Guest darealdeal21 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 http://news.com.com/Digging+profits+out+of...?tag=nefd.lede- it's a long, multipage article Summary: Microsoft's newest licensing model for the next-generation XBox will effectively lock out 3rd-party accessory manufacturers who don't enroll in Microsoft's licensing and royalty program. The new console will employ hardware security mechanisms to ensure that only products created by developers willing to fork over cash to Microsoft can connect to and work with the console. Is Microsoft shooting itself in the foot by making traditional 'approved product' licensing mandatory for 3rd-party developers? Sooo does this mean that mod chips wont work? Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted August 12, 2005 That's kind of a good thing, though. No shitty third-party accesories, at least.
Golgo 13 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I don't mind this. At least they're not completely locking out third parties and forcing people to ONLY buy first party accessories. And as VX said, it should presumably get rid of some of the awful companies that make crap accessories.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I'd rather spend the extra 5-10 bucks for a licensed Microsoft controller, then a Mad-Catz controller which breaks after a few months.

Madcatz can probably afford it (too bad since their accessories--especially controllers--are awful). Ditto Datel. Pelican? I don't know. If so, that could hurt their value by forcing them to charge higher prices. Hasn't Sony done the same thing with memory cards already? then a Mad-Catz controller which breaks after a few months. You had one that lasted "months?" Impressive.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 It was rarely used unless someone forgot a controller. Its now serving as a cord for the cat to chew on.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 Too bad it won't stop the idiots from Gameshark/Action Replaying their way to unlocking the hidden stuff in games to use on Live..
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 IIRC, the XB action replay are only game saves, not a traditional game enhancer.
