Guest J0bber Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 With the WWE's recent addition of a bunch of Hollywood writers who don't know jack about the wrestling business, I have almost been longing for a Vince Russo comeback. At least Russo was a longtime fan of the business and was smart when it came to behind the scenes wrestling knowledge. These current oafs don't know shit. I've read instances where one writer couldn't even recall the Katie Vick angle, which was just a bit under three years ago and another asked JBL how he could make "fake" blood stream from his face. Its called blading bitch. Now that I'm finished with my little rant, I'm just wondering who you would rather contribute to the creative process of your show if you owned WWE. For me, it's obviously Russo. He seems to have straigthened himself up a bit so his gimmicks probably wouldn't cross the line as much as they did in his prime. Also, you'd have guys like Vince, Steph, and HHH around to control his ideas.
Just John Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Russo with a competent overseer who can serve as an idea filter. No debate. Just look at WWF/E's 1998 success vs. their 2005 success.
Si82 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Without doubt, Vince Russo. However, there would have to be somebody above him to filter through some of the horrible crap he comes out with, like Vince McMahon did during his WWF run, and I don't mean Stephanie McMahon. She just seems to let any crap filter through becuase her writers are from Hollywood, so they must be great.
Black Lushus Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 do they allow the wrestlers themselves to provide input in the storylines? okay I mean BESIDES HHH...
Dobbs 3K Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 The problem with Russo is he could come up with exciting or "shocking" moments, but couldn't write storylines for crap. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anything from these "Hollywood writers" currently populating WWE to put any confidence in them. I think I would choose neither and sit at home watching tapes of how it used to be, when wrestling was actually good.
Red Baron Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I'd love to see Russo/Heyman combination and whoever is currently writing the Velocity show.
cabbageboy Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I'd take Russo most certainly over who they have right now....but surely there is some Hollywood writer out there who is a longtime wrestling fan. The problem is that any decent writer is already employed writing movie scripts or a TV show, so the ones left are these soap opera rejects.
CanadianGuitarist Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Let's all agree that wrestling is basically a soap opera anyway. With that in mind, Hollywood writers shouldn't be discredited. Having said that, give me writers with wrestling experience any day.
Corey_Lazarus Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Get me Barry Blaustein. I'd like to see how he'd book a promotion.
Black Lushus Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I wouldn't mind the storylines as much if the level of wrestling talent was a little better...
Dangerous A Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Gotta go with Russo over inexperienced, Hollywood writers. At least at heart, Russo is a wrestling fan. It's how he got started. The man at least knows the business. Sure, he's responsible for some of the biggest WrestleCrap moments of all time, but he at least knows the business and has experience. To be in the business as long as he was also shows he still had a passion for it, and I believe he still has it.
Guest MikeSC Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Seeing as how Kreski owned Russo --- Hollywood writers. And, after seeing WCW in 2000 --- definitely Hollywood writers.
Art Sandusky Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 I'd write my own damn storylines. It's my promotion, by god.
Masked Man of Mystery Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Isn't Russo a reborn Christian now, though? I could live without seeing every wrestler on the show praising the Son of God every week, thank you very much
Guest Moses The Monkey Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 It doesn't seem like Russo is doing anything now, either. He owned a used CD store in Hiram, GA that I used to go to all the time, and they went out of business last week. Anyway, my pick is definitely Russo. Kreski was one of dozens of hollywood writers who actually knew what he was doing.
zyn081 Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Without doubt, Vince Russo. However, there would have to be somebody above him to filter through some of the horrible crap he comes out with, like Vince McMahon did during his WWF run, and I don't mean Stephanie McMahon. She just seems to let any crap filter through becuase her writers are from Hollywood, so they must be great. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cornette as the filter maybe? I'd love to see Russo/Heyman combination and whoever is currently writing the Velocity show. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That would be Court Bauer. Id like to see a booking committee made-up of Vince, Russo, Cornette, Heyman and Bischoff.
