cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2005 This show was at least better than previous weeks if nothing else due to Michaels getting trashed in Montreal as we knew he would be. I too thought they'd have the lame midget crap with Bret and was glad they didn't. I dunno if anyone has thought about this, but does anyone get the feeling Bret will show up at SS to prevent Hogan from getting screwed the way he was? It's really kind of mind boggling since it would be at the MCI Center in DC, which is where Starrcade 97 took place...and on that show Bret made his WCW debut by stopping the "screwjob" in the Hogan/Sting match (even though there really wasn't a fast count). I know Bret can't wrestle anymore but it'd be nice to see him as a special guest ref or an enforcer, etc.

The whole point of this Bret stuff is to plant a little "what if" seed in your mind for the PPV, maybe spurring a couple extra last-second buys. In reality, I'm pretty sure the finish is just going to be HBK going over clean with the superkick.

Guest Biggles Report post Posted August 16, 2005 The HBK/Hogan feud has been great, especially with HBK. HBK did a phenominal job last night, from his opening promo, to this closing Hogan beatdown. But here is my concern. It is typical pre-PPV effect. Normally whoever has the last word, or gives the last punishing, on the televised show before the PPV just about always seem to lose at the actual PPV. HBK was extremely over Hogan last night. Especially when applying the Sharpshooter. Now my question is this, will the pre-PPV overness effect HBK at SS? Also considering that this could be Hogan's final match, would they actually make Hogan go out with loss? The only way I can really see HBK walking away with the 'W' is if they plan on having a remath between the two. I'll be rooting for HBK the whole time, but I think Hogan might be walking out on top
10 Pounds 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2005 I didn't see yet how the show was on TV, but last night was great. The crowd absolutely HATED Michaels and I couldn't hear all of his promo because the crowd was so loud. There were many chants of "We Want Bret" before the show began. Even though the crowd popped huge for Bret's music, I think we all knew that he wouldn't come to the ring, at least not in the beginning of the show. I wished that he could have done an appearance off the air, only for the crowd. When the show came off the air, Cena came to help Hogan but Angle and JBL interfered. Batista's music hit and the crowd went apeshit. It was the best match of the evening, lasted maybe 10 minutes. Mostly the faces controlling the match andm finished with Hogan doing the legdrop on Bradshaw. After that, Hogan-Cena-Batista posed maybe for 10 minutes and that was the end of the show. And, for those of you who wonder what the crowd was chanting during the Edge-Venis match, it was "Salope" and "Charrue", which means "Slut" in French. The hockey chant was "Tu pues d'la noune", which can be loosely translated by "Your snatch's smelly". There was also faint chants of "On s'en calisse" during the Conway-Hurricane match, which means "We don't give a shit". Overall, a great night for booing HBK. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2005 For some reason I can't imagine Hogan going down to a friggin superkick. I can see him getting a bogus Montreal type win on Hogan but for some reason I just can't see Hogan jobbing clean here. It's a tough match to book really...on one hand Michaels needs a big win to vault into title contention, but on the other Hogan can't afford to job too many times if he's going to face Austin at WM next year. I figure there's always time to rebuild Hogan though, WM is a long time off. A loss for Michaels would be a big setback for him, moreso than Hogan.
Silence 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2005 There was also faint chants of "On s'en calisse" during the Conway-Hurricane match, which means "We don't give a shit".<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I actually saw several ringside fans leave their seats sometime at the start of the match and came back as soon as they heard the bell ring, signalling that the match was over. Rob Conway and The Hurricane are definitely in need of better characters and more of a reason to care about them.

Rock: *Awkward pause* Curry: So you did see it? Rock: Yeah. Shit, man. That was pretty fucked up. You're right. Michaels needs this more then I do.

King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2005 Even Bret would have a hard time putting a Sharpshooter on trick hip Hogan. I bet Vince is kicking himself that HBK/Hogan won't be in Montreal. The heat for that would be off the charts.
