Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 You miss Radke and Santana.Plus Mauer, Morneau and Punto are all hurt for the Twins. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We just got swept by the Royals in seriously the most pathetic three games I've ever seen them play. The amount of dumbass plays commited in the last three games seriously reminds me of the complaining done by cubs fans last year when a Cubs player made a running mistake everday. Whether it was Bernie getting thrown out at 2nd trying to tag up and killing a rally, or Giambi getting caught in a run down, or Wolmack getting picked off. The starting pitching was once again bad. Brown and Pavano blew chunks, Pavanos given up now TWENTY more hits than innings, and 14 home runs. The D was pathetic. Bernie throwing to the wrong base, Cano killing a double play, Posada with three passed balls. Also, nobody is hitting, absolutley no one. The Royals starting pitching, horrible beside Grenkie, kept us down, including a 4 hitter against a guy with a NINE era. Their bullpen held us to one run in ten innings. The only positive I can get out of this series is that Tanyon Sturtze and Gordon continue to dominate, both with ERAS now under two. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to be swept by the Twins. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pavano is the latest example of the yanks inking a hotshot pitcher coming off a good year or having lots of potential and the pitcher self-destructing in NY. Then, except for Weaver, they are gone the next year cuz the boss has no patience for development of course. It bugs me that guys like Halsey are doing so well and vazquez and conteras doing better outside of NY, I guess some players just don't play well in the Yankee environment. I didn't see the sweep (thank god) but the biggest problems appears to be the lineup going cold again. But it happens, especially after getting humilaited by the red sox at home. That being said, they are only 5 games out still, so there is room for improvement. They need to win at least 2 out of 3 from the Twins to get back on track. Either that, or massive firings will begin (Cashman, I'm looking at you). So don't give up yet my fellow Bronx diehards. And remember, "when the leaves turn brown and the air gets chilled , look back towards the bronx, cuz that's where the big show known as the World Series will be played" of course whether that is true this year seems a bit unlikely, but hey I'll still say it. and also note that I know most will disagree with that but I'm just having some fun and trying to cheer up Mike who sounds really depressed over it, so just chill. LETS GO YANKEES (Clap clap clap)
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 Pavano is the latest example of the yanks inking a hotshot pitcher coming off a good year or having lots of potential and the pitcher self-destructing in NY. It bugs me that guys like Halsey are doing so well and vazquez and conteras doing better outside of NY, I guess some players just don't play well in the Yankee environment. New York pressure my ass. I wrote a post about Pavano over the offseason but cannot find it due to the search feature not working. Essentially, I predicted Pavano would perform worse, citing the fact that his team's defense would be much worse, he was moving into a better hitting environment, a tougher pitchers' league, and he was lucky last year. Baseball Prospectus, using purely statistics and nothing about "New York Pressure," predicted a 4.64 ERA. By astonishing coincidence, Pavano's ERA is 4.50, fairly close. It has nothing to do with NY pressure. It has something to do with average pitchers having an amazing tendency to be average.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 Well, explain Vazquez sucking ass last year, and pitching like a CY Young Award winner this year.
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 And don't start on how he struggled. Somebody of Javys caliber, when not injured, when he was signed to be an ace, has no right to struggle for half a season and the playoffs.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 The Tigers have done everything to blow a 4 run lead in the 9th and the Os cant take advantage. WHY CANT THE ORIOLES BEAT THE TIGERS!! WHY!!!!!
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 Mussina treats BRENT ABERNATHY like Barry Bonds, leading to a three run HRer by Lou Ford. It cannot get any worse, I think.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 Wow, the usually stalwart Angels bullpen coughs up 6 runs.
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 I don't want it to happen, and I don't think it will, but I can defitintley see Torre being fired before the season is over. This team has quit on him.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 Come on, I think that's being a BIT too harsh. But then again, this IS Steinbrenner we're talking about here...... I think Cashman would be on the chopping block long before Torre would ever be. He'd get KILLED by the fans and the media if he fires Joe.
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 There'd be no point in firing Cashman. Its George whos made all the bad choices, and whos calling the shots.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 So the bad decisions are Steinbrenner's doing. What about the good decisions the Yankees have made?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 So the bad decisions are Steinbrenner's doing. What about the good decisions the Yankees have made? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Such as? The only good decision the Yankees made last offseason was signing Tino Martinez.
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 I'm not saying they haven't made good decisions. I'm just saying its fairly ovbious that George wanted RJ over Javy and Halsey, George wanted Sheff instead of VLad, George wanted Giambi over Tino ect ..

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 George also wanted David Oritz, or at least that's what George's buddy who writes for the local fishwrap always mentions.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 I hear that's true, too, but at the time there was a first base/DH logjam with Giambi and Nick Johnson.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 And in retrospect, they sure made the right move. One's no longer with the club and the other, unfortunately, is.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 And since no one's noticed, Nick Johnson is quietly producing an MVP caliber season. .333 batting average, .446 On Base Percentage, and 31 RBIs.
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 Even though they gave Javy away for RJ, yu can't bash the Yankees for making that trade, with them THINKING that Giambi would continue to hit 30 + HRers with 100+ RBIs, and getting Javy in return.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 I'd trade Nick Johnson for what we thought was Pre-2004 and current Javy 100 times over again.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 I for one did not see Giambi falling has fast as he has. So saying the Giambi signing was a mistake, is too much hindsight at this point.

Anyway, Raffy hits a grand slam to get the Orioles back in the game at 7-7. It was looking pretty bleak prior to that though. Gil seems to be hurt in a similar fashion to how Javy Lopez got hurt. WTF is up with all the injuries?
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 We need a Grand Sierra here.
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 Sierra saved our season twice last year. The double against Oakland, and the HRer agains the Twins. Do it again Rube, please. EDIT: And he Ks on a pitch two feet above his head. Ugh.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 Another tear rolls down George Steinbrenner's cheek. Base Loaded, 1 out, and we come up with 1 run. What the hell are we, the Oakland A's?

mike546 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 That was way to close to being De Ja Vu all over again. edit: Yankees need to bring back the 96 mojo. "We play today, we win today - that's it."
