The OaO NFL Draft 2005 Thread

Recommended Posts

No Blackstock on the first day! Someone's gonna get a steal there.

And Tyler, you'll come to love Miller very shortly. Promise. He'll make you pass to the tight end by sheer virtue of his AWESOMENESS and good ol' boy style.

I actually predicted that Denver would pick Clarett just to prove the theory that anyone can run behind their line. I saw it happening sometime around round 6 though. I can't believe they couldn't come up with a better pick for round 3.

I believe Blackstock went in round 3 (edit: Arizona at 95).

Also, FYI, the Eagles-Niners trade at the end was the Eagles 3rd rounder for the Niners 4th and 6th rounders (first pick in each round). The Eagles now have 10 picks tomorrow. It is going to be interesting to see what they do with them.

Well, this could be the final nail in Mike Shanahan's coffin.

...Well, we're seeing who the genius in Denver was. And it wasn't Shanahan...

That wacky GM combo of Sherman and Thompson decided to trade out of the first 100 picks for a 4th rounder tommorrow.

If I don't see a ridiculous amount of defense being drafted tommorrow, I'm going to burn down Mike Sherman's house... if Jim Bates wasn't going to do it first. I know they have help with Arturo Freeman signing at FS to replace Sharper, but what about the OLB position vacated by Navies, and are they going to keep up with that horrid d-line?

This is going to be exactly like Gunther Cunningham and the Chiefs last year, where they figured that keeping the same talent (or in our case, LOSING it on an already thin defense) with a different coach will produce better results. I mean, I know Slowik was a big difference for the Pack's defense falling out of the top 10 and having Bates will help a lot more, but they need replacements.

And the worst part as I see it, Favre will probably play about another 3-4 years.. How much are they going to sign Rodgers to? For how long? For all they know, by the time Favre retires, Rodgers' contract could have expired and they would have an even better prospect to draft. And now going into training camp, they've got 3 successors to the QB position battling it out, one which they've wasted 3 years of development on, another they wasted a trade on, and another they wasted a first round pick on. I understand them picking a KR, but with their 3rd pick with Darryl Blackstock still on the board? Or Justin Tuck? Even the one pick they made for the defense was questionable. Who the fuck is Nick Collins?

So who else besides the Pack and Steelers have had a terrible draft?

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, with the way this draft seems to have gone, if Sherman is THAT confident in his current group of players that he isn't looking to draft on defense.. they better not keep him around after this season if they don't make the playoffs. Or god forbid another first round home loss.

I think the Browns got a steal with Poole.

The problem with Poole last year wasn't his talent it was the fact that Bo Pelini's scheme sucked ass and it made the whole defense struggle.

Pelini emphasized more technique and OU was used to just physicality and domination.

Plus he had to pick up the slack for those shitty secondary players that were running around without Perkins.

Where is Bo now? My friend used to work with him at NE. Bo offered him a job at OU but he didn't take it last.

Did Bo really suck that bad at OU. Everyone here in NE wanted him to replace solich. Which i thought was crazy.

He's the defensive coordinator at LSU now.

Anways he did suck. OU's secondary with basically the same player MINUS Derrick Strait was dominant in 2004. The only game they slipped on was against KSU. Hell LSU didn't get a 1st down in the 2nd half of the Sugar Bowl.

Here comes big bad Bo into town and OU's secondary becomes the worst unit put on the field since Stoops took over. They just gave up huge play after huge play. While he was here everyone said it was the scheme. When he left everyone confirmed it was the scheme and that the players didn't like the emphasis on zone coverage and technique. They wanted to play physical man coverage.

Getting in a little late here. But I liked very much that the G-Men snagged the CB Webster from LSU at number 43 and not the DE Cody of Oklahoma (I think). Webster should hopefully step right in and replace the abysmal Will Allen, while Cody would have no shot at taking the place of Strahan or up-and-comer Osi Umenyura (Who they refused to give up for Eli last year, and rather gave them this year's first rounder) at the other end.

I still say Cody will be an NFL bust. He's to concerned with partying and having a good time. Plus he can't maintain his weight. I heard(don't know for sure) that he was supposed to come in at like 270 and he came into the combine weighing like 255. I'm sorry dude but I'm 2 inches shorter than you and you're more muscle than me and you weigh the same as me?

Anyways I'm glad Mark Bradley found a home. That's a quality pick right there. I think Bradley and Poole are good for the teams that got them. They'll both be good pro's. Clayton could possibly be awesome...well he probably will be.

I think Brown is good but I mean O-Lineman don't stand out like that.

Cody will be a bust.

And Tennessee getting Brandon Jones was a good deal for him b/c he's decent and could be a good 3rd reciever.

All in all I think that the Sooners are finding good homes and will contribute. I dunno if any of them will turn into All-Pros like Roy Williams though.

They said the same thing about this guy that came out of Southern Mississippi about 14 years ago..

The first month I went to USM, you wouldn't believe how many stories I heard that started "I saw Brett Farve last night. He was pissing on the bar, literally..."

Yeah but did Farve do coke and have extreme battles with mental depression?

No, but I think that Dimitrius Underwood at least had the serious depression problems.

They were so bad that Nick Saban was actively telling teams "He's got a screw loose", but the Vikings drafted him high anyway.

No, but he battled through a serious car accident that lost 30 inches of his intestines, an alcohol addiction, and a vicodin addiction.

Yeah but Farve is a fighter and he tried his damndest to get into the league. Cody didn't get into shape and performed badly for the scouts at the combine and pro-day.

A guy drop from sure-fire Top 10 to #53? There is a reason that the NFL knows that we don't.

I just don't think he has the winning attitude.

Oh and him passing out against Texas A&M? I gurantee it was drug related.

Dan Cody was the person playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live for Microsoft's "Game with Fame" promotion the other day. I'm guessing that's the goofy looking dude in your avatar, Dama? (no jokes about the goofy looking dude in my avatar, please)

No that's Rhett Bomar. Possible starting QB at OU this season.

Am I the only one a little surprised that David Greene went as low as he did? I think the guy broke Manning's record of career wins in the SEC at Georgia. He's a pretty big dude too. I think he could be a dark horse if he gets a chance in the pros.

I thought it was career wins in Div 1-A, but I could be wrong.

Edit - I may be thinking of the wrong guy, but I wonder if Reggie Brown, drafted by the Eagles, is mad that Carlos Rogers was taken by Washington, what with Carlos laying Reggie out last year.

KC drafted a guy named Craphonso Thorpe. That's awesome.

Denny Green just has to take McPherson in the 5th. They haven't drafted a QB yet, and Warner/McCown won't cut it.

Well, Adrian's a Saint now, so not much chance of that.

But, they still have Chris Rix, Jason White, and Timmy Chang to pick from!
