Emo kids -- I need an FAQ

So I"ve been hearing this term dropped around a lot lately. Emo kids. Basically, all I know is they have bishonen anime like hair and like certain types of music.

What exactly qualifies someone to be an emo kid? What's the purpose of being one? How prevelant are emo kids in today's society? Is this a trend that's going to stay? What are emo kids' beliefs and aspirations? What statements are they trying to make?

Help me out here and please try to keep any biased remarks out of responses since I sense there will be some.

I describe emo kids as overly emotional, over-priveledged youths who severely lack a sense of perspective. Characterized by a taste for bad music and vintage band t-shirts, they ride the cycle of doing whats not cool until it is cool and then not doing that until it's cool again.

The product of america's numerous follies over the last couple decades.

Emo = Mallgoth or Mallpunk they're all relative They mix Hot Topic with A&F, listen to music that usually falls along the lines of she broke my heart, i'll go to the mall and mourn my loss and wallow in my manufactured sorrow. Examples: see Hardy, Matt Fans of the Hardy Boyz

Listeners of a style of music popularized in the mid-80's when punk bands began writing lyrics mostly about lost and/or unrequited love. The music is usually decent from a technical standpoint, much better than most punk is, but it lacks the actual EMOTION that punk does, making it an ironic sub-genre ("emo" came from "emotional punk," yet it lacks the emotion of actual punk). Fans of emo, called "emokids," tend to be between the ages of 13 and 21, usually borderline anorexic, and wear clothing often too small for their bodies. Male emokids will buy women's pants due to the tightness and low-rise waist, and female emokids will often wear men's shirts (in sizes of Youth Medium and Youth Large, most often), take little to no actual care of their hair, and throw on heavy eyeshadow, eyeliner, and little to no other makeup.

Emokids are a passing phase that will go in and out just as nu-metal did. It doesn't have the lasting power of punk, nor the classicness of actual metal, or even the reinventiveness of indie rock to truly last. Most emokids, upon reaching adulthood, will realize how dumb they acted growing up, and will either become indie rockers or kill themselves.

They're the kind of people you throw footballs and basketballs at in gym class, they get hit, and basically give no reaction.

When they get home they listen to music and cry.

Oh and they wear make-up, regardless of gender and sexual orientation.

link doesn't work

Works if you C&P it.

I'm actually in the process of trying to make time with some emo girl that I met at the bar last week. I've done the one-night stand thing with an emo girl, but never actually tried to, y'know, date one repeatedly. Could be interesting.

Or it could suck eggs.

I do like some emo, but the vast majority is condensending for anyone with real mental illness. It's acting depressed to be trendy to a certain subculture. Emo kids also ruined PBR.

Is the PBR Pabst Blue Ribbon or Pro Bull Riding? Either way I see a lot of pissed off cowboys

Even if High Life wasn't dirt cheap it'd still be one of my favorite beers ... the fact that you can get it at next-to-nothing certainly doesn't hurt, though.

/prefers bottles to cans, even if it's a bit more money

JD has an outside chance of getting pilfered, Laz ... I was at one of the hipster bars in Cambridge the other day and saw people that were borderline emo drinking Jack-rocks ... either they're too new to the scene to realize that it's not cool to drink, or they're on the forfront of the scene and by fall the best whiskey in the world will be embarrassing to order.

And I'm still happy that Jack Daniels and Jager have yet to be assimilated by the Emo Corps.

Emo bitches shouldn't drink either, you need to be pretty tough to swallow that stuff (See my friend and his collection of Jager bottles and his tendancy to "See the Deer"). I personally can't stand Jager but I love my Jack (I still want a bottle of the Single Barrel)

I will agree that Jack has a shot of becoming trendy considering all the swag thats out in stores, also the one thing I fear of being corrupted soon is Guinness for the same reasons as Jack.
