PWG Presents "The 2nd Annual PWG Bicentennial Birthday Extravaganza" on July 9 & 10, 2005!

Lava Beds National Monument, CA - It's hard to believe that it's only been two years since the debut of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com,) because man, it feels like this is our bicentennial anniversary. Looking back on the rich, 200 year history of PWG, it's tough to imagine where we'd be without Eli Whitney's two reigns as PWG Champion, or Frankie Kazarian's world renowned Cotton Gin. It's also difficult to think about what could possibly be done to celebrate an organization which has left such an indelible impression on the planet over the last two centuries, whether a large parade and fireworks event would be appropriate, or to just stick with the horse that brung us, and celebrate with two nights of incredible wrestling. Granted, we won't be able to relive the the famous battles from the 1890's between George Washington Carver and "Technical Phrenologist" Cassius Ryan (Great-Great-Grandfather of "Technical Wizard" Joey Ryan,) but we promise fans will not be disappointed with what we have in store.

On Night 1 of "The 2nd Annual PWG Bicentennial Birthday Extravaganza," AJ Styles will defend his PWG Championship against the dreaded mystery opponent, a man who has faced and sometimes beaten champions from around the world. Now he steps up to the plate against "The Phenomenal One," looking to score a huge victory over the former NWA Heavyweight Champion and the current PWG Champion!

After wining the number one contenders match at "Guitarmageddon!," the Aerial Express' (Quicksilver & Scorpio Sky) celebration was cut short when PWG Tag Team Champions Arrogance (Chris Bosh & Scott Lost) claimed they had given AXP more than their fair share of chances to win the title, and that they have everything to lose in a title match, while AXP risks nothing. Bosh said the only way Arrogance would put the titles on the line is if AXP would put their masks on the line, making it a match Arrogance must win, and one the Aerial Express can't afford to lose!

Having successfully defended his TNA X-Division Championship on four occasions in PWG, "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels is now growing confident in his role as champion, telling Commissioner "[email protected]" Valerie Wyndham that he will defend the title against any challenger she has to offer. After a few phone calls, SoCalVal found man she deems the perfect challenger, one who she thinks will end the Fallen Angel's title reign, and that man is former X-Division Champion Chris Sabin!

Stemming from the controversial events at June 11th's "Guitarmageddon!" the battle between the new SBS (Disco Machine, Excalibur & "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen) and Super Dragon rages on, as Dragon teams up with El Generico & Human Tornado in a 6 person elimination match. Coming off a savage beating at the hands of SBS, as well as an unprecedented two losses in a row, Super Dragon is looking to exact some measure of revenge, and while not necessarily looking for a victory, he has promised that his team will give SBS the most vicious beating of their lives.

Plus in a special attraction match, the returning "Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams squares off with "Havana Pitbull" Ricky Reyes!

Night 1 of "The 2nd Annual PWG Bicentennial Birthday Extravaganza" will also feature: "Technical Wizard" Joey Ryan, Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre,) Davey Richards, HookGun (Hook Bomberry & Top Gun Talwar,) PWG Commissioner "SoCalVal" Valerie Wyndham, and more!

----------------------

Night 2 of "The 2nd Annual PWG Bicentennial Birthday Extravaganza" will be just as special Night 1, some might even say it will be more special! While we here at PWG love each and every one of our shows equally, we will leave it up to you, the fan, to decide which of our children we should love more! All PWG titles will be on the line on Night 2:

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. James Gibson

Number One Contenders Grudge Match

"Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen vs. Super Dragon

Arrogance (Chris Bosh & Scott Lost) vs. Chris Sabin & Petey Williams

Ricky Reyes vs. Mystery Opponent 2 (Not the same guy from the first night, because that wouldn't be a mystery!)

Mr. Excitement vs. "Techncal Wizard" Joey Ryan

"The Pinoy Boy" TJ Perkins vs. Davey Richards

Plus El Generico, Human Tornado, SBS (Disco Machine & Excalibur,) Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre,) HookGun (Hook Bomberry & Top Gun Talwar,) PWG Commissioner "SoCalVal" Valerie Wyndham, and more!

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's "The 2nd Annual PWG Bicentennial Birthday Extravaganza - Night 1" takes place at the Hollywood-Los Feliz JCC on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 7:00PM. "The 2nd Annual PWG Bicentennial Birthday Extravaganza - Night 2" takes place at the Hollywood-Los Feliz JCC on Sunday, July 10, 2005 at 5:00PM. The Hollywood-Los Feliz JCC is located at 1110 Bates Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90029.

Which has better shipping HIGHSPOTS.com or PROWRESTLINGGUERRILLA.com??

If you live in Southern California, go with their site. Shipping time is near instantaneous. I got Rocktoberfest in just about 2-3 days.

Dunno about Highspots.

“Unofficial 2nd Annual PWG Bicentennial Birthday Extravaganza” preview by Paul “Totally not fake name” Newberry and Jay “Also totally not a fake name” Doring

Hello! Welcome another one of these darn things (PWG Preview #22 actually. I don’t what’s more sad, the fact that I did 22 previews or that I counted them. I’ll leave that up to you)

Ok, PWG has a lot of matches announced this time, and I don’t want to write a 30 page preview as much as I know you don’t want to read one. SO each write up will be "slightly" more abridged this time around.

But first... I have a quick Question, do you remember where you were on July 26th 2003? Drunk in a gutter somewhere? Watching that episode of “Small Wonder” where Vicki’s evil twin “Victoria” locks her in a box and tries to take her place as the robot of the house? Or just lost in the bottomless sea of your own personal lament?

Yeah me too… but after that I did happen to attend the very first Pro Wrestling Guerrilla show at “Frank and Son’s” I remember it if as it were only 24 months ago. No one knew what to expect from this new promotion. Would it last? Or quickly burn out like all the other “SoCal Super feds” that came before it? (Looking at you, EPIC)

The sounds of Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle” echoed through the arena. As ring announcer Jon Ian came down to get things started with the most random 6-person tag ever! Followed by a rookie Chris Bosh getting knocked cold via Excalibur’s mighty Minnesota lariat, AXP and The Ballards having a hell of match, Super Dragon took on M-Dogg 20. The cheery young X-Foundation met Hardcore Inc in one a really heated contest, and in the main event AJ Styles made his SoCal debut against The Coolest Man on this or any other planet, Frankie Kazarian.

Little were we aware at the time, but that afternoon we witnessed the seeds planted for a promotion that would soon grow into one of the world’s finest.

Some of the many unforgettable highlights of PWG’s first year included:

-- Frankie Kazarian winning the Bad Ass Mother 3000 (in front of a 110 people no less! Where were all you people then?) to become the first PWG champion.

--Joey Ryan and Super Dragon’s series of matches, including the unfathomable Guerrilla Warfare match--

--BJ Whitmer's debut in December, that changed all our lives forever

--The star studded “Tango and Cash Invitational” where B-Boy and Homicide were crowned the first ever PWG Tag Team Champions.

--The AXP Deluxe Vs. PWG Feud

-- the Osaka Pro Invasion

-- The Tag Titles changing hands every show

-- Samoa Joe and American Dragon's 30 minute draw.

-- The Oven Mits

-- The Frankie Kazarian vs. Adam Pearce feud, which all culminated in the blockbuster Loser leaves town Steel Cage match at the huge “Reason for the season” first anniversary show.

From there, in PWG’s 2nd year of operation, the promotion continued to make strides and evolve with each passing show. As well as seeing an influx of the world’s top talent entering PWG on a monthly basis, as the likes of Kevin Steen, El Generico, Jack Evans, Austin Aries, Chris Sabin, Petey Williams, Alex Shelley, Roderick Strong, Sexxy Eddy, Davey Richards, Team Chikara, and James Gibson all made their way through PWG for the first time.

As well as the top SoCal's best and brightest taking their games to a new level, As Scott Lost and Chris Bosh (Better known as Arrogance) emerged as the hottest tag team in wrestling today. Plus who could ever forget The Super Dragon Vs. Samoa Joe feud? Or Super Dragon and Joey Ryan putting their feud to rest once and for all in the greatest match in PWG history at Use Your Illusion 4?

PLUS The top Indy star in country, AJ Styles made PWG his home, and captured the PWG title and our hearts at the colossal ALL STAR WEEKEND Double Shot. PWG’s biggest shows to date, which drew in fans from around the globe.

One can only wonder what the future of PWG has in store for us…fortunately we don’t have to wait long to find out, as on July 9th and 10th they will present 2nd anniversary blow out! Entitled the “2nd Annual PWG Bicentennial Birthday Extravaganza!"

Yes, it’s PWG’s birthday, and breaking with tradition... they are giving us a present! As they will put on not one, not three, not even seven but TWO WHOLE SHOWS in a weekend filled to the very brim with fun, Mr. Excitement and the kind of action that only PWG can bring you! (Good lord I’m shill… you’d think I was getting paid for this or something. Also remember to buy Crest toothpaste, Firestone Tires and to drink your ovaltine)

Let’s get this started….

“Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams Vs. Ricky Reyes!

Past History: First Time ever meeting.

PWG Records: Petey Williams is 1-1 overall, Ricky Reyes is 12-7 overall

Jay Doring's Thoughts: There are some truly great exits in recent entertainment history. Example: Steve Rhodes becoming a forest ranger in "Married with Children." Joel Robinson getting shot down to Australia in an escape pod hidden in a box of hamdingers (but not before imparting the wisdom of Dr. Lao) in Mystery Science Theater 3000. And who can forget Maude Flanders getting shot with a t-shirt gun on The Simpsons? And now...Ricky Reyes will leave sunny SoCal for the smog-filled East Coast to pursue his dream of...whatever dream he has, but not before going against that guy who does that move, Petey Williams.

This match is a true test for the former Havana Pitbull. Reyes has been trying to valiantly make an individual identity for himself since Rocky Romero became Black Tiger #4. He's had mixed success in PWG, defeating Roderick Strong and NOSAWA, but losing to Frankie Kazarian and Chris Sabin. Petey Williams is one of the hottest names on the Indies, and defeating him would go a long way toward establishing Reyes as a singles force. Plus there's the (IWA-MS) MATTER OF PRIDE. This is Reyes' swansong in PWG, and like Bill Clinton, he wants a legacy, and he wants to make sure that legacy won't be Canadian Destroyer Victim #4578. All signs point to Reyes winning, but Petey HAS THAT MOVE~!

Prediction: The CANADIAN DESTORYER! Oh and Petey Williams too.

"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels vs. Chris Sabin

Past History: Have met many times. Including recently on TNA PPV for the very same X-Division title.

PWG Records: Christopher Daniels is 9-7-1 overall (8-4-1 as a single) Chris Sabin is 1-2 (1-1 as a single)

Jay Doring’s thoughts: You look up the word "winner" in the dictionary....you know, anyone who starts an article with "you look up [x] in the dictionary is pretty lame. But you know, these two Chris fellas both tend to win a whole lot. Daniels is on a major streak in PWG, successfully defending his X-Division title against Chris Hero, Alex Shelley and El Generico in PWG, and has one of the longest reigns with that belt to date. Chris Sabin, on the other hand, is enjoying a renaissance on the independent scene, adding the Jeff Peterson Cup to his trophy-filled mantle (which includes the IWC Super Indy tourney, the Super X Cup and the Detroit Regional Belly-Dancing title).

Interesting to note in this match, is that this is Christopher Daniels' first title defense in PWG against a fellow employee of NWA-TNA, and not only that, against someone who is generally unbeatable in X-Division title matches. During Sabin's two title reigns, he was never pinned uno dos tres for that belt. In an X-Division environment, Chris Sabin is king. Further playing in Sabin's favor is the fact that Daniels has a PWG championship match the very next night. While Daniels is usually one of the smartest and coolest wrestlers in the game, the lure of taking out his nemesis AJ Styles or FORMER WWE CHAMPION Jamie Noble may cause him to give Chris Sabin the short shrift.

To "smark" this preview up a bit- While there are long odds of an X-Division title change happening outside Universal Studios, you never know what is happening in the minds of the D squad (Dusty, D'Amore, Dutch and Dixie). A title change happening in PWG may in fact result in a mutually beneficial interest spike for both promotions- this one is NOT a foregone conclusion folks...but I'm going to go with the safe pick like I always do (DAMN YOU BELLAMY ROAD!) and pick Daniels.

Prediction: Christopher Daniels retains

Titles vs. Masks

Scott Lost and Chris Bosh© vs. The Aerial Express

The Aerial express way to the gold~! (Featuring 15% new material and only 10% fruit juice)

Our story begins in October of 2004, where after months of inactivity, at PWG’s Use Your Illusion 3. The AXP embarked on the long and winding road to the PWG Tag titles. As they defeated the team of Disco Machine and Excalibur to earn their first shot at the PWG tag team titles.

Two weeks later at PWG's Use Your Illusion 4. The AXP received their shot at the gold… as they met the new champions Arrogance (Scott Lost and Chris Bosh) The AXP gave the champs more than a run for their money, as they took them to the very limits (that’s so cliché I know) but before the match could come to a conclusion. Arrogance’s then stable mate Babi Slymm saw fit to interfere on their behalf. But after a miscommunication with Lost/Bosh. Slymm ended up spearing his own stable mate Chris Bosh! Scorpio Sky made the cover on the incapacitated Bosh, and it looked like he had the match won. Referee Hernandez crawled over… but instead of counting the fall, called for the disqualification due to Slymm’s interference! The AXP had been robbed their opportunity at the tag team titles, and Arrogance had lived to fight another day.

Undaunted, The Express kept on rolling as they fought their way back to another title shot defeating Kevin Steen/El Generico, and The Havana Pitbulls along the way.

At "All Nude Revue" The AXP received their 2nd shot at the titles. In another thriller, the tandems engaged what could be considered (least in my opinion) the best PWG tag team match this year. With both teams knowing each know so well, the bout was nothing less than a symphony of tag team brilliance. But in a real nail biter, The Aerial Express once again came up short, as Arrogance’s sly craftiness once again enabled them to escape with the titles as they used an underhanded leverage tactic to steal one. The anger of being cheated out of the titles once again, caused Scorpio Sky to explode (Yes, he literally explode! Pieces of him were everywhere. Was horrible) as he attacked Referee Patrick Hernandez (who’d twice now cost them the titles), and vented his anger by throwing chairs into the ring.

The two team’s path’s crossed once again at “All Star Weekend Night One” where the AXP and Frankie Kazarian were victorious over Arrogance and Joey Ryan in a 6-man tag after Kazarian pinned Bosh. A small measure of revenge if nothing else…

The next month, The AXP returned to the title hunt and were victorious over Hook Bomberry/Top Gun Talwar and The Ballard Brothers in a 3-way dance. Afterward the AXP led the fans in attendance in a chant of “One more shot” (they weren’t referring to that drunken fan either… though he may have thought they were)

And the following month at PWG’s “Guitarmageddon" they finally earned that shot by defeating the formidable “Los Luchas” and it appeared the AXP would finally get the opportunity they’d long awaited. But Arrogance made their way to ring side to rain on the AXP’s parade once again. They stated that they had already beaten them twice and refused to wrestle them again…. unless they agreed to put their masks on the line! Arrogance wanted to be rid of The AXP for good. With their backs against the wall, the AXP had no other choice but to accept the stipulation

This was not a sign of desperation on behalf of the AXP, I think the best way to describe it... is sheer determination. In their 2 years in PWG, the Aerial Express had conquered every obstacle thrown in their paths… except one… Arrogance. And with 9 months of building frustration behind them, The AXP would refuse to be denied again and are willing to put EVERYTHING on the line to capture what rightfully belongs to them!

At Night One of PWG’s 2 Year Anniversary, Will the AXP at last realize their dream? Or forever perish in the attempt? July 9th… It’s the biggest tag team match in PWG History…. BE THERE!

Past History: A ton! Not even going to attempt to recap it all (unless you want this to be a 30 page preview after all)

PWG Records: Scott Lost is 19-9 overall & Chris Bosh is 14-10 overall, 9-0 as a duo. Quicksilver is 11-11, Scorpio Sky is 10-11, 7-3 as a duo

Thoughts: If you happened to ask me “Hey, where’s bathroom?” I’d probably say “down the hall and to the right… Can’t miss it” But if you already knew where said bathroom was located… and instead asked me “Hey, what match are you most looking forward on these two shows?” I’d stare at you blankly and wonder where my wallet was. But after I found it, I’d without hesitation have to say Arrogance vs. Aerial Express. In my humble opinion, this is the biggest tag title match I can remember anywhere in years (Go ahead… name a bigger one… I dare you. Heck I triple dog dare you)

Not only is the story behind it, a fine example of wrestling storytelling at its finest. But the last two meetings have been just incredible. I would rank among the best ever in PWG thus far. Each featuring more well thought out moves than a Gary Kasparov match. So I don’t think I’m going out on a limb at all when I say this is my best for match of the entire weekend.

Prediction: WOW, this is a really tough prediction to make. It could realistic go either way (I think AXP could survive just fine without their masks... their talent speaks for itself) but… I’d have to say The Aerial Express takes it. (Arrogance are really running out of challengers)

6-Man Elimination GRUDGE MATCH

The New "S.B.S." Kevin Steen, Excalibur, Disco Machine vs. Super Dragon, El Generico, Human Tornado

BACKSTORY:

(Read my SD/Disco vs. Excalibur/Kevin Steen back story from my last preview (http://www.socaluncensored.com/board/showthread.php3?t=8546 ) for the first part of this story)

June 11th, at Guitarmageddon, this war raged on as Kevin Steen and Excalibur faced off with Super Dragon and Disco Machine. Only this time minus the sneak attacks and the element of surprise… and plus one seriously pissed off Super Dragon. Before the match started, While Kevin Steen was desperately fighting off the rather large amount of crowd support, he was receiving (He’s a heel damn it!) Steen mentioned that he had entered PWG for two reasons… 1. To take Super Dragon out (not to lunch either) 2. to win the PWG title… not to win the admiration of the crowd! He then proceeded to threaten some near by fans (something we’d all like to do sometimes) Then Excalibur rocked the M.I.C. and explained that he was fed up with Super Dragon’s ego and all of the oppression brought about by it (He actually used much harsher terms than that… but this is a family preview) He also related the fact that this issue wasn’t with Disco Machine, but solely with Super Dragon. And Disco was free to join them if he so pleased…

After this Super Dragon and Disco Machine hit the ring (really hard… with their heads) and just like that this match was on like Donkey K… umm too 90’s… let’s just say it was on like another random video game character… This intense hate and rasberry filled contest, saw both teams tear each other limb from limb. As the bout winded down. Disco (who was on the business end of a Prison grade ass kicking for the majority of the contest) had things going this way with Excalibur. But Super Dragon, so eager to vent his rage on the opposition… demanded Disco Machine tag out. Only Disco ignored the request and kept piling on the punishment. Disco’s offensive advantage proved fleeting as he and Excalibur both found themselves flat on the canvas. The furious Super Dragon entered the ring and forcibly dragged Disco to the corner and layed in a shot for good measure. Super Dragon was the proverbial house of fire, as he ripped EX a new one and spiked his former friend with the Psycho Driver for the sure pinfall… when Disco Machine broke up the fall! (He’d obliviously came around to Excalibur’s way of thinking, after he had just experienced Super Dragon egomaniacal ways first hand) After confronting Super Dragon, Disco dropped him with the Disco Bomb. This left Dragon open for TWO package piledrivers from Steen. Which was more than enough for the pinfall.

Afterward the beat down continued, as the NEW SBS unit of Kevin Steen, Excalibur and Disco Machine destroyed SD. Just when it appeared all was lost… EL GENERICO AND HUMAN TORNADO rushed to ringside and cleared the ring!

Then Excalibur and Kevin Steen mentioned some words, to Generico and Tornado.. umm which I’m really sick of hearing about. Let’s just say they reverted to 1970’s pro wrestlers and called them “scum sucking dogs”

So the stage was set, as these six combatants will collide in an elimination 6-man grudge match! Tensions are at an all high, will The SBS accomplish their mission of removing Super Dragon from PWG for good? Or will the wrath of Super Dragon once again prevail and put this these suckas in line?

Find out July 9th!

Past History: Steen and SD have met 5 times total, Steen has met Generico a billion times, Excalibur has met El Generico twice in CZW, faced Human Tornado once in a tag match at “Uncanny X-mas” and faced SD a myriad of times, Disco has had a few other tags against Human Tornado in past, and has a lot of history with Super Dragon (including two pinfall victories over him in other promotions)

PWG Records: Kevin Steen is 4-5 overall, Excalibur is 10-12 overall, Disco Machine is 7-15 overall. Super Dragon is 24-9 overall, El Generico is 3-5 overall and Human Tornado is 2-10 overall.

Thoughts: Ah the old elimination tag match. How I love thee… You know over the years the SoCal scene has experienced some classic elimination tags. For instance, the RevPro Match of the year for 2002 "Don't Call it a Comeback" Super Dragon/Disco Machine/Excalibur Vs. Mr. Excitement/TARO/Rising Son, RevPro's "Pride of the mask 3" 6-man, The “88 Miles Per Hour” 10 man main event among other.

IMO this one will easily continue that great tradition. Everyone involved matches up extremely well… we’ve all witnessed what Steen can do in there with El Generico and Super Dragon (more on that later) As well as what Super Dragon can produce with his former partners. Plus when the Human Tornado is involved in a match up… you never can know what to expect! I shudder to think of a Steen-Tornado exchange.

Match dynamic itself is very interesting. It’s a mirror match in some respects, with Disco and Excalibur recreating SBS with a new “Super Dragon” in Kevin Steen. With SD recreating the SBS with El Generico and Tornado (or Generic Tornado as I call them) as the new and improved(?) Excalibur and Disco Machine.

I guess what I am really trying to say. is.... WHY WAS JOAN OF ARCADIA canceled? SO MUCH POTENTIAL! I could listen to Joan talk to god all day. Oh and also this will be a SUPER MEGA ULTRA MEGA (Did I say mega already?) fun match... that shouldn't be missed!

Prediction: Kevin Steen, Excalibur and Disco Machine.

PWG CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

AJ Styles © Vs. Mystery Opponent

Probably the biggest question of this entire weekend is “Who the heck is AJ’s mystery opponent going to be?” Well like you, I haven’t a clue as to who it is. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night (actually I just slept in the alley behind one… that still counts right?) so that gives me the authority to run down some potential suspects!

Now it’s a big wrestling weekend elsewhere in the US, with promotions like CZW, IWS, IWA: MS and others all are running big shows as well… so that limits the potential candidates considerably.

But let’s see who is left:

American Dragon: He seems a likely suspect don’t you think? But count him out, as he’s actually booked in England this weekend. Beside he’s retired! (wink wink)

Milano Collection AT: A top Japanese talent who is in the US with TWA in Texas right now. SO it IS possible… but probably not likely. He’s a hell of a wrestler and would produce a classic with AJ.

Bobby Quance: He’s in the Navy for some 6 years. But what would stop this sentimental PWG favorite from making one appearance?

Hardkore Kid: Recently released from the WWE (who TOTALLY gave him a fair shake) could he be making his big return to PWG against AJ Styles?

An NWA:TNA regular perhaps? PWG has gone TNA crazy lately... so it's highly possible. I’ve heard names like Elix Skipper, Abyss, X-Pac and Erik Watts thrown around. I personally hope this isn't the case. I’m not a fan of the majority of TNA’s roster at all. But I know some of PWG’s newer fans would probably get a kick out it. But who cares about them… it’s all about ME! ME! ME!

An Ex-WWE talent? Sure, bring on AJ Vs. the Honky Tonk Man! Hmm really it’d be great if they swing someone like a Rhino or someone else with some actual talent.

Adam Pearce: I’m a huge fan of Pearce’s work. He’s one of the best heels in wrestling right now. But returning to PWG would sort of retroactively taint the legacy of the “Loser Leaves Town” match last year. I’d like to have PWG known as a promotion that live up to their stipulations.

Someone already on the card perhaps?

So who will be? Why Jardi Frantz of course. Why even ask? Seriously… whoever it may be… I’d expect them to be real high quality competition for AJ Styles. PWG has never been a promotion that let it’s fans down… and I wouldn’t expect them to start now!

Also appearing at Night One will be: "Technical Wizard" Joey Ryan, Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre,) Davey Richards, HookGun (Hook Bomberry & Top Gun Talwar,) PWG Commissioner "SoCalVal" Valerie Wyndham, and more!

I’d really like to see them add Davey Richards Vs. Joey Ryan and Los Luchas Vs. HookGun. Both of those would be a lot of fun.

End Part 1…..

Now’s let’s the do the little Trivia thing,

Coming up with Semi-difficult PWG trivia questions is kinda tough. So here are three quick ones that longtime PWG fans should have no trouble with at all, you “TNA bandwagon jumpers” may have a problem with it though:

1. Name all the wrestlers that have competed on every PWG show to date.

2. How many wrestlers who’ve appeared in PWG, have also appeared in ECW?

3. Which of the following 5 matches was NEVER announced for a PWG Show: 1. Bobby Quance Vs. Joey Ryan 2. Adam Pearce Vs. B-Boy 3. American Dragon Vs. Ricky Reyes 4. Disco Machine/Excalibur Vs. Colt Cabana/B-Boy 5. Super Dragon Vs. Josh Prohibition

NIGHT 2~!

"The Pinoy Boy" TJ Perkins vs. Davey Richards

Back Story: At All Star Weekend Night Two, PUMA defeated Richards as a part of a 4-way. Later that month the two met again on Richard’s home turf of ECCW in Canada… where PUMA again defeated Richards in a singles match as part of the Pacific Cup Tournament.

Two months later at “Guitarmaggedon” the two met again, this time as a part of a 3-way dance also involving the Human Tornado. Once again, PUMA was able to score a pinfall over Richards. Frustrated with his inability to defeat PUMA…Richards returned to ring side later in the match and got some payback on PUMA with the ultimate disrespect to any masked competitor…HE REMOVED his prized mask! (Bestowed upon him by the Aztec Indians giving him all the powers of the PUMA MAN) and much to everyone’s shock… it was…. THE SAME GUY IT WAS THE LAST TIME HE WAS UNMASKED!.

Now on July 10th, the now mask less TJ Perkins seeks retribution Davey Richards! BEWARE THE PUMA Mr. Richards.

Past History: Met in the opening 4-way at All Star Weekend Night 2, and the Guitarmageddon 3-way. Plus a singles match in the NWA ECCW Pacific Cup Tournament.

PWG Records: PUMA/Pinoi/Y Boy/TJ Perkins is 13-5 Overall (10-1 in One on One matches) Davey Richards is 1-2 (with both defeats coming at the hands of PUMA)

Thoughts: PUMA has become more highly decorated than Elton John’s bathroom in the past year, making it to the finals of both the Super 8 and ECCW Pacific Tournaments, wrestling on the East Coast for the “Ring of Honor” and FIP promotions, amongst several stints in New Japan.. as well as putting together one of the most impressive singles records in PWG.

Davey Richards on the other hand has been a real shot in the arm for the SoCal scene. First making his name in the “Pro Wrestling WAR” promotion (where he had several acclaimed match with the likes of Chuck Mercury, Hook Bomberry and Super Dragon) Before he finally made his way to PWG in April… where he wasted no time in impressing the PWG faithful by hitting a jaw dropping Shooting Star Press to score a fall over Excalibur in the opening contest of the All Star Weekend. No doubt in anyone mind that Richards has a bright future ahead of him, and is one of the prospects in wrestling today.

So what happens when you mix, two of the top young stars in wrestling today, each with something to prove? Simple, you get a hell of a match. And the match I’m awarding my pick for the sleeper match of the weekend.

Prediction: Davey Richards

Mr. Excitement vs. "Technical Wizard" Joey Ryan

Back story: At “Jason Takes PWG” Mr. Excitement came out of retirement for the 3rd time and teamed with Disco Machine to take on Arrogance w/Joey Ryan. During which Joey Ryan interjected and was caught with an EXPLODAH!!!! into the corner at the hands of Mr. Excitement. But the distraction was enough to buy Arrogance enough time to score the victory.

At Guitarmaggedon! Joey Ryan reversed his curse by defeating Alex Shelley via the aid of the ropes in an outstanding contest. But later in the evening returned to the ring and issued an challenge to Mr. Excitement. Citing the Jason Takes PWG incident and the fact that they've never had a one on one contest as reasons for the challenge. After a verbal exchange between the two, Mr. Excitement agreed to come out of retirement (AGAIN) to answer Joey's challenge.

And on July 10th, the match is signed, sealed and delivered.. as Joey Ryan will take on Mr. Excitement for the first time ever!

Past History: While they've never had a One on One match, they do have some history:

Joey Ryan, Mr. Excitement & Cyberspace Vs. Excalibur, Disco Machine & Jason Allgood - CCPW

Joey Ryan/Scott Lost Vs. Mr. Excitement/Rising Son – RevPro 10/23/02

Joey Ryan Vs. Mr. Excitement Vs. Hook Bomberry Vs. TARO – RevPro 02/08/03

Joey Ryan and Scott Lost Vs. Mr. Excitement/Angel – RevPro 05/25/03

Joey Ryan, Scott Lost & Super Dragon (that's some team eh?) Vs. Mr. Excitement, Angel & TARO – RevPro 06/14/03

PWG Records: Joey Ryan is 11-16 overall, Mr. Excitement is 1-2 overall

More of Jay Doring's thoughts: In most indy feds, fan's get in a ti a zzy when a major "name" is announced, but in the end it's the workhorse locals who carry the promotion and earn its core fanbase. For years, there were no better homegrown talent (barring that guy in the funny mask) than two men: Joey Ryan and Mr. Excitement. Now, at PWG's Bicentennial Birthday Bash, they face off in a singles match for the first time ever.

Mr. Excitement, for newer fans not fully aware of who he is, was a true impact player in California. A founding father in Revolution Pro, he won the 2002 RevJ tournament and had a major feud with Super Dragon, where unlike Joey, he actually WON once in a while. He also toured Japan's Osaka Pro Wrestling, along with Disco Machine last year. However, he was in retirement when PWG took off, and he's looking to re-earn his fame with a win over top player Ryan.

For Joey, Mr. Excitement represents a major psychological. As stated, Excitement has beaten Super Dragon several times, something Joey has only done decisively once (at the Bad Ass Mother 3000). Joey, on his road to the the title, NEEDS to know he can beat top-tier competition, and that's Mr. Excitement. As he did against Alex Shelley, I fully expect Joey to pull out all sorts of chicanery to pick up a much-needed victory.

Prediction: Joey Ryan

Arrogance (Chris Bosh & Scott Lost) vs. Chris Sabin & Petey Williams

Back Story: At PWG’s All Star Weekend, Arrogance had their first run in with Sabin and Williams. As Lost was on the receiving end of Petey Williams’ Canadian Destroyer in the aftermath of a 6 man tag. The following night, Williams defeated Arrogance's running buddy, Joey Ryan.

And Frankie Kazarian and Chris Sabin w/ Petey Willams at ringside set out to accomplish Kazarian's goal of ridding PWG of the Arrogance monster he had created back in September (see the "Ernest" preview for that story) and Kazarian/Sabin looked have to the match won when Williams snuck in and planted Bosh with the Destoryer... but Lost pulled the ref out of the ring before he could count to 3! Soon after Lost countered Kazarian's victory roll in Owen Hart like fashion to finally pull out the victory over their former leader.

On July 10th, Frankie Kazarian's legacy lives on... as Chris Sabin and Petey Williams return to do his bidding and attempt to finish what Frankie started by taking out Arrogance once and for all!

Past History: Arrogance Vs. Chris Sabin/Frankie Kazarian - ASW Night 2.

PWG Records: Scott Lost is 19-9 overall & Chris Bosh is 14-10 overall, 9-0 as a duo, Chris Sabin is 1-2 overall, Petey Williams is 1-1 overall.

Jay Doring’s Thoughts: "The Model" Rick Martel was one of my favorite midcard characters back in the golden era of the WWF. The prototype for such luminaries as Mark Jindrak and Chris Masters, Martel would flaunt his Carlito-like "Cool" with a big button that said "Yes, I Am a Model" and sprayed "Arrogance" perfume in people's faces. And I'm sure that up there in heaven, Tag teaming with Road Warrior Hawk until Animal makes his debut, he is proud that such a stellar tag team has named themselves after his fragrance

Paul Newberry: Umm Jay… Martel isn’t dead…

Jay: What do you mean he isn't dead? Ok then… last time I read Pro Wrestling Illustrated.

Newberry: Yeah, that's something most people said when they were 9.

Jay: Hey, I like the pictures....

Where was I? Oh yeah...

"The Professional" Scott Lost and "Goodwill Ambassador" Chris Bosh have had a record-setting joyride with the PWG tag team titles (not hard since the previous record for defenses was "1") and gotten past every tag team in SoCal, including the Havana Pitbulls and the SoCal Dream Team of B-Boy and Super Dragon. Now they face Team TNA in the form of "Ontarian Wrecker" Petey Williams and Chris Sabin. Arrogance have already defeated a combo from TNA at All Star Weekend Night 2, when Sabin teamed up with Frankie Kazarian. However, Kazarian probably had his mind on whether he should nail Angel Williams or Alexis Laree first while in OVW, and thus he and the other guy named "The Future" fell to the champs.

This entire match, in my mind, is predicated (oooh, look at the big word I used!) on the outcome of their tag title match on the first night. If they win, Arrogance add another notch to their tag team bedpost (and yes, I phrased it that way on purpose.) If they lose to the Aerial Express, I see some sort of miscommunication slipup that leads to a defeat for Lost and Bosh. I see the second instance happening, and the future will look uncertain for the best tag team in PWG history. Plus, CANADIAN DESTROYER~!~!~!

Winners: Petey/Sabin

My Prediction: Arrogance have to take this one.

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. James Gibson

Back Story: At “Jason Takes PWG” AJ Styles fresh off doing the impossible at PWG’s All Star Weekend went title for title with long time rival Christopher Daniels. With so much on the line, and neither man wanting to make a costly error… engaged in a game of human chess for the full 60 minute time limit. AJ Styles wanting to be a fighting champion, challenged Daniels to go 5 more minutes… But the cowardly/wise/tired/funky Christopher Daniels declined the offer, stating that the fans didn’t deserve 5 more minutes of Christopher Daniels. Although the match was ruled a draw, AJ took home the moral victory and the admiration of the fans.

The very next month at "Guitarmageddon" AJ Styles in the grand tradition of PWG champions past put the title on the line one of the cream of the Indy crop as he faced Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion James Gibson for the first time ever. The match was everything it was billed as and more, as the two southern superstars put on a wrestling clinic the likes of which isn’t seen very often in today’s wrestling circles. In the end, AJ Styles defeated cunning Gibson with the Styles Clash to successfully defend the PWG title.

Now assuming he makes it past whomever his mystery challenger on Night 1 happens to be, AJ will now have to defend his PWG title against BOTH Christopher Daniels and James Gibson! But past PWG History in Three and Four way Dances isn’t on his side… as he’s been unsuccessful in two previously.

On July 10th, AJ Styles faces his most daunting challenge in PWG to date! When the smoke is cleared and the blood and entrails are mopped up… who will earn the right to be called… champion? (umm assuming it’s for the title of course! =)

Past History: AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels have met 43 billion times around the world in recent years. Here’s just a sampling of their past 3-way dances:

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Frankie Kazarian – PWG

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels Vs Chris Sabin – IWC

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels Vs Homicide – IWC

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels Vs Chris Sabin – MXPW

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels Vs CM Punk -IWC

AJ Styles and Gibson have now met 3 times, once in a WCW tag, once at Guitarmageddon and again last month in another promotion I’m forgetting the name of. This appears to be Gibson and Daniels first ever meeting.

PWG Records: AJ Styles is 5-2-1 overall (0-2 in 3 and 4 way dances) Christopher Daniels is 9-7-1 overall, James Gibson is 1-1.

Jay Doring Brand Match Thoughts: In my years on this Earth, I have witnessed three great three-way dances.

Christopher Daniels, American Dragon and Low Ki at ROH's first-ever

show.

Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam and Steve Austin at No Mercy 2001

Jay Doring, his girlfriend and her trusting virgin cousin in his dreams.

Now, PWG is poised to present fantastic 3way dance #4, by pitting PWG champion AJ Styles, Chris Daniels and FORMER WWE CHAMPION Jamie Noble against each other for the most valued prize in Southern California.

There's really not much I can say about this other than the fact that it will be fantastic. Daniels and AJ are always a privilege to watch together- the Daniels/AJ match I saw in England was one of my favorite matches and favorite live atmospheres ever. Throw in Redneck Messiah Jamie Noble, still riding high after his win over American Dragon and taking AJ to the limit, and a match can only improve. As for who wins? AJ and Daniels are of course super-familiar with each other, and it's a tossup every time who wins. But then again, James Gibson might suddenly remember he's a FORMER WWE CHAMPION, think to himself, "who are these chumps?" and take them both out in 15 seconds. My guess is that doesn't

happen though, and AJ retains (if he even holds it by Sunday) once again by the skin of his teeth

Prediction: AJ Styles

Number One Contenders Grudge Match

"Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen vs. Super Dragon

Back Story:

December 2004… at Combat Zone Wrestling’s Cage of Death 6, Super Dragon and Kevin Steen met for the first time as Super Dragon and Excalibur took on Kevin Steen and El Generico. It didn’t take long for the two bulls to lock horns, exchanging a vicious series of strikes with neither man getting the better of the other. But nothing was settled that night, as SD finally took the fall after pinning El Generico. And the world was left to ponder the possibilities of a Super Dragon vs. Kevin Steen singles match and what would happen if the kids from the Goonies teamed up with the kids from The Outsiders.

Fast forward to March 2005, Super Dragon was supposed to meet the “master of the roll up” Tony Stradlin for the PWG title. But when Stradlin was forced to pull off the show… a replacement was needed. PWG’s solution? Give the winner of the Kevin Steen vs. AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. El Generico match, the shot that night!

And at "The Ernest P. Worrell Memorial" Kevin Steen managed to survive the grueling fatal 4-way after he scored a pinfall on an unconscious El Generico. With this victory Steen was finally granted an opportunity and Super Dragon and the PWG Title later that night. When it came time for the match, Steen wasted no time in attacking Super Dragon from behind in the aisle way. Steen brought the fight to the Dragon, and despite being involved in a 20 plus minute match earlier in the show, Steen gave Super Dragon his toughest challenge as champion to date, nearly coming away with the title on several occasions and even mocking him by using his own curb stomp against him (I would say “No one does that to Super Dragon” but really everyone does that to Super Dragon lately) Kevin Steen finally looked to have finished off Dragon after spiking him with his patented and legally trademarked “Package Piledriver” but even that wasn’t enough to down the Dragon! “If that one didn’t work, I’ve got one that will” Steen proclaimed as he hoisted Dragon up for the PSYCHO DRIVER! But the wily Super Dragon escaped and gave Steen a message of his own which was “Prepare to meet Kali... IN HELL!” as he managed to planted Steen with his own PACKAGE PILEDRIVER to score the pinfall. Just barely escaping with the PWG title. But the question had to be asked, would Super Dragon have been able to defeat a fresh Kevin Steen? And just what is the deal with Apple Jacks? They don’t even taste like real Apples.

The next month at PWG’s All Star Weekend Night One, Super Dragon and Kevin Steen squared in again, this time in a 3-way also involving El Generico. Things again started off with another vicious exchange of forearms, as the two shoved Generico out of the way so they could continue the assault. Later in the match Steen plants Generico with the Package Piledriver and again nearly has the title within his grasp… but somehow Super Dragon recovers and breaks up the fall. Sending Steen to the floor and taking him out with the “tope con HELLO” then returning to the ring and taking out Generico for the victory. Once again after the smoke was clear… nothing was settled between these two proud warriors of the squared circle (too cheesy?)

Just as it looked like this issue would be put on the back burner, it took a very strange twist. As it as “Jason Takes PWG” Kevin Steen revealed himself to be the 2nd Super Dragon that had been tormenting Super Dragon since December of 2004 (the week after their first CZW meeting) and had aligned himself with SD’s former best friend, Excalibur. Suddenly… the puzzle pieces were beginning to fit! Steen and Excalibur were determined to destroy Super Dragon once and for all, as Excalibur and Steen propped up a table in the corner… and Excalibur just obliterates Super Dragon with a Tiger Driver 98 though the table, which gets the pinfall. Steen had cost Dragon the match! But before Steen and Excalibur could finish the job, DISCO MACHINE ran in and chased them away… But had the damage had already been done?

The next night, at CZW’s Best of the Best 5, Steen and SD had yet another run in, this time in a 4-way with B-Boy and Mike Quackenbush. During which Steen scored his first pinfall on Super Dragon after a package piledriver.

Back at the ranch, at Guitarmageddon, Super Dragon and Disco Machine were set to take on Kevin Steen and Excalibur. Before the match started, Steen mentioned that he had entered PWG for two reasons… 1. To take out Super Dragon and take his spot in PWG 2. To win the PWG title. And after he took Dragon out, he was coming for the title. During the bout, SD and Steen again unleashed their fury on one in another, but in the end… after having a falling out with partner, Disco Machine…. Super Dragon was hit with not one but TWO package piledrivers… as Steen once again pinned Super Dragon.

And we were left to wonder? Does “Mr. Wrestling” have Super Dragon’s number? And if so what measures would Super Dragon take to change his number, and prevent unwanted calls from Mr. Steen asking him to upgrade his long distance plan?

The months of anticipation are at an end, as Super Dragon will face a man who doesn’t want to merely defeat him… but literally destroy him and end his career. Super Dragon has always managed to thrive in the face of adversity… but can even he to able withstand the onslaught of Kevin Steen? Who’ll be at full strength this time around (and with no El Generico around to take the pinfall either)

July 10th, Steen Vs Dragon II, A battle of epic proportions…. Who will survive?

Past History: Have faced off 5 times in both PWG and CZW (6 times by Sunday)

PWG Records: Kevin Steen is 4-5 overall, Super Dragon is 24-9 overall

Thoughts: I love this angle, reminds of me the 1987 not so classic “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace” Where Lex Luthor (Excalibur) creates Superman’s ultimate nemesis, The Nuclear Man (Kevin Steen) in order to dispose of Superman (Super Dragon) for good. But will Super Dragon be able to recover and throw the Nuclear Man into the sun? Well that’s what we’ll find out here.

Of course both men are infamous for their near perfect fluentity in the universal language of violence. And we’ve seen what these two can do against each other in the past. So I don't think match quality is in question here. Get ready for violence, the likes of which only Super Dragon can deliever!

Prediction: Kevin Steen

PLUS:

Ricky Reyes vs. Mystery Opponent number 2 (said to be different than the night 1 surprise)

Quick Thoughts: Who will it be? My Magic 8-Ball tells me… “Ask Again Later” Damn it said the same thing when I asked if I could ask another question. Could it be someone from Reyes’ past? Regardless, this could very well be Reyes’ last match in PWG for a while. So let’s give him the send off he deserves. He’s a great talent, that’s incredibly underated but some people “in the know”

I’ll never forget the time I saw Ricky Reyes eating in the Food Court at the Ontario Mills Mall in 2004… I was like “Holy crap, that dude looks like Ricky Reyes! CRAP that IS Ricky Reyes!” Good times indeed… we’ll miss ya Ricky.

PLUS: El Generico, Human Tornado, SBS (Disco Machine & Excalibur,) Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre,) HookGun (Hook Bomberry & Top Gun Talwar,) PWG Commissioner "SoCalVal" Valerie Wyndham, and more (Will whomever the Night One surprise is appear on Night 2? Unlike Stevie Wonder… we shall see…)

FINAL THOUGHTS: I’d expect this to be a real watershed weekend in PWG history. This is an event that will forever change America’s social attitudes and just generally make the world of better place for human kind as whole.

Ok, maybe not… but if you are a fan a professional wrestling, you owe to the children to check this one out. Because after all the children are our future! And what is the world without a future? Not a place I’d like to be, I’ll tell you that!

Is this making any sense? Yeah didn’t think so…. But do attend this show! Makes a fantastic late Christmas gift!

If you can’t attend than be sure to checkout http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com and buy one of PWG's many excellent DVDs!!! Including the new released

Guitarmageddon! They are all worth buying... I'd recommend them in order to truly follow the PWG saga as it unfolds! It’s like Shakespeare with slightly more Chuck Mercury.

And so ends PWG preview #22. Wow I really need a break from these things…. I mean come one who the hell else “unofficially” does previews for a promotions every show? Something is clearly wrong with me.

Anyway, thank you for reading! And thanks to PWG for two fantastic years! Here’s too many more!
