Guest jumpingbombangel Report post Posted July 13, 2005 This is UPN's freaking fault. They fucked up by not cutting it. They have realised that they have cocked up big time and now are trying to shift the blame onto the WWE. Ass monkeys. Vince just take SD elsewhere. WWE wrote the shit in the first place, they created the Hassan character. You dont need another actual terrorist attack to let you know that the whole thing sucks ass. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The WWE will never win with this one. Hassan is never going to be even a sympathetic "tweener" type of heel because of his "plight in America," because no one who watches wrestling gives a damn about what the average Arab-American goes through in America 2005. The wrestling audience collectively knows that we are at war with people that look like him, and that's all they need to know to boo him. If the WWE is trying to use this angle to create sympathy towards what Arab-Americans face in the US...well...LOL, then, because it ain't working. To what end are they trying to reach here? bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2005 ^ they never were trying to do anything of the sort, despite the attempts at retroactive depth/subtext some fans tried to inject into it to find some redeeming value. he was always another 'evil foreign heel', only this time it was even more tasteless than in the past because of real world events of 9/11, afghanistan, london, etc.
Just John 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2005 The clip of that promo is on wwe.com. Hassan pretty much pointed out everything we thought he would. The best part is two kids holding a "Get the HELL out of America Hassan" sign, which pretty much backs up everything he says. It fits his character quite well. RepoMan 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2005 Pepole left of center watch wrestling too. If they left Hassan as a proud Arab Ameican dealing w/ post 9-11 America I think he could have gotten over as a face with up 25% of the crowd. Most fans would have booed him and see him as an evil forgeiner while some of the more reflective crowd could have enjoyed the man vs. society aspect. If they were smart about it Hassan could have worked at two different levels for different pepole. The current WWE spin and Hassan's speach make me think it's back on the right track. Except for the fact that while he made incredibly GOOD points during the promo they had on Velocity, the crowd was just quiet, and then eventually went into fits of U-S-A! chants. I seriously doubt the typical crowd will ever eventually turn him face off "understanding" his plight, or whatever. I can see NY and Canadian crowds, much like the crowd in Cali I think it was, that cheered him when he came out, in his 2nd week on SD I think it was, givin him face reactions. But no matter how true and good his points are, it doesn't ever really seem like the crowd is actually LISTENING, just waiting for the next break in his words to chant USA. This angle is pointless and dumb because the fans just don't and won't even try to understand that the guy has a good point. To them, he's just a whiny Arab-American bitch, and to them, it REALLY looked like he was using terrorism in the gimmick. That's just the average wrestling crowd, and it's just too bad you all who go along with this bullshit just happen to be smart enough to "get it," as the Vince says.
