The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I wish the Cubs could've lured Bob Uecker two hours south down the Tri-State. Now there's a color man.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Both seem like nice guys, but Brenly's trying to be too much like Steve Stone in terms of joking around about food and stuff. Give credit to Burnitz. He had two strikes on him and was up there against a guy he'd never gotten a hit against. Considering his free-swinging ways and his luck against Capuano, it was a blessing he nudge the ball into left field. Too bad they couldn't add in another one or two after. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 The only people who seem to be going easy on "Len & Bren" are the people on the cubs.com message board, whose intelligence I cannot vouch for compared to other boards. They're probably people who wear homemade "In Dusty We Trusty" t-shirts, though.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 The only people who seem to be going easy on "Len & Bren" are the people on the cubs.com message board, whose intelligence I cannot vouch for compared to other boards. They're probably people who wear homemade "In Dusty We Trusty" t-shirts, though. Well they aren't bad and I can see myself getting used to them. But god, they have no energy. It's like they are calling the game from another state. Course I wasn't a huge fan of Chip. He was tolerable but I got tired of the little smug bastard. But Steve Stone was awesome and his book about Harry is pure gold.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Hi, I'm the Cubs pitching staff, I couldn't find the strike zone if I was held at gunpoint.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Hi, I'm the Cubs pitching staff, I couldn't find the strike zone if I was held at gunpoint. Hey, they got two outs! Oh great, a 3-2 count with the bases loaded...wonder how this turns out. Holy crap, a strike out.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Man, they sure are continuing the tradition of having a loooong top of the seventh inning, aren't they? I was shocked they got Lee. Typically, it'd be Cubs luck for the guy who's killed them the most to come up in such a tight situation. Then to get Jenkins on a full count. I was sure he was about to walk in the tying run. Now for the love of god, let's get some runs...
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Way too much nail-biting for a game against the Milwaukee Brewers, I gotta say.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 The ad board is really distracting and I hope everyone gets outraged and forces them to tear it down.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Way too much nail-biting for a game against the Milwaukee Brewers, I gotta say. I say one game, the entire line-up just bunts for the first three innings. You know, to see if maybe that'll work. And just so this doesn't become a Cubs thread, the Phillies lead the Cards 2-1 in the Bottom of the second.
geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Len and Brenly really blow. I hope Steve comes back from ESPN to rescue this horrible announce team.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 And the Cubs blow the lead in the ninth as Hawkins gives up a single to right to Spivey and then a double to Overbay. Hollandsworth bobbled the ball and Spivey costed on home. So, one save chance and one blown save for Hawkins.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 And with two outs and two strikes on the hitter. A LaTroy speciality. They really need to find a closer. It's obvious that Hawkins isn't ever going to fit in the role comfortably.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I think the last inning has proven that the Wrigley faithful has even less patience this season than last year. Booing guys already is pushing it, but it's frustrating, so I'm not surprised. Aramis sure has been striking out on the extreme outside pitches the last three games. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I think the last inning has proven that the Wrigley faithful has even less patience this season than last year. Booing guys already is pushing it, but it's frustrating, so I'm not surprised. Because it's getting stupid. It seems like every game the Cubs are winning and they just let it slip through their fingers in the dumbest ways possible. Today, a man couldn't even pick up a damn ball. I'm frustrated. I love the Cubs and I'm sure they will straighten it out, but it seems like the ninth inning has become a nightmare to Cubs fans.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 A little kid in the crowd just gave me a good laugh, yelling, "Hey Neifi, you stink!"
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Alrighty, the Cubs have to win after that amazing doubleplay by Lee, right? Let's hope so.
Guest Shadow Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I think Boston winning last year will end up putting more pressure on the cubs because now the fans are expecting and more demanding of a world series title now. It's one game and the cub fans seem more vocal and impatient already.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 If you listen the Cubs' announcers, you'd be under the impression that the only way to win a game is to have a walk-off homerun. I think I'll scream if I have to watch one more Cub pop out.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 This is torture. Bases loaded, two outs, two strikes and...a base hit. Tremendous. I guess it had to happen eventually. TWELVE walks and two hit batters by that immaculate Cubs pitching staff today. Good thing Dusty took Nomar out of the game, too.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 And the Cubs just roll over and die in the 12th. Four games in and everything that shot this team in the foot last year has reared its ugly head. No true closer. Can't score without the longball. Can't score runners on third with less than two outs. Can't win one-run games. Can't win extra-inning games. I understand that they haven't played a pushover team so far, but what a contrast between what we saw opening day and what we've seen since. The Brewers had almost 30 baserunners today. That is inexcusable, especially when 12 come from the walk. If this team's relying on the warm weather to get it going, they're in trouble. After all, when is the postseason played? Not exactly a warm time of year. I think the Hawkins experiment is over. He's there by default, but hopefully they can go out at the deadline and pick up something resembling a good closer. Hawkins is good in the set-up role and utterly lacking of confidence in the closer's spot. Not so much a heart-breaking loss today. My heart for Cubs baseball is still pretty numb from the meltdown last season. It's just more frustrating than anything. I'm not calling for drastic measures, but early in the going, it looks like nothing's changed since last season. I hope for the sanity of myself and all the Cubs faithful, this isn't the case. Guest Smues Report post Posted April 9, 2005 And go figure Atlanta's home opener is not on TBS (god I wish I had Turner South) and XM is fucking up and giving me the score/inning/outs but is not actually playing the game.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2005 Can someone explain this to me? Situation: Bottom of the eighth, one run lead, bases loaded, two outs, lefty up Who do you bring in to pitch a.) Billy Wagner or b.) "lefty specialist" Aaron Fultz? If you answered B, you must be Charlie Manuel so please explain that rational. And another thing, top of the ninth with a righty closer up. He is not willing to play the left-right matchup by pinch hitting Utley for Bell but he is willing to pinch hit Kenny Lofton for Jason Michaels who was having the best day at the plate of anyone? I am really not encouraged about Manuel so far this year.
mike546 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2005 Wright looks ugly in his first start. 4 innings, 8 hits, and 5 runs with runners on 2nd and 3rd right now.
mike546 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2005 Just like to point out that Karsay looks to be BACK to his 01-02 to form. It really does give the Yanks a great bullpen, with Sturtze, Karsay, Gordon, Quantril who hasn't even pitched yet, F-Rod and Stanton. Plus Mo. edit: Fucking jinxed him.
