Shanghai Kid Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 The first Kickboxer is solid popcorn movie, along with Lion Heart and Bloodsport, this is Jean Claude at his best. Kickboxer 2, for some reason they can't get Jean Claude so they go with Sasha Mitchell. Odd choice indeed, as I haven't seen Sasha in any other movies, and the only thing we've seen him as is the half retarded Cody from Step by Step. I like the guy though, he makes David Sloan the most likeable Sloan of them all. Van Damn never really showed the proper amount of vulnerability that his character needed, with Cody does. Now one thing I hate about Kickboxer 2, is that they reveal that both Sloan brothers AND the girl from part 1 all were killed. Doesn't that just make the first Kickboxer seem worthless? Hey we won the battle, but ultimately we're all shot and killed so this is all for nothing. Tong Po, the baddest motherf***** in the land. He fights dirty, always using knees and elbows and he has no qualms about beating up the ref or gunning down his opponent after losing. Only problem with Tong Po is that in every movie he gets the holy hell beat out of him but he NEVER dies. You would think after killing his brothers, Cody would of just gone ahead and killed him. If you watch all 4 movies, it will leave you pissed to see that Tong Po never dies and we'll never see the resolution to that. Overall, it's a fun series. Kickboxer 3 kind of has a different story, but if you watch 1/2/4 as a trilogy, it's definetly a good way to kill time on a rainy day.
Paul Stanley Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I'm a fan of the series, except 3 or 4 had alot of softcore sex scenes didn't it?
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 as I haven't seen Sasha in any other movies Other than the Kickboxer movies and Step by Step, he hasn't done squat. The first 2 Kickboxer movies were a guilty pleasure, I got lost after that. Which one was when they went to Rio and got involved with the teenage kidnapping/prostitute ring? 3 or 4? Off topic, didn't they make like 2 Bloodsport sequels without Van Damme?
Placebo Effect Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Other than the Kickboxer movies and Step by Step, he hasn't done squat. Off topic, didn't they make like 2 Bloodsport sequels without Van Damme? Sasha did a terrible DTV film a while back called Gangland. Incredibly silly is the best way to describe it. Bloodsport was made by the Canon Group, who tended not to make sequels unless the original stars (Dudikoff for American Ninja, Bronson for Death Wish) returned. I get the feeling that by the time Bloodsport came out, Van Damme had attached himself to an agent who wanted to slowly make him the star he became.
Guest Beingz0wningj00 Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 There's actually Bloodsport 2/3/4 And god knows how many American Ninja's... Don't know squat about Kickboxer movies... although it is on today on Spike TV... maybe I'll watch it...
Placebo Effect Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 There's actually Bloodsport 2/3/4 Holy fuck. How'd I forget about those, considering I've spoken to Daniel Bernhardt before.
razazteca Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 I'm a fan of the series, except 3 or 4 had alot of softcore sex scenes didn't it? Which one was in Brazil?
