Halloween Boxset...

I'm just curious if anyone has heard anything relating to a Halloween boxset? I'd really like to add the series to my collection, but I'm having a hard time justifying paying much for some of the movies in the middle of the series (particularly 3-6). I tried eBay and all I've found are either Asian imports or the DVDs sold individually.

I doubt we're ever see a complete boxset released in the US. I believe there's an rights issue, with several different companies owning rights.

 

You'll probably have better luck with Region 2(UK).

Yeah, I doubt we'll ever have one in R1, and if we do it'll be a long time.

 

If you simply have to have a box set of the films, go for the R2 set. It's not perfect, but it's pretty solid. A few of the films have special features that aren't on the R1 discs (like a commentary on Halloween 3 which is pretty interesting).

I wouldn't mind having it for the sake of my collection, but the last 3 (6-8) have were just rancid. And 3-5 were no gems...and 2 was only decient.

Halloween 1 and 2 were good, but 3 shouldn't even count. In fact, they should just remove it from the entire series. Also, I'm not sure which one it is, but the Halloween where Michael is after some little girl thats suppose to be the last a cousin to him or something was pretty good. H20 was better than the Grudge, but thats about it. The last one gets my praise for at least trying to do something different with the series even though in the end it's the same old, same old.

Part 3 is a guilty pleasure among many horror fans, including myself...most people don't like it because Myers isn't in it, but the Halloween series wasn't supposed to be based around him, the Halloween series was supposed to be a collection of different scary stories, but Myers became too famous and after part 3 they brought him back and just based the whole series around him.

Had they done the different horror tales like Carpenter orginally planned then yeah, it'd be cool. As it stands now it doesn't even fit with the whole series. I don't like 3 because it's retarted, not because it doesn't feature Myers. The entire mask thing was just ugh!

That doesn't take away from the, what many people considers a fact, that it's still an entertaining horror film. I know it doesn't fit in at all, but it's still a pretty cool movie. It took a while for me to even admit that also though.

Well if that was supposed to be the case, has I have heard myself before, I think its stupid that part 2 had Myers in it. They should of known that after two Halloween movies with Michael Myers that fans of the series would expect no less from the following sequals.

The deal with the first three Halloween films is this:

 

Halloween was always intended to be a stand-alone film with the ending being that Michael Myers getting away in the end.

 

The film however turned into a huge ass hit and Carpenter was flooded with offers to do a sequel. However neither he or star Jamie Lee Curtis wanted to do a sequel but ultimately agreed about four years after the fact. Halloween 2 did well at the box office so the studio wanted YET ANOTHER sequel from Carpenter/Cutis, who IIRC owned the sequel rights to Halloween at the time.

 

So after Jamie told them hell no (since she was trying to build a non-slasher movie career at the time) Carpenter came up with the idea of taking the movie franchise into the direction of being an anthology. The studio agreed with this but the movie bombed at the box office and Carpenter used it as an excuse to sever ties with the franchise and gave up his sequel rights as a result.

All the awesome death scenes in Part V of Ft13th more than make up for the fact that Jason was really Jason, and really, people don't pay to see slasher flicks for storylines, they want to see some jerkoff idiot get their neck ripped open with a rusty blade.
