cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 I dunno, the SS 93 with Yoko/Luger was such a sour spot to me personally due to the cheap finish that I never remembered anything else about the match or show. In fact put that on the show with a booking crutch that I absolutely loathe (namely the Lawler/Bret finish with the overturned DQ decision) and that show isn't real high on my list of favorites. I was stunned to read the Keith rant and see such high marks for the matches, since I have a hazy memory of that show sucking. Of course Yokozuna used his fatness well....EVERY fat fuck does that. Hell, King Kong Bundy could squash people with sheer fatness. I have not seen those Bret matches mentioned, or if I rented those tapes I obviously don't recall now. The two WM matches with Bret both suck so it's not like I'd go out of my way to find more. So the guy had a few matches where Bret carried the hell out of him....the other 95% of his WWF work still sucks. The three worst title runs ever in my view are Yokozuna in 1993-94, Diesel in 1995, and JBL recently. Note in every case it was a guy getting the belt for an obscene amount of time without remotely deserving such a run.

There were no other big heels aside from Yokozuna and Flair (who lasted a whopping 3 weeks in 1993)...Business was down and when that happens, you put the title on a heel and hope the babyface chase works. It was Yokozuna or Lex Luger they had to choose from, McMahon thought Luger could be over like Hogan. People may argue, Bret should have extended his reign, but remember he already was champion for 7 months and with the exception of Lex Luger and a heel turned Perfect, Hart was already out of options for a title feud. Do you really think Lawler would set the world on fire in 1993 as a title contender? However, WWE had a sea of faces to throw at Yokozuna. Yoko had the presence and potential appeal. They weren't going to make money in 1993 anyways, so they stuck with tradition and had a monster heel hold title with the babyface chase...
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 I'm mostly happy with the suggested choices (except Vs. Isaac), but of course we have to nitpick just a little so as for myself, I'd also like to see Harts Vs. Demos from SS 90, Hart Vs. Piper from WM 8, as well as Hart Vs. Lawler from KOTR 95. I wouldn't mind seeing Benoit Vs. Hart from Mayhem on there, even though it wasn't as good as the Owen Hart Tribute match, just put on there for historical significance that it was Bret's first WCW Championship win. You can be assured that's on the dvd. Hopefully it'll be used to tie in the whole Lawler angle that lasted 3 years, since that was the best match that involved the two (the doink match/segment was great, I'll give you that) but this was bret carrying a slug like Yankem. There's no need to place the Mayhem match on it, it's a below par match for both and they know it. I would show the finish during the package to set up the Goldberg match (which should have Bret doing commentary on)
Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 That Bret-Hakushi match better be on the DVD. I believe that match was in Louisville, Kentucky and I couldn't convince my dad to get tickets for it at the time. Helluva match.
benoit4hor 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 The Bret/Yankem match is actually pretty damn good. Kane wore the working boots that night.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 Where is the match (I think it was Nitro, maybe on Halloween Havoc) where Lex Luger made Bret Hart submit clean to a half-crab?
Sass 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 Halloween Havoc '99. Bret sold the bad ankle for weeks.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2005 If only this DVD was still titled Screwed, then we might have been able to have that one on DVD finally.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted August 26, 2005 Instead of talking about what matches should/shouldn't be on this DVD, Let's change it up and dicuss how should the cover and packaging be done? I love the Ric Flair design, elegant and classy and simple. I honestly believe Bret Hart deserves that treatment as well instead of the generic one box snap case that all the other superstar dvd's get.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2005 I think the cover will be the full size version of this picture:
Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2005 I want the Flair type of cover/packaging also, it would be perfect. I wonder what the sales numbers will be for this DVD after it's been out a while. Do we have a new #1 WWE released DVD on our hands now?

cameron chaos 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2005 I have some of these matches already but I may pick up this set provided Hart provides full commentary explaining the match psychology as they progress. As a real ring general, it could be quite insightful to hear his take on things.
