lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Alex"Dirty" Sanchez, former Detroit Tigers centerfielder, now with the Devil Rays, is the first player to test positive for steroids under the new drug testing policy. This gives a new meaning to his nickname of Dirty among hardcore Tigers fans. Its pretty sad because earlier in the spring there was the feel good story of him reuniting with his family. First the guy gets released from the Tigers, now this. Dirty Sanchez
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 He hit two home runs last year. How many would he have hit if he wasn't on steroids?
lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 I know, I was trying to figure out how in the hell this guy was on steroids. He isn't very big, I've seen him in person, and he hit two more homeruns than I did. He says that this is some type of mistake, and hell I might give him the benefit of the doubt seeing as hes shown all the power of a high school JV team second baseman in his time with the Tigers
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Since the tests measure amounts of hormones in the bloodstream, there is an issue of false positives. You have to wonder how a player can take steroids and have such little power. Of course, he could've started this spring in an attempt to fix that.
Kismet 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Of all the players to be caught first....Sanchez? Man that is funny.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Suspended for 10 days... damn. "I'm going to fight it, because I've never taken steroids or anything like that."
Guest Brian Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Steroids have different effects for different people, and they don't naturally guarantee a better hitter.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 This is one of those times that Win Shares comes in handy. Alex Sanchez played 101 games for the 2003 Detroit Tigers, who finished 43-119. If we assume Sanchez was on the 'roids, we must asterik his records (I don't support this, but play along). Sanchez earned six win shares, which works out to 2 wins for the Tigers. We place asteriks on those two wins, and all the sudden the Tigers lose 121 games, the most in history.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 The funny thing is MLB hasn't said it was steroids. Various "sources" have claimed it was steroids. And if it was steroids, then the guy would have to be the stupidest moron on the planet to start taking them this year.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 But he did steal a ton of bases a couple years ago..so the steroids could have improved his speed. I guess the image of the only ones being on steroids are big hosses is now gone..

I guess the image of the only ones being on steroids are big hosses is now gone.. Derrick Turnbow tested positive for steroids under the Olympic program two years ago. I think alot of people have misconceptions about what players are likely to use steroids. You might be more likely to see steroid use among players who are straddling the line between MLB and the minors.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 Baseball can't say it was steroids, but that's the only banned substanced, by the league. I think Sanchez is dumb enough to have used steroids. Either didn't know they where steroids, or took them and thought by doing so, would become a great player, without having work at it.
