Got it. Even better than the earlier build we had.

Playing Microsoft at the Live version on Wednesday, as they're bringing down eight TVs and we're having a day of mass carnage on the new Halo 2 maps.

Only 9 more days til I can pick it up...

I've been seriously looking forward to this since the original was one of my favorite N64 games. I have the demo on Jade Empire to tide me over, but I'd love to hear any details you can share.

I've been seriously looking forward to this since the original was one of my favorite N64 games.  I have the demo on Jade Empire to tide me over, but I'd love to hear any details you can share.

Well, the solo mode is just a flat-out remake of the N64 version, albeit a lot shinier and prettier. Seriously, this is one of the best-looking Xbox titles this generation - possibly THE best-looking. There are a couple of small tweaks, and a few of the trickier, more awkward (and sometimes just downright infuriating because of the original, twitchier controls) moments have been made easier, but it hasn't been dumbed down at all.

So, the solo mode really holds no surprises. If you've played through it before and want to go through it again you'll have a blast, and newcomers will love it, but just be aware that there's nothing really new (though it IS fun to see the next-gen spit and polish that Rare has given everything).

The multiplayer, however, is the jewel in Conker's crown. It is INFINITELY better than the twitchy, sloppy, touchy, occasionally random handling of the N64's multiplayer, and is just a dream to control. The combat is class-based, so you have Long Rangers, Sky Jockeys, Demolishers... everything a growing boy could need. The multiplayer combat is even MORE frantic than Halo 2, and just as much fun. It's Tediz VS SHC all the way, and each multiplayer level sees a different campaign and an individual objective for each team. So the beach landings see the Tediz defending against the SHC, the Doon level sees the SHC trying to battle through to capture the king and so on. There are also CTF's and other standard multiplayer fare. There are 16 "dumbots" so that you can enjoy the multiplayer side even without being online, and there is even a multiplayer campaign mode that sees you working through each of the missions in single or Co-op.

The preview code we had three weeks or so ago had a couple of sound glitches, but everything so far has been great with the retail version, and this is easily my favourite console title this year - it's a definite must-have for the Xbox.

No. Rare's exclusive to Microsoft these days.

But an N64 + Conker these days is less than buying L+R, but the framerate hurts on the 64 version.

THere's also that whole thing about the N64 not having "N64 Live" support, but I see what you're saying Drew.

Edit: But you were answering the question of someone without an Xbox.

Spree, did Rare send over any Conkers T-Shirts? I'd sport one if you got an extra one you wouldn't mind sending on over.

How fucking lazy of Rare. Why couldn't they have made a new game instead of a remake of a N64 title?

(Rare detractor)Because they can't make good new games anymore. (/Rare detractor)

(Rare fanboy)Because after the criminally underrated Grabbed by the Ghoulies, they've been pumping their efforts into Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero, and this is just a little bonus in the meantime.(/Rare fanboy)

Nah, we didn't get any.

We're not likely to, either, after the ownage that we brought to Microsoft on the new Halo maps. P. W. N. E. D.

I've never played Conker....what's the story? I hear its a good game...

I'm a big Halo 2 fan, so....how is this similar, Spree? Just so I can have a point of reference.

By the way, is there a Worms game for XBox live?

Well, Conker Live (a third-person shooter) isn't really similar to Halo gameplay-wise – it's more the wildness, the balls-out aspect of running-and-gunning and just blowing the shit out of the enemy team while you run like a madman wit the flag. You know, the "feel" of it. It's great team-based combat, basically, and it's even more hectic than Halo.

And Worms 4: Mayhem is Live-enabled but, that aspect aside, it really isn't any different from FUS or 3D.

Yeah, I played this at my friend's house yesterday, and WOW.

Graphics wise, this is PROBABLY one of, or maybe THE BEST looking game of this generation! Holy crap, I remembered the N64 version, and I couldn't believe how much of a graphical jump this took! I love the hair textures in the game, EVERYTHING!

Multiplayer is PURE GOLD! I love the classes system. It really puts actual strategy into the game now. The maps are HUGE, and even have objectives, like taking down barricades and hacking doors and stuff. CRAPPY part is, I believe you can play 4 players offline. It only allows 2 to a game, so in order to play with 4 players offline, you would have to do a system link game. The game is basically the same on XBOX Live.
