Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I know I'd posted this in another thread, but I think I'd get wider discussion on a specific thread. Is it just me or when Vince Russo left did WWE Magazine go to hell? Back in the day I know they had a lot of kayfabe stories, but at least the pay-per-view results by Keith Elliot Greenberg were well written, you had 'Vic Venom', and some of the stories were just so crazy you got a good laugh (ala KOTR 1995 edition). The split of the magazines really sucked and caused me to end my subscription. I dunno if this is how other people are feeling right now or not, but I'd just like to see what other people think of the current magazine product.
spman 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I haven't read a WWF Publication since about 1994, is it still nothing but Kayfabe nonsense?
The Kid 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I always loved when the WWF Magazine and the Raw magazine were totally seperate. The stories in RAW were so much better. Now they keep throwing in random posters of the female flavour of the month in with the Raw and Smackdown magazines, which just makes it even a bigger waste of money. Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 Yea, the first several issues of RAW magazine when it debuted were kick ass, I loved them and then quit buying. I still remember the first issue having the big spread of Sunny, hott stuff back in the day.
David Blazenwing 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I had a subscription from mid/late 2002 to about that time a year later in 2003... after that, I quit buying and just read them at work (Walgreens) on my lunch break. We get PWI there too, though, and that's a million times better read. I still marked out for the Hurricane cover in I think it was March 2003. Still have that issue too. Awesome cover, awesome article. <-- Hurricane Mark
cameron chaos 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I stopped caring about RAW after the first Victoria pictorial. It couldn't get better after that.

I still remember the first issue having the big spread of Sunny, hott stuff back in the day. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I bought the first RAW Magazine because it had a kayfabe explanation as to why Kevin Nash left the company. Good stuff. Anyone remember Russo's newsletter "Byte This! - with Vic Venom"? I remember it had the tentative lineup for Summerslam 1995 like 2 months before the show. I only got the free trial issue that was advertised in WWF Magazine. Anyone know how long that lasted?
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 A couple years ago, didnt WWE Magazine have some sort of article about how La Resistance was supposedly being investigated by the FBI? You can't get much worse than that.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I confess that I owned the KotR 95 issue (isn't that the one with Mantaur getting taught table manners by HHH?), and like most horny little wrestling nerds of the day, the Raw issue with Sunny.
Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 Yea, I wonder how much those little collector's items would go for on E-Bay today, lol.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I still have most of the early issues of Raw. The "Fantasy Warfare" and "Greatest (WWF/IC/Tag Team) Champions of All Time" articles were big selling points for me. Jim Cornette's columns were pretty good too. GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I remember Bret Hart's son Dallas had a column for a short while in 1995. When I used to bring the magazine to school, my friends and I would joke that he looked like Jonathan Taylor Thomas on crack.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I confess that I owned the KotR 95 issue (isn't that the one with Mantaur getting taught table manners by HHH?), and like most horny little wrestling nerds of the day, the Raw issue with Sunny. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mantaur with HHH wasnt in the KOTR issue, I know this cuz I have been a wwf/e/sd magazine subscriber since 1992 (and got one to RAW when the mags split, even though they suck I still continue to collect the mags) . and the KOR issue I did not get cuz I had moved and it took some time for the post office to get it right. so I am missing that issue (and the free cards that came in it for subscribers only-I have all the rest of them though save for that issue and the one before it that had diesel and sahwn on the cover) Brets son did have acolumn, at first it was a split column with Stephanie Wiand (shortlived cohost of WWF mania) called "for women and kids only" then when she left (not too long after) they changed it to for kids only. His columns were pretty funny, considering that even he didnt break kayfabe (maybe Bret lied to him about wrestling? lol) As I said before I like when they put the postyers in the mags now cuz they usually come in plastic packaging that keeps the mags from getting messed up (as has often happened to me this year- I have had to get several mags replaced cuz of the sorting machines mutilating them and other shenanigans) I have mags dating back to 95 (sadly my 1991-1994 collection, which also had many PWI and even some WCW magazines from the early 90s in it, got ruined in storage)
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 One note, about the new RAW mag (with HBK kicking Hogan on the cover). In the article about past summers' big feuds, they blacked out the block WWF logo on the turnbuckles in pics of Hogan/Quake (90), Luger/Yoko (93) and Hart/Austin (97). WHY? The odd thing is later in the mag in the "fantasy match" (Hogan vs John Cena) section they show a shot of Hogan dropping the leg on quake (I guess from Summerslam 90) and the logoon the buckles , unchanged. What is going on? Someone goofed? HMMMMM For a min, I was thinking that they woudl ahve to start blurring the old logo too. A funny side note, while showing pics of the Zeus/Hogan feud, they show an old PPV ad/poster adverstising the SS 89 main event and it lists in small print "WWF Champion Hulk Hogan" OOPS someone goofed again and let that slip by (the print is really small but you can clearly read it. Enigma 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 The early RAW Magazines used to be really good spank material when I was 13. I spent a lot of time with the first Marlena mag. Oh yes.
Guest xSarahx Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I had a gift sub from 2002-2004 of both Raw and WWE/Smackdown magazine. At first I would flip through and read parts of it but towards the end, I would get them in the mail and just throw them on the stack. I couldn't even read it anymore, they were so ridiculous. Needless to say, I didn't get another subscription.
