Turn me into an Elvis fan

Recommended Posts

I've never ever seen the attraction quite frankly, but maybe that's because I've just heard the same damn songs over and over again. So, your duty is to put together an ultimate Elvis tracklist for me to use on a burned cd.

I won't do a whole list, but at the very least, make sure you include "That's All Right" and "Suspicious Minds'. His two best songs, as far as I'm concerned.

You're looking at Elvis all wrong, which is surprising, considering your other tastes. Axl Rose, Jim Morrison..any other ballsy superstar frontman you probably like, are all Rivers Cuomo compared to Elvis' aura. It's really not that important what he played, it was more how he presented it. A white guy playing music that already existed amongst even other white guys at the time (but still had its recent history in "black" music) is nothing special, but it is when every single woman in the nation was swooning over him. Elvis is just something some people "get" and some don't, I think.

Just grab up a random hits collection centered on his younger days, since that's what most people tend to like.

What you should do is watch a couple movies of his. Not really important which ones, the theme's the same, but it's a better presentation of his persona than his music, honestly.

Well, he has two distinct eras: his 50's work (where most of his classics are) and his 60's-70's work, post movie era (which has more rock and roll stuff). I could make you an album based on his 60's-70's stuff since that's what I prefer, but those songs aren't really what made Elvis a legend, they just sort of built on his legacy.
