Si82 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 http://www.empireonline.co.uk/site/news/Ne...p?news_id=16934 Chow Yun-Fat To Join Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 He'll play a notorious pirate. Didn't see that one coming. 07 July 2005 Fans of Pirates Of The Caribbean may be pleased to know that the exotically-located back-to-back shoot of Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 and 3 – the sequels to 2003’s surprise blockbuster smash – is currently on hiatus, to allow director Gore Verbinski time to kick off post-production on the first sequel, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. They may be further pleased to know that Empire has just broken the world record for mentioning the phrase, Pirates Of The Caribbean, in a single paragraph. Anyway, as hiatuses go, though, it’s been quite productive, first allowing one lucky no-talent scum hack Empire writer to head off to the Bahamas recently to chinwag with star Johnny Depp (not that we’re jealous or anything), but which has also brought confirmation of Chow Yun-fat’s role in Pirates 3. Yun-fat, the Godlike star of such Cantonese/Chinese action classics as Hard Boiled, The Killer and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and English-language action turkeys that totally waste his sublime talents (The Replacement Killers, Bullet Proof Monk, The Corruptor), had been linked with Pirates 3 ages ago, but today finally saw his participation firmed up. He’ll play a major role, apparently, in the second and as yet-untitled sequel, as notorious pirate, Captain Sao Feng. We could speculate on whether he’ll be a good guy or a villain (woman’s intuition tells us it’s the latter), but plot-wise, lips are very sealed on the two Pirates follow-ups. We do know this. Pirates 2 will see all the old gang – Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner, Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann, Jonathan Pryce’s thingummy and Jack Davenport’s character whose name we really should know but can’t be arsed checking on the IMDB – return for more jolly japes and pieces of eight. With no Geoffrey Rush this time to perform villainous duties, Bill Nighy has been drafted in as the legendary Davy Jones, while Stellan Skarsgard and the lovely and talented Naomie Harris-Hewitt are also new additions to the roster. One of the few plot inklings we’ve had is that Will Turner may be tempted to the nautical version of the Dark Side – perhaps Yun-fat has something to do with this? Who knows? (actually, if anyone does, do let us know. We usually don’t appeal for plot info or spies or anything, but it seems to work for that ginger fella) Perhaps more news will leak out when Verbinski and the gang reconvene for more shooting next month in LA, before heading back to the Caribbean. Ach, it’s a tough life. I'm a Chow Yun-Fat fan so I'm really pleased to hear this, particually considering this is his first film in a few years.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2005 In theory isn't being a pirate alone sort of like the dark side? I would assume this is taking place around the South China Seas where there have actually been some pirates. Having Chow Yun Fat show up in the Caribbean would be a little odd.
