Smackdown VS Raw 2006

Recommended Posts

I knew you would Andrew, because you have in the past and you care about games without being totally obsessive about it.

Elitist yes, but not obsessive. :)

By the way, if you take the On The Top Rope running turnbuckle move and time it right, you can properly execute the flying body press pin. I had to learn it when doing my Ricky Steamboat CAW.

Thank you. :)

It's also virtually the only feasible way to pull off the Molly Go Round and other standing/stunned top rope moves. However, I don't really remember her ever setting it up that way. I guess hit detection would be way too spotty if you could do it whenever an opponent was standing.

Running moves give me lots of problems too. Running grapples are very picky--most of time you dive and land on the ground. Stuff like flying elbows have to be started early, giving opponents time to sidestep out of the way easily. Running specials--like the Gore--can whiff pretty easily. It's funny to see it totally miss, though. I whiffed on the Gore before and got totally plastered in the face with a steel chair before.

^Funny spot like that happened in HCTP, was playing a triple threat with a CAW who's special was the gore, against Rhino and Richards, I go to gore Richards and miss, right into a gore from Rhino. Timing couldn't of been more perfect.

On an unrelated note, I really wish they get rid of the weapons moving when you land on them crap. It should do more damage, make a sound, and bend or break too. The whole magic, floating chair crap needs to go.

Heheh, how'd you sell it? Was he just getting up, or did it hit you while you were still running and in the missed animation?

Using weapons as something to throw people onto is something that nobody seems to have gotten worked out. Weapon grapples are nice (Van Daminator, Taker's chair-assisted throat crusher, DDT onto chair), but still aren't quite the same. A better use of that is something I've been hoping for every since No Mercy. Suplexing somebody onto the stairs will make noises, but I don't think it does any extra damage, and they're still laying through a solid object.

The SD games took a huge step forward with the use of tables, though. I have few complaints about it other than how set-up and use of them is way too fast.

With the way SvR is and people pop up after major damaging moves and with some finishers, you could never set up a table in a corner.

IGN Wrestler of the day: Rob Conway

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/650/650046p1.html

Looks like he is one half of the Tag Champs here, yet he does have his new theme song/entrance video.

Well its easy to change the music and videos, but I suppose it would be hard for them to animate the new conway with new hair and attire. Plus the vocieovers have been done already (lillians annoucements for example) One thing, in that entrance, Lillian sounded really ehtused and much like she does on TV

Is it just me or does Conway have a really generic entrance? That doesn't even look like his La Rez entrance,.

But I must admit , the face is dead on

oh well at least we got to hear his new song clearly

"Unlike you, I've ben around the world, and unlike you I've been with many girls"

LMAO

He even has the dead silence the real Conway enters to.

That said, I don't know about anyone else, but if they're gonna half ass it with an old look/new entrance, I'd rather they just include the old entrance as well. Well, maybe all the La Resistance stuff will be available in edit mode.

I run into that a lot with my Lex Luger CAW, as I gave him the running forearm as a finisher. Once you get the timing down, running moves are easy to execute. Of course on the harder levels you run the risk of getting countered a lot.

As for the Yakuza Kick (which I use with my Samoa Joe CAW), you have to be directly across from your opponent when you do it, and you will hit it most of the time. That goes all the way back to NJPW for the PS1, when using Chono.

Running grapples are better executed off of a grapple or strike counter. I rarely use them off of the ropes, because positioning can be an issue.

I personally have no problem hitting it, I just hate the look of it. The animation is ugly and as I said, there's no sense of impact behind it, like there is with, say, some of the Big Boot options. It just seems weak. The fact that it was the same way back on the PS1 (not that I ever played Toukon Retsuden, just the SD games) is part of the problem.

IGN Wrestler of the day: Christy Hemme

Pretty boring.. but at least it's a look at a new character I suppose.

Hey at least they have her real entrance music. WWE edits that off the dvds all the time. The entrance looks pretty accurate as well, but that model doesnt look too much like the real Christy. it also had dead silence as well, HA THE GAME HAS SMARK CROWD MEMBERS!!!

Actually in the post match celebration there also was no theme music playing. perhaps all the sound effects havent been properly put together yet. Plus when Christy was doing her finisher, you hear Lillian's voice screaming "Introducing, introducing, intro..."

Can't watch videos from work - does that mean that the Hives have a tune in this game? Sweet!

2nd video features a good look at the re-animated Dragon Whip.

wheres the cape in the intro?

anyhow again I heard lillian yelling "intoducing" during the finisher animation. so now hurricane has a regular shining wizard, and a finisher one apprantly, I guess the hurri chokeslam is no more.

Notes of interest: Has Generic theme song, New Swinging DDT and first look at "Joy" I guess

That's like the 3rd year in a row that a Smackdown game couldn't get Stacy Keibler's "Legs" theme by Kid Rock. Not that I find that important, and I don't like Kid Rock anyway, but it's almost like Yukes keeps being lazy on certain things.

I hope the "introducing" glitch is fixed before the game comes out, or people aren't going to want to buy a game that plays like a beta version.

I'll bet it more along the lines that Kid Rock wanted a more money for game licensing, and got stoned.

It has nothing to do with Yukes. It has everything to do with WWE not having licsensing deals to use it in VIDEO GAMES and only on Television, or what Rendclaw said.

Last night, I actually found out on another board that Kid Rock claims to "own the rights" to the song and won't hand it over to WWE for the 3rd year in a row for Smackdown video games.

I'm aware that WWE is responsible for some of the themes not being in video games and only on TV, though. It's just that Yukes seems lazy with so many things in the Smackdown video games that it's hard to tell who's responsible.
