Offer To Purchase TNA Withdrawn !!!!

Recommended Posts

Well, without a TV show, and therefore no hype for a PPV (Good work TNA!), what else is there to talk about.

Actually, at the NWA No Limits show tonight, the ring announcer plugged Slammiversary, so I imagine that all of the NWA shows will be plugging the PPV throughout the US, so it's not like they're getting no hype.

TNA has a fanbase?

ECW in it's dying days was still drawing 3k people legit into the crowd, while TNA wouldn't fill half that studio if the admission werent free.

Decent ish article about Dave Nelson

Most everyone who reads the PRO WRESTLING TORCH website has been following the curious saga of Total Nonstop Action's ownership situation. NWA Ohio owner/promoter Dave Nelson announced his intention to purchase a controlling interest in NWA-TNA from Panda Energy.

Nelson purchased the NWA Ohio "territory" from former National Wrestling Alliance president Richard Arpin, who wasn't running shows in that portion of the state. Nelson, listed on his site as Dave "Thunder" Nelson, is the promotion's lead manager and head trainer of the NWA Ohio wrestling school. He hardly has the qualifications, either personally or financially, to own and run a national wrestling promotion. On first blush, a lot of people thought that Nelson's offer to purchase Total Nonstop Action was a joke.

Surprisingly “The Nelson Corporation” did make a $10 million offer on the promotion. That offer has not been accepted by Panda Energy. Mr. Nelson may not have the public relations and marketing flair of World Wrestling Entertainment, but given that he has made an offer on TNA, maybe it’s time for wrestling journalists to take his public statements at face value in order to get a better grasp on the situation.

Nelson’s first press release claimed that Jim Duggan and “three silent backers” are helping him put together this deal. This might very well be true. Duggan was wrestled and helped book for NWA Ohio. According to TORCH sources, and as revealed in this week’s TORCH newsletter, Hulk Hogan’s name has been linked to Dave Nelson’s deal. Hogan suffered a career setback last month due to the disappointing buyrate for WWE Backlash. Hogan could see the weekly two-hour primetime slot on WGN as an opportunity to grab the national spotlight again without going through Vince McMahon.

But who are the other two “silent backers”? Well, one would have to be the person providing the financing. It is doubtful Dave Nelson has ten million dollars of his own money to chip in. Hulk Hogan does have a lot of money, but he’s been very smart about hanging on to it over the years. It wouldn’t fit with Hogan’s personality for him to risk his nest egg on this venture.

The third “silent backer” hasn’t reared his head either, but we can guess. Before Dave Nelson made his offer to purchase TNA, he flew down to Orlando and met with Jeff and Jerry Jarrett. Nelson has claimed he is privy to inside knowledge about TNA’s television deals, which leaves the question of where he’d get that information from. If the Jarretts were part of a group looking to purchase TNA, they’d hardly be advertising the fact, which explains the need for silence. And there are TNA employees who believe that the Jarretts have been sabotaging TNA for months in order to drive the sale price down.

Of course, this leaves a big question unanswered. What happens when Panda Energy doesn’t sell their portion of TNA to the Nelson Corporation? Well, from TORCH reports we’ve learned that Nelson’s public negotiations have already affected the television negotiations with WGN. And Nelson is on the record stating that if his “corporation” doesn’t buy TNA, they’ll be looking to start their own national promotion.

If TNA doesn’t get some sort of national television deal, they’ll be finished. And that would open up the door for another promotion to take a stab at the coveted WGN primetime slot. The network might be leery of a new wrestling promotion, unless it had Hulk Hogan’s name associated with it, and was run by the people who ran NWA-TNA.

That's uh, and interesting take, I guess

Ha, what a dick. TNA no-sells the offer, so he starts a rumor about the WGN deal being dead in a press release in order to hopefully hurt their credibility and drive down their value. Yeah, that's a businessman move there.

The Jarrett's secretly hired Dusty Rhodes to book horrible shit! It's quite genius. Maybe they are all in cahoots with Dixie Carter.....and the terrorists.

Well, Jarrett was tight with Russo, who, of course, went from WWE to WCW to destroy it...it's all a CONSPIRACY

I like how the TNA folder is just basically one big thread now about the WGN thing and the future/direction of the company.

Exciting times.

Its gotten very boring, very quickly due to all the hate thats going around by posters and the inactivity on TNAs part.

Well, without a TV show, and therefore no hype for a PPV (Good work TNA!), what else is there to talk about.

Besides, you and the Slapnuts guy were looking for more discussion here, wernt ya

Well, hopefully nearer the PPV, things will probably pick up. I wish the site would annonce one or two matches though

There isnt much to talk about, except identifying possible futures of the company as a going concern or a defunct entity.

I dont know why the TNA website hasnt been updated in a while. Its the only means they have to connecting with the outside world. :S

As opposed to TNA which is always comped?

Lets see...

Even if half of a 3000 seat arena was comped by ECW, that's still 1500 as compared to ZERO.

Whoever compared TNA to ECW is spot-on. Even the fanbase is similarly devoted.

Not really. I'd say it's a few optimistic points amongst a map of cynicism.

The only reason people tell themselves this promotion has a chance is that they've admittedly come a very long way from the days of wrestling penises and midget fights, and in a very short period of time.

They managed to survive Russo and arguably come out ahead of where they started.

They added people who used to draw legitimate pops at major-league events, whereas previously they had Jeff Jarrett.

Then Panda was willing to blow money on getting watchable wrestlers AND putting on a decent production. Whereas previously, when they started, they had okay production values but mostly crappy wrestling. Then they lost their bigger arena and had a number of good matches in some joint that looked like it was filmed in an unused corner of the local Costco.

This promotion has had what feels like an endless stream of second chances and shots in the arm, but some people will always mistake it with "potential."
