Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Matt Sweeney & Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Superwolf These two are coming to do a music hall show in Charlottesville in a week and a half. I have no idea at all if they'd be worth seeing.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 11, 2005 Author Report Posted April 11, 2005 Just them alone? I've heard Oldham's kinda dull when playing solo (or with one other person), but he's definitely worth checking out if he has a full band in tow. I saw him June of last year; Sweeney was a part of his backing band. On stage, both he and Oldham took a very big hit off a joint this dude from the crowd passed up.

Masked Man of Mystery Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 God, I've only heard of two bands you people have mentioned and I work in the CD/DVD/video games section of a Best Buy. Where do you people find this stuff, and what genres are they?
Henry Spencer Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 1. The Decemberists - Picaresque 2. Bonnie "Prince" Billie & Matt Sweeney - Superwolf 3. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning 4. Low - The Great Destroyer 5. MIA - Arular I've heard the new Wedding Present and the LCD Soundsystem, but each only once, so I haven't decided whether I like them or not. The Wedding Present album was better on first listen, though.

TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 Best CD I've heard this year is "Be" by Common. A near-classic.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 The new Gorillaz cd is adequate. Better than it should be, but not great.
Guest Brian Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 Best CD I've heard this year is "Be" by Common. A near-classic. Did you get an advanced copy?
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Best CD I've heard this year is "Be" by Common. A near-classic. Did you get an advanced copy? I found it online and downloaded it. I didn't want to spoil it for myself but once I got into I couldn't stop. So yah, great album. Not 100% sure it's the full album though since it's only 11 tracks.
