CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2005 Put the FF back on every leg, and eliminate the Yield, which is stupid. I think they dumbed the clues down when the started hand picking telegenic people who weren't very bright to be on the show. Can you imagine Brandon and Nicole from Season 5 racing with Season 1-type clues? They may not have made it out of JFK.

The Yield is stupid only because people don't use it properly. It's early in the game, you know that there's 1 or 2 teams behind you - use the fricking Yield!! MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2005 Here's some depressing news about Amazing Race : Family Edition- According to online reports and some published stories, the cycle of ``The Amazing Race'' that begins Sept. 27 is, at best, disappointing and, at worst, a mess. The producers decided to do something different with the show in its eighth go-round and came up with ``The Amazing Race: Family Edition,'' which features teams with four members of the same family. Biggest problem: With younger kids involved, the race was limited in terms of distances and where it went. As a result, ``The Amazing Race'' apparently never wandered outside the Americas, spending much of its time in the States and Canada. (Huntsville, Ala., and Niagara Falls, N.Y., are perfectly nice places, but in terms of appeal, they don't compete with Kenya and Singapore.) I don't know how much stock to put in some of the reports, but I fear the worst. When I recently asked two CBS executives about the coming ``Race'' season, both rolled their eyes and quickly changed the subject. That's not a good sign. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2005 Yikes. That doesn't sound promising. Oh well...they fucked up Survivor with the god-awful Vanuatu season, and they came back super-strong with Palau. Hopefully, TAR will come back with a vengeance for season 9, or there will be hell to pay.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2005 Shocking that involving kids would make the show less entertaining. That being said, if they did a completly separate version (a la Trading Spaces: Family) with an adult paired with a kid, I'd have no problem with that. KingPK 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Man, a big FUCK YOU to Comcast for cutting into the last hour of the finale tonight for some bullshit public access show with three jackoffs talking Massachusetts politics. Thankfully it was only a half hour so I was able to see who won. I just wish Colin would have thrown a haymaker at Chip at the finish line.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 That sucks. Season 5 peaked, though, with Colin vs. the Ox. Undecided about rewatching season 6...it was easily the worst season to date (although I expect that won't be true for long). Lori and Bolo were fun to watch, though. And the boob quotient was pretty high.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Yeah, we'll have to put up a thread for "The Amazing Race: How to ruin an Emmy winning show" at some point, I guess. On the plus side, predicting who wins may be a bit easier. I mean, do you really expect a team with two preteens to go far?

Him and the Ox, with his girlfriend making sarcastic comments on the side, that was gold.

I mean, how many cries of, "Are we there yet?" can parents stand before they just turn the van around and go home?
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2005 Colin was so great in retrospect. Him and the Ox, with his girlfriend making sarcastic comments on the side, that was gold. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, Colin was legendary. There'll never be another Colin. I enjoyed watching season 5 a lot more knowing how it all turned out. Colin was more funny than annoying. Between "I'M PACKIN' IT!!!" and "My ox is BROKEN!! This is BULLSHIT!!", he was comedy gold. MDH257 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2005 Does anyone actually think there was someting wrong about Chip & Kim yielding Colin & Christie. I mean it was within the rules. On the crime scale I thought lying to Brandon & Nicole about the flag and island being wrong was worse. BTW, it's going to be a while before I hear the word "Cookie" and not think about Kelly from Season 4.

starvenger 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2005 Definitely off the charts. And I always found it funny that Lori would always complain about her implants for some reason...
Slayer 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2005 I'll admit, in spite of my perpetual cynicism towards reality TV over the course of this decade, when my g/f started watching this a couple episodes into Season 3, I was slightly intrigued, first by the international locales, then by aspects of the race itself ...then Flo won, and that reignited my cynicism due to the fact that it seems most of the winners of these long-run game shows (ne: reality TV) are always the most controversial (i.e. annoying or stupid) characters. I stuck with season 4 for the hell of it and told myself if the redhead bitch and her man won then I would not watch anymore. Thankfully the gay couple won... but I didn't watch Season 5 anyway because the first episode just plain failed to capture my interest (even if it did have a midget). What's funny, looking at the family edition, is that only two teams have preteen kids and maybe one or two others have young teenagers, otherwise they're all adults. So you're an adult and you get your adult family members to sign up for this thing, expecting to go to the same exotic locations you've seen on previous episodes... then you find out because a couple of kids are involved that you're not going outside of NA... how gyped would you feel? Just goes to show that kids ruin everything They were probably afraid if they went to someplace like Asia the kids would get kidnapped and wind up working in a sweatshop... or worse

We don't give the guy enough credit for dragging Nicknameforthattimeofthemonth around the world - and winning. We just remember that his partner was such a whiny bitch that she makes just about anyone else tolerable. As for the adult teams on TAR: Jumping the Shark... I'm thinking that there's no excuse for the Alpha Male team and the brothers/sister team to finish outside of the Top 3. What kind of ridicule would you get if you were Philiminated before a 9-year old?
Slayer 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2005 What's funny about Zack's monumental carry is that it took two seasons after that for them to finally balance out the Roadblock, a little too late after Jon carried Kelly through AR4, or the top three guys carrying their respective gals through AR5 (which I imagine was what forced the change)
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2005 Yeah, if the Roadblocks were even in TAR5, I think the Bowling Moms would've had a real shot at winning. For two fortysomething women, they were awesome at the physical challenges.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2005 Watching season 6 again, I still can't decide who the bigger douche is, Jonathan or Adam. Jonathan was a complete prick the entire race, but he and Victoria stayed towards the front of the pack while Adam was a whiny mama's boy, though he seemed to step up his game a little as they went on. And though she isn't a master of international relations, Kendra was the hottest female of the whole pack. The sisters rank a close second with Kris third. Hayden just had too much of a butterface.
