The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2005 The Decemberists are great. I keep meaning to ask a mod to change my name to 'Decemberist', but mods scare me So, with only Thrashists votes to come in, the current standing is thus; 1) Thrashist = 229 points 2) Brian = 228 points 3) Morrissey Is God = 210.5 points 4) Sterling Tit = 201 points 5) Eskimo = 199 points 6) Beast = 178.5 points So it's all still to play for as we anxiously await the final marks....... Oh, and the best thing I head that I hadn't heard before was probably the Springsteen song, which is kinda worrying, as I'm not supposed to like him in principle, but now feel i probably should check out a 'best of' or something. Guest Thrashist Report post Posted May 14, 2005 So if I abstain from voting, does that mean I win? I'll get to it shortly, hopefully by the end of the night. Sorry about the wait, I've had some things to take care of. Oh and I knew my lineup was weak. Like I said, transport isn't the most popular topic in metal so..mine were a stretch. I propose next topic be about either slaying dragons, beating up poseurs or devouring the blasphemic carcasses of dead goats whilst frolicking in the frostbitten womb of Satan. Beast 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2005 Wow, I'd be near the top, but I rated everyone else's so high. Actually kind of a relief, cause I don't wanna pick the next topic.

The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2005 All the scores are in, so here's the final leaderboard.... 1st - Brian = 267 points 2nd - MiG = 246.5 points 3rd - Sterling Tit = 244 points 4th - Mystery Eskimo = 233 points 5th - Thrashist = 229 points 6th - Beast = 218.5 points Brian is therefore announced as the inaugural Smart Marks Music Folder Grand Champion, and is thus enpowered to declare the topic of any forthcoming competition to defend his newly won crown. Of course, some might think it somewhat strange that the only mod taking part in the competition won, but... y'know, I'm sure it was just a coincidence... Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2005 (edited) Just to give a small amount of feedback, these were the songs I scored highest overall for each person (if anyone cares ) Morrissey - Decemberists, as mentioned Sterling - Despite strong competition from Busted, Radiohead's Killer Cars Beast - As a huge Beach Boys fan, Sloop John B Thrashist - the Scorpions! Brian - the Boss, Thunder Road. I didn't give any song zero marks, although Less Than Jake came close. Heh. - Oh, and congrats to Brian Edited May 14, 2005 by Mystery Eskimo
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2005 What the hell's wrong with Less Than Jake!? I gave Queen and Busted both 0's. My highest marks went to Ooberman (who I'd never heard anything by before), Beach Boys, Judas Priest (although it was a close one on Thrashist's to see who got more than a 1), Smiths and then REM and Springsteen tied for the highest mark on Brians. And what the hell's wrong with Less Than Jake!?
Carnival 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2005 I wish i could have taken part in this. I'm certain i would have got last. I will be in the next one. I'm sure some of my songs will get 0's. Pick the topic brian...let's get it started!!!
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2005 What the hell's wrong with Less Than Jake!? I'm not a fan...one of my friends used to be obsessed with them and it got seriously on my nerves. But then I like Busted. And saw them live ...I didnt pay for the ticket, I feel I should add...
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2005 You see... any opinion you have on music is immediatly invalidated by your Busted fandom. This rule also applies to Depeche Mode, Sting's solo work and McFly.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2005 I know its wrong, but I can't help it. I'd agree wholeheartedly on Sting, Depeche Mode and McFly.
Guest Brian Report post Posted May 14, 2005 Next topic: Numbers. Song with numbers in the title, years, whatever, and song having to do specifically with numerical functions. Should be pretty clear, relatively simple. It needs some photoshopping, but here's the winner's poster for this week. Do we have a limit, like you can't use the same song twice or on consecutive albums?

Guest Brian Report post Posted May 15, 2005 Shit. I thought this would be a great idea, this theme. And I got to the point where I had 30 individual songs by individual artists, and 24 that I just did not want to cut. I may just put together another list of alternates, for no scoring. I had some fucking hard choices. Do I cut the song that turned me on to Jazz, the song that made me say "Fuck Glenn Miller", or something else. I was only planning on doing three or four hip hop cuts at the most, and I ended up with six. I don't think what I chose is so much a winner; I chose things, in the end, that I really loved, and I want to give people some flavor. Here's the recommended playlist, though I didn't put it together as well as I did with the other one: Take Five (5:26) Dave Brubeck Quartet Chapter 13 (Rich Man Vs. Poor Man) (5:23) Common Astronomy (8th Light) (3:23) Black Star Three Little Birds (3:00) Bob Marley & the Wailers Mathematics (4:06) Mos Def The Magnificent Seven (5:33) The Clash Two Words (4:26) Kanye West Ft. Mos Def, Freeway & The Harlem Boys Choir Positively 4th Street (3:55) Bob Dylan The 4th Branch (5:18) Immortal Technique Two Little Hitlers (3:16) Elvis Costello & the Attractions One More Time (3:17) Joe Jackson 9 Elements (3:38) KRS-One 29 (4:19) Gin Blossoms For No One (2:01) The Beatles Once in a Lifetime (5:34) Talking Heads Brian - Numbers
Beast 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2005 Jeez, the first Beatle song I thought of was When I'm 64, which is a favorite of mine, but I like For No One a lot more, and I have it. It didn't even cross my mind until you posted it. Good one.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2005 I really struggled at this one. Hence the inclusion of MeatLoaf, among other ropey stuff Numbers Three is a magic number - Blind Melon 17 Times - Silver Sun 20% Amnesia - Elvis Costello Tell Me Ten Words - Idlewild Ten Years Asleep - Kingmaker 100,000 Fireflies - Magnetic Fields 2/3 Ain't Bad - Meatloaf 2 + 2 = 5 - Radiohead Fifteen Minutes Old - Snow Patrol Richard III - Supergrass U16 Girls - Travis Zero - Smashing Pumpkins Hundreds of Sparrows - Sparklehorse Star 69 - REM I would walk 500 miles - Proclaimers

Cheers anyway Brian I'll get my number album up sometime this afternoon, although it might not be till tomorrow as I had my last uni exam of the year this morning so will be drinking a stupidly large amount from some point this afternoon, depending on when my engineering mates exam finishes.
