So who bought Episode III?

Recommended Posts

Although I was not intending to do so, I walked into EB Games today for a brief look around and noticed that Episode III was in stock and available for purchase for PS2. After a few moments of contemplation, I caved and decided I'd give in to temptation.

Due to other commitments, I've only been able to play up to the first boss. However, from what I've played I have noticed the following:

- Voice acting is sub-par

- Graphics follow the path of the voice acting

- Fighting Jedi-style is really, really fun and enjoyable. Shredding droids was never this cool.

- The footage from the movie is played usually before each level to help set the scene and it blends in really well

- Levels are SHORT (from the first few that I've played), but the game has the signs of replayability with a cool co-op mode, duel mode and an skill building system where players can level-up their Anakin or Obi-Wan by ripping droids new outlets and earning points.

- You cannot choose who you play as, it alternates between Anakin and Obi-Wan, starting with Anakin.

- Plays much like the short and sweet Return of the King

- The first boss battle is pretty cool. It involves you and Obi-Wan fighting Count Dooku. Dooku handed me my sorry ass THREE times in a row before I had to bail and do other things, so the battles are definitely not too easy.

I plan on getting a little more into it tonight before going to bed. Has anyone else gone out of their way to pick it up? If I had to give a rating from the minimal amount of time I've spent playing (which shouldn't be taken into consideration when compared to someone else who has spent some real quality time with it), I'd say it's sitting around a 7.5/10 or so. Definite, plain, old fashioned, hack n' slash fun, although the graphics leave a lot to be desired.

Thats funny, the game was street dated for the 5th of May. I wonder if anyone reported that EB for selling the game a day eariler than suppose to.

I have the game in my GameFly GameQ, but I can only have 2 games out at a time. Whenever I send back Lego Star Wars and/or Jade Empire, I'll have Episode III and Republic Commando sent out.

Hmm... maybe I should've saved the $32 I spent on Lego Star Wars and waited the 3 weeks for this. Oh well, I'll just mooch the money out of someone. Sounds good.

Nah, Lego Star Wars is the shit. I'm a new SW fan who has recently watched Episode I and just watched the Episode II DVD today for the first time, and I marked out just from the opening video. I felt like I little kid on Christmas morning. I've played the first 4 levels and the game is incredibly fun and addicting, and overflowing with charm.

Some people say it's only worth a rental due to its brevity, but it seems like the type of game I could play through many times over.

Of course, Episode III: The Game looks really good as well.

It took me only 3 days to complete (I don't play hours on end), mainly because finding all of the studs was a pain in the ass, especially on the Episode III level on Kashyyyk (or whatever the spelling is), until I realized I forgot to break open the lamp-type things early in the stage.

Also the bonus level (I won't spoil it) is pretty awesome and a nice surprise.

I know it's brief, but as I said, I can see myself playing through the game multiple times. Plus, once you beat a level, you unlock "Free Play" which allows you to play through any level with any unlocked character.

I know what the bonus section is. It sounds awesome.

I just beat Darth Maul and finished Episode I. I fucking love this game.

Also, an idea- We should make this the thread to discuss all the new Star Wars games: Episode III, Lego, and Republic Commando.

Star Wars: Battlefront II looks pretty darn awesome too, and it will be on show at E3.

I went out and bought Lego Star Wars today and have played it for a bit this afternoon. I'm lukewarm towards it so far, but will definitely get into it a bit more tonight before passing final judgement. I'm hoping it's one of those things you gradually become more and more into, otherwise it's back to EB by the end of the week.

A friend and I started Ep. III at about 11 PM. By 4 AM we got to Anakin doing nasty things in the Jedi Temple. We jsut watched the opening cinematic with Serra before we decided we had had enough for the night. Fun game, although the lock on could be better. I hate aiming at a guy ahead of me 20 ft. away when there's a Destroyer right behind me shooting me in the back.

Nope this game only spans Episode III. Lego Star Wars spans Episodes I through III.

Game is great but too short. Beat it without codes in four 1/2 hours. The voice acting I didn't have a problem with because it's the same voice actors from the Clone Wars cartoons. And the Episode IV bonus duel is great.

Lego Star Wars spans the first 3 episode. Episode III is just Episode III.

actually, UYI, you'd be surprised how much I actually do rely on you guys when it comes to suggestions...we all pretty much have the same interests, for the most part, so I feel safe in trusting in your takes on things...

Lego Star Wars is definitely a "rent first" game unless you are a really big mark for Star Wars, and don't mind dropping $30-35 on it knowing it's limitations. However, the fact you can play as like 50 different characters is pretty awesome, and scenes like the Obi-Wan/Jango scene on Kamino, the Jedi Battle on Geonosis, Yoda and Chewbacca's level on Kashyyyk, and the final duel are pretty sweet. (to name a few)

Lots of replay material, if you ask me. Not the greatest game in the world, but no slouch either, and the Lego style look makes it really enjoyable thanks to the colorful scenes and no slow down.

The only problem is the game is a blue-disc, and ig your PS2 is old or worn out, it might not work.

I rented Lego Star Wars, and beat it in about two days. I was going back to get perfects in everything to unock the Bonus Level when I had to return it. Funny thing is- Episodes 1 and 2 in the game are actually BETTER than the movies they were based off of.

Lego Star Wars has grown on me incredibly. I was about set to return the thing after my brief initial run through, however actually sitting down today and spending some time with it has really paid off. Both games are a great compliment to the upcoming Episode III movie and will pretty much just make you love Star Wars even more.

4.5 out of 10!? Shit, I knew IGN has never had a hard on for most Star Wars games... but 4.5?!

Yeah, but it is from this Ivan Sulic guy, who is a total fucking idiot. Just a few days ago on the IGN Roundtable:

George Lucas looks like a walrus and his movie is going to suck because I read the book and it sucked! But, I suppose I can still dig the 20 minute Anakin versus Obi-Wan fight scene even if it will cost me 10 bones in movie tickets and 100 units of pride.

Reading this review and making a judgement on the game based from it is like having George Lucas decide for you whether or not you go and see Episode III.

Yes, this guy just made me completely void any comments he has on a game where he clearly is bias. That would be like me writing a review about an American Idol video game when I hate the show more than anything.

I'm gonna rent Lego Star Wars tonight. Tell ya what I think.

Question tho, do the Ep 3 levels of Lego Star Wars ruin the movie? I mean the little things that we don't expect, not like certain characters having to die or go in hiding, but scenes, settings, surprise characters, things of that nature that it'd be more fun to see on screen first.

Nah... I beat Lego yesterday, and there were virtually no spoilers for Episode III. They really only gloss over the main points of all 3 movies, with simple (albeit charming and funny) non-voiced Lego cutscenes.

I'm probably going to send the game back to GameFly, rent Episode III, and then buy an replay Lego once the price inevitably drops within the next couple months.

I've decided not to buy the game until after I've seen the movie. I know too much already, and I don't want to spoil it even more for me.
