA, and was widely considered to be the top performer on the US Indy scene. In seemingly no time, AJ Styles had gone from Indy hero to a modern day wrestling legend.

So it was only natural that when Pro Wrestling Guerrilla was looking to make an impact on the scene, they selected AJ Styles to be a part of the Main Event on their inaugural show. His scheduled opposition? Samoa Joe!

Joe, like Styles had a quick rise to fame on the Independent scene, from his early days in Southern California with promotions such as UPW, to his true awakening with Zero-One in Japan. However Samoa Joe truly caught the eye of fans world wide with appearances for Philadelphia based “Ring of Honor” where after eye catching performances against the likes of Low-Ki, Homicide, American Dragon and others… he rose to prominence and captured ROH’s version of the World heavyweight title, and quickly became of the “face” of Ring of honor.

PWG’s AJ Styles Vs. Samoa Joe match took on a higher significance on June 11 2003, when AJ Styles captured the NWA World Heavyweight title after defeating Jeff Jarrett & Raven in a 3-Way.

This was extremely noteworthy for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla as now a showdown between NWA’s Champion and ROH’s Champion would take place at PWG’s debut event! The “underground” vs. the “mainstream” if you will. Just which man or which company would emerge with the superior champion? And where are my car keys?

However much like the age-old proverb “How many licks does it take to get to tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?” it appeared the world would never know, as regrettably Samoa Joe suffered an arm injury while successfully defending his ROH title against Paul London, and the match had to be called off.

AJ Styles went on to defeat Samoa Joe’s replacement Frankie Kazarian at PWG’s debut, and then come within inches of winning the PWG title in a 3-way dance in October 2003, and later returned to defeat Samoa Joe’s ally Rocky Romero at PWG’s One Year Anniversary (all named as SoCal matches of the month) and just last show where he received a god like ovation from the adoring PWG audience!

Samoa Joe finally entered PWG in November of 2003 and went on a major tear, scoring PWG victories over the likes of CM Punk, BJ Whitmer, B-Boy, Super Dragon, American Dragon, Frankie Kazarian, Joey Ryan and others

But one would always have to wonder… how the PWG landscape have differed if Samoa Joe had been able to face AJ Styles at The Debut Show? Would the reigning NWA Champion prevailed over the ROH titleholder? And what about scarecrow’s brain?

Now on April 1st 2005 at “All Star Weekend night one” it’s the match nearly two years in the making, as at long last these two icons of Indy wrestling will collide within the confines of the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (or FMLL) ring! It’s a battle for pride, it’s a battle for respect, and it’s a battle to at last determine just who is the most dominant force in the world of wrestling!

April 1st Hollywood CA… Be there and be square!

Past History: Samoa Joe Vs. AJ Styles Vs. Jay Briscoe Vs. Chris Sabin – ROH Beating the Odds 9/6/03, AJ Styles Vs. Samoa Joe – ROH “War of the wire” Samoa Joe Vs. AJ Styles Vs. American Dragon – IWA:MS TPI 2004 Finals.

PWG Records AJ Styles is 2-2 overall (2-0 in one on one matches) Samoa Joe is 8-2-1 as a single (loses by way of DQ and count out) neither man has ever been pinned in PWG.

My Thoughts: What is there to say? It’s Samoa Freaking Joe Versus AJ F’n Styles? Figure it out!

Prediction AJ Styles wins the number one contendership and moves on to face the PWG champion the next night… where I predict he will win the title.

PWG Championship Match

Super Dragon © vs. El Generico vs. "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen

Catching up with Depeche Mode:

At "The Ernest P. Worrell Memorial" Kevin Steen survived a fatal 4-way after he scored a pinfall on an unconscious El Generico. With this victory Steen was granted an opportunity the PWG Title later that night. When it came time for the match, Steen wasted no time in attacking Super Dragon from behind in the aisle way. Steen brought the fight to the Dragon, and had a surprising amount of fan support, as the crowd seemed to be equally split between the two competitors. And despite being involved in a 20 plus minute match earlier in the show, Steen gave Super Dragon his toughest challenge as champion to date, nearly coming away with the title on several occasions and even mocking him by using his own curb stomp against him (I would say “No one does that to Super Dragon” but really everyone does that to Super Dragon lately)

Kevin Steen finally looked to have finished off Dragon after spiking him with his patented and legally trademarked “Package Piledriver” but even that wasn’t enough to down the Dragon! “If that one didn’t work, I’ve got one that will” Steen proclaimed as he hoisted Dragon up for the PSYCHO DRIVER! But the wily Super Dragon escaped and gave Steen a message of his own which was “Prepare to meet Kali... IN HELL!” as he managed to spike Steen with his own PACKAGE PILEDRIVER to score the pinfall, just barely escaping with the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla title. But the question had to be asked, would Super Dragon have been able to defeat a fresh Kevin Steen? And just what is the deal with Women’s sports? Does anybody care?

But Super Dragon’s PWG title defending exploits aren’t over just yet, as he had the task of defending the PWG title in Germany (resisting a ton of jokes right there) against none other than El Generico! Where according to numerous Reuters reports the two engaged in quite the contest, which apparently saw Generico absorb a tremendous amount of punishment, but still be able to mount a comeback and plant Super Dragon with his trademark turnbuckle brainbuster! Which Dragon was somehow able to survive (I’m guessing by magic) and still get the victory retain after the Psycho Driver.

Now at all-star weekend, Super Dragon will have the ginormus task of facing both Kevin Steen and El Generico at once!

Does “Mr. Wrestling” have Super Dragon’s number? And if so will Super Dragon change his number to prevent unwanted phone calls from Mr. Steen?

Will El Generico get payback on Kevin Springsteen and Super Dragon? Will his trademark perseverance enable him to shock the world by coming away with an upset victory?

Or will Super Dragon make them both bow down… before ZOD!

Find out the answers to all these questions on April 1st as PWG presents ALL STAR WEEKEND NIGHT ONE!

Past History Super Dragon/Excalibur Vs. Kevin Steen/El Generico - CZW, Super Dragon Vs. Kevin Steen- PWG 3-12-05, Super Dragon Vs. El Generico - WXW Germany 3-19-05, Super Dragon/Stevie Douglas Vs. El Generico/Aviv Maayan - IPW-UK 3-20-05… I won’t even get into Steen and Generico’s vast history.

PWG Records Super Dragon is 23-6 overall, 15-2 as a single, El Generico is 1-3, 1-2 as a single, Kevin Steen is 1-4 overall, 1-3 as a single.

Thoughts: As I’ve mentioned last preview, I see a lot of potential in a Super Dragon Vs. El Generico match. I see it being a kin to one of those classic Super Dragon Vs. TARO matches. Because like TARO, El Generico is incredibly loved by the SoCal crowd and can pull off the gutsy underdog role as well as anyone possibly could (even Rick Moranis) From the sound of their recent encounters overseas, it appears they have already begin… what in my opinion will be an incredible series of matches.

Kevin Steen Vs. Super Dragon last show was a quite an experience to say the least. The crowd’s dueling "Super Dragon" "MR. Wrestling" chants gave that match a unique feeling, not often seen in Super Dragon matches. You really had the feeling as if Steen would defeat Dragon. This was undoubtedly Kevin Steen’s breakout match on the West Coast. He proved to be a very credible opponent for Dragon.

El Generico and Kevin Steen of course have been matched up in numerous promotions around the world and from what I’ve seen; they’ve fully impressed every time. Including

an excellent match at PWG’s “Free Admission (Just Kidding), which endeared them to the hard to please SoCal crowds. Generico is particular has really emerged as a huge cult favorite in PWG and Kevin Steen isn’t far behind in that department. Last show Steen even asked some guy for some water, then threw back in his face “saying you still suck!” Now that’s a heel!

Mix them all together and you’ve definitely have a hard hitting, fast paced contest that could very well end up stealing the whole show (and on a card that this, that’s a one BOLD ass statement, but it wouldn’t shock me)

Prediction Super Dragon retains, perhaps moving on to meet AJ Styles at ASW Night 2.

Also appearing:

- SBS Members Excalibur! (7-11) and Disco Machine! (6-12)

- Pro Wrestling Iron standout Hook Bomberry! (2-7)

- The Man, who stole the PWG Titles, melted them down and then injected them into his ass, the always-unpredictable Top Gun Talwar! (6-10)

- The high-flying LOS LUCHAS! Phoenix Star! (3-4) and Zokre! (2-5)

AND MORE (which usually means Ronin, The Ballard Brothers and/or Chuck Mercury. But you never tell just what PWG has in store for us on any given night… and I do mean ANY given night. The PWG 6 have been known to just run up to random people on the street and surprise them with huge unannounced wrestlers, I've seen it happen)

PLUS PLUS don't you dare forget PWG RETURNS the very next night for ALL STAR WEEKEND NIGHT TWO. With the matches to be announced at the end of Night 1, but they have stated that all titles will be on the line! Scheduled to appear will be: Super Dragon, AJ Styles, Chris Bosh, Christopher Daniels, Kevin Steen, Scott Lost, Chris Hero, Frankie Kazarian, Chris Sabin, Jonny Storm, El Generico, Disco Machine, Petey Williams, Excalibur, Hook Bomberry, Human Tornado, Joey Ryan, Phoenix Star, Puma, Quicksilver, Ricky Reyes, Scorpio Sky, Top Gun Talwar, Zokre, and more!

Don’t miss it! What is seeing some old guys and the star of “Stop or my mom will shoot” sitting around talking about what they did 40 years ago more important? Bah I say! You hear me? I said BAH! Come to PWG and see the legends of tomorrow doing what they do best!

Please visit: http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/allstar2005/ For Official information on ALL STAR WEEKEND and for advance ticket sales YES don't just settle for any seats when you now have a choice! You don't have to camp out overnight or wait on long lines. No more busy signals or disappointing seat selections. PWG offers an alternative to that large ticketing monopoly!

FINAL THOUGHTS: Wow, to say All Star Weekend night 1 looks great would be a major understatement. Every single announced match could conceivably be the Main Event! Plus think of the all of PWG could have in store for ASW Night two! We could see the first ever meeting between Super Dragon and AJ Styles! Perhaps Kevin Steen Vs. Chris Hero? Arrogance Vs. AXP maybe? This is defiantly one weekend of professional wrestling not to miss! Except that other show on Sunday, feel free to miss that one.

So yeah.... do I even have to tell you to attend this show? Nah, didn’t think so. If you miss this one, you’d be quite the fool… an April fool if you will. So do come out have some fun and support Indy wrestling.

Wow, great writeup guys.

I haven't had a chance to get any PWG shows since Secret of the Ooze. Which are the top shows since then to pick up?

Hate to give a cop out answer but really ALL of the shows since "Ooze" have been incredible, and are all "Must buys" IMO. Especially look into "Uncanny X-mas"
