Guest rawmvp Report post Posted August 23, 2005 Chris Jericho has accomplished everything he's wanted to in the wrestling business. He is a former WCW and WWF champion, a seven-time Intercontinental champion, WWF European champion, WWF Hardcore champion, WWF/WWE tag team champion, WCW cruiserweight champion, WCW TV champion...he's done it all in this business. I don't think Chris Jericho will ever come back. His dislike for the creative team won't change. He'll go on to Hollywood, tour with Fozzy, and appreciate life after wrestling...until he gets the ultimate enticement -- an opportunity to win the 2006 Royal Rumble in Miami, Florida and the chance to win the WWE Title in the main-event of WM 22. It will be the vindication that Jericho has always craved, the legitimacy he's always wanted -- the chance to be given a fair shake with WWE, so that his run as the dog-scooping transitional champion in 2002 can be virtually expunged. It will be Vince's first, serious attempt at trying to capitalize on Jericho like he should have in the summer of 2000. Jericho will accept Vince's offer, become a surprise entrant in the Rumble, outlast 29 other men, and defeat Kurt Angle for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 22. claydude14 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 I could see Jericho return for the Rumble, but I don't see him winning it and/or main eventing WM in any regard. A mid card match with RVD if he stays on RAW or maybe a match against Rey or Eddy if he came back to Smackdown! since he was fired from RAW.-
Scroby 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 You just forgot one little major thing....THERE ALL ON RAW! and if you think for one second that HHH won't main event at Wrestlemania 22 in a match involving the title, your really really wrong....ESPICALLY if Jericho could be in the match. Scroby 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 Jericho, Angle, Cena, and HHH are all on the same show which is Raw. If you think for one second HHH wouldn't want to be in the main event for the title at Wrestlemania 22 then you seriously must be a new fan of wrestling or an complete idiot. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 Jericho would go to Smackdown, being fired from Raw and everything. This would be all right, actually, since Batista is 90% sure to drop the title for his grudge match with Brock (if he even keeps it this long, but if they want both guys to look unstoppable they'll need to keep it on him until Rumble.) While I'd like to see Jericho and Eddie fight over the belt, I doubt it'll happen.

RedJed 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 This is a very far fetched, "what if" thread, and quite frankly, pointless. They've already been there, done that, with Jericho. He won the title back in 2001 - doing it again, whether he is a face of heel, would be uncreative and there are much other better choices than this. Having him win the Rumble and main event Mania 22 - I'm sorry, but it wont draw. I'm definately a Jericho fan but am sensical to see that he's been underutilized so much in the past that this would bomb horribly if they did it, from a business perspective. Oook. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course someone can, but can you legitimately say that building Jericho back up as a world title contender for a Mania main event is good business considering how they have pussy footed around with his pushes in years' past? Its just not smart. Plus it makes no sense anyway when you have plenty of others who are currently getting the pushes forward who could use the Rumble win more than him. Now if Jericho had never been in a world title situation, and/or never won the title, it would at least make a little sense since you could build to his first big chase to the WWE main title, much like they did with Benoit and Eddy a few years ago. Carnival 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 If Jericho comes back, he will be on Smackdown, and he will be in the mid-card fighting for the US title.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 No I think the ship has sailed when it comes to Jericho but your statement made it sound like "Hey he was the champ already. Putting the belt on him again would be uncreative!" as if you meant putting the belt on a former champion was "unoriginal" or something. That's why I only mentioned that point. But yeah, Jericho's dead and buried as far as his title hopes are concerned. If WWE had any intention of putting Jericho anywhere near the title when he comes back, he wouldn't have been made to look really bad (begging for his job then crying while being escorted out? Didn't see it but from all accounts it was embarrassing)
RedJed 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 Yeah to me it came off pretty much as a burial last night, unfortunately.
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 I thought they were just (unsuccessfully) going for the "Na Na Na Na" chant. Or they wanted him to stay heel for when he returns, and leaving with dignity would be too face-ish.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 Jericho has been so ruined by bad booking for the last four years that him winning a World title again at this point would be basically unbelievable, and wouldn't get over with the crowd. If he is going to come back, I think he needs to come back as a completely different character. Don't get me wrong, he'll still be "Chris Jericho", but not "Y2J" anymore. He can't be a comedic wrestler. No more silly catch phrases like "Ayatollah of Rock & Rolla", etc, whether he's face or heel. No more hosting the "High Light Reel," either. All that stuff makes him come off like he doesn't care about wrestling, and losing doesn't bother him. We can't have that anymore if Jericho is going to come back. I would have him come to Smackdown as an "evil mastermind" type heel. Have him head up a stable with a tag team and maybe one other wrestler. Have him beat opponent after opponent, and give him a new finisher. The "Walls of Jericho" never beats anyone, and the Lionsault is a joke. He should have new theme music and new tights as well. Have him cut serious promos, and have him cheat to win. Don't job him much at all, at least not on TV. Basically just completely overall Chris Jericho to move him into the "veteran main eventer" spot that he should have been at about three years ago.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 He was fired by his boss buddy. He could have stood to give him an enguiziri or have Cena beat Bischoff up and Jericho just looks on while walking away while Angle came from behind and attacked Cena. They already made it clear that the loser would be fired. They didn't need to do that skit. The fact they did shows they wanted to make Jericho look bad as thanks for carrying Cena to a what I hear was a good match at SSlam.
Guest rawmvp Report post Posted August 23, 2005 What do you mean Jericho winning the World Title wouldn't get over with the fans? This is the same guy who was cheered over Mr. Bulletproof John Cena after being treated like a joke and a jobber leading up to his title shot at SummerSlam. If WWE starts to utilize him a little correctly FOR ONCE, he'll be than just over, he'll be OVA~!
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 That's easy to say. Of course Jericho "could" get over with the belt if he was used correctly, but that process would take a long time, as to deconstruct the fans' mentality towards him to make them think he has credibility, which he doesn't have at this point. I'd say more than 1 year would be needed to sink into rebuilding Jericho's credibility (No a 1 month dominant streak is not going to cut it as the fans would think he'll be undermined sooner than later at the point). I don't see WWE sinking so much time into him, with his detractors (believe it or not, the writers aren't too fond of Mr. "This writing sucks!" and there is a certain son in law of Vince's...). Rawmvp, it's nice to hope and think Jericho would be used correctly, but you'd be better off not expecting that.
Guest rawmvp Report post Posted August 23, 2005 Not to mention, WWE fans have short-term memories. A 6 month sabbatical for Jericho would do him wonders in the eyes of the fans; it would be a fresh start, especially if he re-debuts with a new look and slightly new gimmick. Just because he's getting some cheers at SummerSlam doesnt mean he will be a draw. Its wishful thinking but delusional if you think its just "this easy." Plus the point as well is there are alot of others on the roster who would deserve a Rumble win and a main event push to Mania than Jericho at this point too. And thats not me saying Jericho sucks or anything, its just that it hasnt been built up properly and would take more than just a Rumble win to do so. He'd have to be in main events pretty consistently beforehand, like we're talking numerous months in the very least. They gave him the undisputed belt(s), he beat Austin and Rock TWICE in a matter of two months, and he STILL wasnt credible (yes, I know the booking sucked too). So how do you think it would be different this time? And for what its worth, I thought Jericho could have also been used alot WORSE in the buildup v. Cena. In fact I thought it was pretty well done. If anything the person coming out of the buildup looking like shit was Carlito.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 I honestly think Jericho got a sympathy type cheer at SS. Either that or there's a section of the fans that flat out doesn't like Cena and will go for anyone he wrestles.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2005 I'm glad some people agree his gimmick would need to be changed, even if just slightly. If they just do a "Y2J is back in the WWE!" after two months type deal, and he just comes back out as the same old Jericho cutting the same old Y2J promos, the fans will just assume he's going to be not winning any big matches like usual. If he comes back with a new gimmick, the fans will take notice.
Guest rawmvp Report post Posted August 23, 2005 I think the fans cheered for Jericho at SummerSlam because 1) It was his first title shot in three years, reminding many fans that Jericho never got a fair shake in WWE, 2) Cena's offense looks incredibly sloppy, which brings me to 3) Even the dumbest fan could plainly see that Jericho was working his ass off, trying to CARRY Cena to a decent match, 4) Cena only panders to women and children now, and is far from the character who won over everyone in 2003, 5) Cena's hip-hop character has a short shelf-life, 6) Cena's entire storyline with Bischoff is a blatant rip-off of the original (and masterful) Austin-McMahon saga that preceded it, 7) Jericho is the one guy who has uncannily managed to stay over with the fans, even after being buried time and time again. If you remember, Jericho is one the guys that fans in the WWF had pegged to be the next superstar in 2000. The fans chose him, unlike someone like Randy Orton or HHH in '99, who were shoved down everyone's throats until we came to half-heartedly accept them. But what did WWE do? They reversed the infamous title change against HHH, and to redress (note the sarcasm) the matter, they had Jericho lose to HHH in their famous Last-Man standing match at Fully Loaded 2000. Two years later, they had him scoop dog shit, when he was the first-ever simulataneous WWF and WCW heavyweight champion. After that, he became a JTTS, and this past Sunday, he finally got his title shot, and 50 % of the fans cheered for him. Why? Because they REMEMBER what should've been -- he was the guy who deserved more.

Did Meltzer or anyone ever say whether or not the stuff on wwe.com about negotiations ending was a work? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Negotiations ending was a shoot, but Lesnar will be back at some point. Everyone comes back at some point. And Jericho is not winning the 2006 Rumble, much less winning the WWE title at WM 22. Jericho is not seen at that level. Anyone who thinks this could happen is living in fantasy land.
