PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2005 Found this on another board: "Former ROH champion/current ROH Pure Wrestling champion Samoa Joe has signed with TNA and will debut for TNA at this Sunday's Slammiversary PPV event, facing Sonjay Dutt. There's no word on to the details of the deal yet, but TNA sources have told me that Joe has agreed to terms. In recent weeks, there had been discussions between Joe and World Wrestling Entertainment, although nothing in the form of an official offer. The TNA deal will preclude Joe from following CM Punk, who is expected to sign a WWE developmental deal shortly. The TNA deal will not effect Joe's Ring of Honor obligations. TNA had attempted to sign Joe vs. CM Punk for Slammiversary, but as reported in the Elite Section of PWInsider.com over the weekend, Punk requested a 45 minute window for the two so they didn't have a match that wouldn't live up to the legacy of their Ring of Honor classics, which led to that idea not coming to fruition. Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted June 14, 2005 I wonder if the ROH board just imploded upon itself. I'll go check.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 14, 2005 The board didnt implode upon itself when CM Punk was reported to (and wrongly at that) have signed with WWE. We are not that bad.

Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 14, 2005 It should be noted it's likely the "WONT INTERFERE WITH ROH BOOKINGS" causing that.
Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted June 15, 2005 The board didnt implode upon itself when CM Punk was reported to (and wrongly at that) have signed with WWE. We are not that bad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> By god, you can be. I'd fairly say a good half of your board doesn't get what wrestling's actually about. I mean nothing personal, but the ROH board takes itself WAY too seriously and is one of the consistant turnoffs for me. I like ROH. I like talking with certain people about ROH. But I would never call myself a fan, at risk of lowering my value of a person because of the assocation. By the way, the point is to make money. Addition: That's the other problem with ROH fans. They cursed an entire promotion because three or four wrestlers (AJ, Dutt, Daniels, Red. I don't think I'm missin' anyone) chose to make money and get exposure while a promotion was in minor turmoil, they blame the promotion. They had the option to say "I want to work in ROH because I believe in it." They didnt. AJ and Daniels, I know, have families to support. Dutt was getting a college education. Red...I don't know about Red's life, but he's got his own agenda, and needed the money more than the respect. It's sad how quick ROH fans cried against the promotion who offered people more money to further their lives. If they had turned TNA down, they would not have exposure and the ability to earn more money. AJ Styles would not be the undeniable draw he is now without the three NWA World Heavyweight Title wins. Christopher Daniels would not be a name without TNA. Sonjay Dutt would not be a name if it wasn't for TNA. Red would not have been a name without TNA. The fans demanded to see them back. Christopher Daniels has expanded farther thanks to TNA. And made more money to support his family. HEll, all the ROH fans who bought the first show after his "injury" saw him holding a kid. He has to support his family. But they didn't take that into account. All they saw was TNA took them, and they should burn for it. They spoke the words "Fuck TNA" as loud as they could. And for what? Because they offered more money to human beings with real professions? Fuck them all, then, if they won't permit men to support their lives, families, and dreams. So yes. They are that bad. I apologize if I got off a tangent. I'm just getting this off my chest.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 15, 2005 and entertain. Making money and entertaining is the backbone of the wrestling business. They do both very well. obviously the ROH board does have its annoying characters but so does this place. Just a matter of ignoring those.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 15, 2005 However, back to the topic at hand here. I'm not sure about this but Ultimately Joe might have made the right move. I think he gets the feeling WWE only wanted him to prevent TNA from getting him and wouldnt quite use him. TNA allows him to work ROH and other indy dates, which he likes and if TNA does die, he can still work and see if WWE was honestly interested in him for HIM. as for the Sonjay Dutt part? probably just to establish Joe to the new fanbase and because Dutt isnt a main name and can bump for Joe. Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Joe did make the right move, I think. WWE would have tried to shape him, and New Japan would have ruined him, and he would have gone with it every step of the way. Dutt's good at working larger opponents, based on his work in TNA. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Also, I think TNA likes to have people with unique spots, so his Ole kick won't be a problem, I don't think, he just won't be able to run as far to set it up
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 This could mean a decent reign for AJ. He and Joe had a pretty good match in ROH, and this could be a case of them bringing in someone that they know, from AJ, can have a good to great match with their champion. Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Dutt's good at working larger opponents, based on his work in TNA. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who are some of the larger guys he's worked well with? My TNA viewing has steadily decreased over the past year or so and I haven't seen much from Dutt other than a match with Kid Kash that I enjoyed. I kind of remember him doing some good stuff with Carl "X" Oulette but that's about it...
Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Son of a bitch. I meant to type CZW. In TNA, he worked against Raven, did most of the X Div cup as the smaller part of the team, and got regularly murdered in CZW by guys like Ruckus and Acid, who are technically heavyweights. I don't mean giant types, though, as it's, like, only Joe and Necro as monsters on the indy scene. I havent seen him work Claudio at the Trifecta challenge. But, whenever there's a match he's in when he has a size disadvantage, I've enjoyed watching him in.
Magus 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 HELL YEAH for Samoa Joe in TNA. TNA gets a new rock-solid main eventer, and ROH doesn't lose their icon. Assuming TNA survives and keeps D'Amore with the book, Joe will be a HUGE shot in the arm. Less Jarrett, more Joe!

Garth 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 I whole heartedly approve of Joe getting the chance of show casing his talents on a potentially national level. He's a brilliant guy and a great talent and really does deserve this oppurtuinity. Hopefully he does more than just wrestle at Slammiversery in his match against Dutt, which I'm sure will be very enjoyable. Hopefully he gets involved in some other aspect of the show in order to really make an impactful debut. Do you guys reckon his signiture spots like the Ole kick will get over in TNA? Astro101 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Can someone describe the Ole Kick?
Garth 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Basically Joe sits his opponent down on the outside on a chair in a corner where the guardrails connect. He then gets the crowd chanting Ole, Ole, Ole. He takes a few steps back before taking a run up and nailing them with a kick to the face.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Addition: That's the other problem with ROH fans. They cursed an entire promotion because three or four wrestlers (AJ, Dutt, Daniels, Red. I don't think I'm missin' anyone) chose to make money and get exposure while a promotion was in minor turmoil, they blame the promotion. Not to get into a whole thing, but it wasn't that those wrestlers chose not to work for ROH. TNA stopped them and could because they were under contract. The ROH fans did get overly pissy about that though, its true.
TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 This will be my first taste of Joe, and this isn't a knock on him, but I like that they aren't using Joe to be the mystery guy. I think that would be a mistake just like I think they would be making a mistake to not establish the guy to the audience that's never seen RoH first. It's not like a Matt Hardy, who casual and internet fans have mostly seen, but even in that case, they shouldn't just push him into the main event right away. In both, they should take the path they took with Raven. Make him a big deal, but build him for a title shot

If they take their time and show him off to the crowd in good matches, he'll become a HUGE face. If they do this, the fans will be begging to see Joe challenge for the title in just a few short months.

I agree, Joe could be a good main event foil down the road. I don't see TNA putting the belt on him though.
