What's going on with Tajiri?

Recommended Posts

I haven't really seen Tajiri on TV since his goofy mini-feud with Chris Masters last month on Raw, so what's the current status on him? Injured, not being used, taking a break?

It kind of makes me think that he's the next to be released sometime later on from WWE since they haven't done anything with him for a while now. He hasn't even wrestled on HEAT.

Yeah, I know this was a pointless thread since if WWE doesn't think too much of Tajiri, why should we? :bonk:

It's just another case of WWE not bothering to do anything with a guy who's a perfectly fine worker and has an interesting character. They just don't bother doing anything with most of their midcarders anymore.

Heh heh, that's what I thought too.

Remember in 98 and such when they had something for everyone. Midcarders like D-Lo and even the crappers like DOA managed to get on tv all the time. They have way too many guys and keep giving the same few people too much time

One of the newly signed wrestlers that is currently learning the WWE style in OVW?

Vince to the newly signed wrestler:"Pepsi SUCKS! I like Coke better, damn it! Oh, and cut your hair and get rid of that jacket, you're no punk rocker, and this Straight Edge crap is bullshit! You need to be more marketable, so we're changing your look! 'Cause I'm Vincent Kennedy McMahon, damn it!"

Newly signed wrestler:"I'm still better than you..." *Gives Vince the straight edge "X" sign*

Vince:"OK, that's it! You're gonna suffer the same fate that Shelton Benjamin has suffered for the past few weeks for trying to impress the crowd with in-ring ability.....You're gonna job to.....CHRIS MAAASSSSTERRRRRRSSSS!"

Newly signed wrestler thinks:"Oh fuck....where the hell is Stevie Richards when you need him?"

I saw Tajiri wrestle Chavo (Kerwin White gimmick) @ a RAW house show in KY last month where he lost, of course. He definitely seems to be using a toned down style which takes away from his ring presence. I have no idea where he is, but he's probably just another victim of the crowded WWE roster and/or the fact that RAW only cares about the main eventers/upper midcard when it comes to storylines anymore.

So they just recently told him to stop using his trademark kicks? What the hell? What did his offense consist of because of that shit? Punch-kick-clothesline?

In reference to '98, yeah, that was one of the good things when Russo was writing for WWF...everyone had some kind of motivation or storyline no matter what. Now look at the WWE roster, and how many guys seem to have no real purpose, other than the fact that they're a wrestler in the WWE? :P

I don't remember the exact play-by-play of the match, but Tajiri didn't use a lot of kicks, didn't use any high-risk manuevers or aerial moves, and his only high spots were the handspring elbow off the ropes (which I marked out for) and the Tarantula.

Kerwin dominated most of the match with chinlocks and headlocks which was also bad as hell b/c it bored the hell out of me. Plus, I figured a Chavo 2.0-Tajiri match would go the air a little, BUT I was totally wrong. It was mostly a resthold based match and was quite awful.

So yea, Tajiri was toned down and it made me disappointed finally getting to see him wrestle, BUT he got an awesome reception from the crowd (probably more than anyone else on the show save for John Cena & HBK) so I don't see why the WWE doesn't get behind him. God forbid if LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY digs Tajiri there have to be other arenas out there that would too.

That sounds terrible (although I do think I remember reading a report from you about the disappointing Kerwin/Tajiri match). However, the WWE style has become even worse now with cruiserweights being told not to use SSP's or 450's. I know the high-risk moves were toned down a few years ago in WWE, which I've mostly noticed in WWE cruiserweight matches in the last few years anyway, but I still think that because of the ban on the two moves I just mentioned in the last sentence that the matches will be even more lacking than ever in WWE, which is why I hope TNA succeeds on Spike with better quality matches, along with Jarrett losing the power struggle and leaving TNA for good.
