The amount of dumbass plays commited in the last three games seriously reminds me of the complaining done by cubs fans last year when a Cubs player made a running mistake everday. Whether it was Bernie getting thrown out at 2nd trying to tag up and killing a rally, or Giambi getting caught in a run down, or Wolmack getting picked off. The starting pitching was once again bad. Brown and Pavano blew chunks, Pavanos given up now TWENTY more hits than innings, and 14 home runs. The D was pathetic. Bernie throwing to the wrong base, Cano killing a double play, Posada with three passed balls. Also, nobody is hitting, absolutley no one. The Royals starting pitching, horrible beside Grenkie, kept us down, including a 4 hitter against a guy with a NINE era. Their bullpen held us to one run in ten innings. The only positive I can get out of this series is that Tanyon Sturtze and Gordon continue to dominate, both with ERAS now under two. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to be swept by the Twins. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pavano is the latest example of the yanks inking a hotshot pitcher coming off a good year or having lots of potential and the pitcher self-destructing in NY. Then, except for Weaver, they are gone the next year cuz the boss has no patience for development of course. It bugs me that guys like Halsey are doing so well and vazquez and conteras doing better outside of NY, I guess some players just don't play well in the Yankee environment. I didn't see the sweep (thank god) but the biggest problems appears to be the lineup going cold again. But it happens, especially after getting humilaited by the red sox at home. That being said, they are only 5 games out still, so there is room for improvement. They need to win at least 2 out of 3 from the Twins to get back on track. Either that, or massive firings will begin (Cashman, I'm looking at you). So don't give up yet my fellow Bronx diehards. And remember, "when the leaves turn brown and the air gets chilled , look back towards the bronx, cuz that's where the big show known as the World Series will be played" of course whether that is true this year seems a bit unlikely, but hey I'll still say it. and also note that I know most will disagree with that but I'm just having some fun and trying to cheer up Mike who sounds really depressed over it, so just chill. I wrote a post about Pavano over the offseason but cannot find it due to the search feature not working. Essentially, I predicted Pavano would perform worse, citing the fact that his team's defense would be much worse, he was moving into a better hitting environment, a tougher pitchers' league, and he was lucky last year. Baseball Prospectus, using purely statistics and nothing about "New York Pressure," predicted a 4.64 ERA. By astonishing coincidence, Pavano's ERA is 4.50, fairly close. It has nothing to do with NY pressure. It has something to do with average pitchers having an amazing tendency to be average.

I think Cashman would be on the chopping block long before Torre would ever be. He'd get KILLED by the fans and the media if he fires Joe.

Anyway, Raffy hits a grand slam to get the Orioles back in the game at 7-7. It was looking pretty bleak prior to that though. Gil seems to be hurt in a similar fashion to how Javy Lopez got hurt. WTF is up with all the injuries?
