This Week In College Football 9/1 - 9/5

Recommended Posts

You'll see a very big one here in the next few weeks, a VERY big one.

Is this a generalistic prediction, or do you have a specific game in mind?

I have quite a few actually, but I need to see the teams playing before I make the call. Some of the so called "top ten" really aren't good enough to be in the top 25.

The bottom conferences are going to do a lot of damage this year, a lot of damage. The OU/TCU game I called a couple weeks ago because I just didn't think OU had anything to change my mind. Bad line with no quarterback and depleted defense means loss. I don't need to see a team play to figure out that one.

So did you guys expect that from me? Or did you expect me to come in here typing in all caps and going nuts?

Some more points:

--Those QB's needed to run a little bit more. Chuck Long is SCARED of having his QB's run.

--They are too bullheaded with their offensive philosophy! Rhett Bomar and Paul Thompson are not good enough to run the same offense that Jason White ran so don't force them to do it! They did this with Nate Hybl too. He can't do what Josh Heupel does but they tried to force him to do it! Fuck Chuck! You seem to forget who Jason White was! Unless your last name is Leinart or Jacobs you probably won't run the offense like he did in that system!

--TCU had no respect for OU's passing game(rightfully so!). They lined up 8 men in the box everytime. Even on that last drive where you knew OU was going to throw it. Did they throw it deep to Wilson? Hell no. They tried those short passes.

--Everyone is going to stack the box and take Peterson away. Unless the QB learns to pass or the O-Line learns to block then Peterson won't make it to the Texas game. He'll be in intensive care. They are going to KILL him!

--Bob obviously didn't get the recruits over the past few years b/c his teams were so good. He probably scared off all the good players!

--I didn't see a lot of heart today.

--OU's mystique is gone. Pretty much always during Stoops tenure they've been able to intimidate opponents and use this air about them. But when you lose 2 National Title games in a row including a 55-19 ass whipping that mystique is gone! Yeah USC was the #1 team in the country but they still whipped your ass guys! You can't push people around anymore.

--They'd better come out next weekend and shove Tulsa around and put up 50 or else they're going to have a long day at UCLA. Fuck they're going to have a long day at UCLA no matter what.

--I'd be estatic if this team somehow went 9-2 and went to the Holiday or Cotton Bowl. Hell I'd be fucking jumping for joy! Right now I'm thinking we're heading straight for the ALAMO BOWL.

--Hell I'd LOVE to see us drop out of the Top 25 and have to FIGHT our ways back in.

How'd I do guys? Did you expect more of a meltdown? Or am I being rational? I'm trying not to be an ass about things this year so everyone doesn't hate me here.

Oh and I just noticed Colorado is getting beat by CSU. Well the Big XII was up last year but it's just COMPLETE ASS this year. And Big XII in basketball will suck too. Man what a down year for the conference on all cylinders.

Well, I drank enough last night that I missed most of the morning, but when it comes to OU and Tennessee, all I can say is I told you so. I remember when I was saying that they didn't deserve to be in the Top Ten and Dama and his Sooner mark buddies were saying it was ridiculous. Well, I'm pretty sure they won't be anywhere near the Top Ten this week.

Tennessee hasn't fucked their season over yet or anything, and there certainly nowhere near as bad as OU, but I really don't see them being the absolute Top 5 team they were purported to be, and a lot of weaknesses were revealed against UAB today. I'd put them behind Florida, Alabama, and LSU among teams with a real chance to win the SEC.

I personally think there's a good chance that they're losing the UCLA game and the Texas Tech game, and the Texas game does not look good. Personally I think 7-4 or 8-3 this year and probably the Cotton Bowl. They could have a 2001 FSU year.

As for Tennessee, if Florida looks good in their tune-up games they'll beat Tennessee, and I think the Alabama game could very well be a loss.

I kinda feel bad for Boise State, they had been preparing and hyped up for this game all spring and summer and they're getting dominated. Hopefully they can turn it around...

Well...I still say those two fumbles cost the game. So bad O-Line or not they could have won had both Bomar and Thompson not fumbled away the ball next to the TD line.

The defense really was mixed. The D-Line was pretty decent while the secondary was shit.

Let's wait and see Florida, Alabama, and LSU play first, smartass. Also, please leave your crappy rankings out - they blow, hard.

This is very early in the season and while I'll admit an OU loss it is too early to predict bowl placements for anyone. My prediction still stands that we will have a full season of no undefeated teams.

I still say my comments about purple being kryptonite is true.

We always have trouble with KSU and I mean we lost to TCU and Northwestern a couple of times in the 90's and now we lose to TCU today!

I nominate taking Cal's Top 25 spot away immediately for being up only 10-3 at the half against a bad I-AA team in Sacramento State. Sac State went 3-8 last year.

I did give you feedback.

Bombar and Thompson have to become a passing threat for OU to be a dual edged sword again. The enemies will load that box constantly, preventing AD from running until the QB's can show that they can be just as dangerous in the air.

The O-Line needs to learn about this new concept called 'blocking' and holding the line. The box crumbled in seconds on Bomar causing that big fumble. I know these guys just need some game time to get better, but this is Oklahoma, there is no time to develope over a series of games. They have to be top-knotch now, and they should have done it around 11 am today!

The Defense was average, yes, with the secondary making them average. We played a team that was the absolute worst pass defense last year. Rookie QB's or no, OU should have been tossing left and right on those fools, especially when they were loading the box.

A lot of people complained about Jason White last year, but we would have won that game with him in there.

Dama, You are trying to hard to impress us by your "calm" attitude.

If you were honestly "calm", you wouldn't be asking if your attitude was acceptable.

That being said, Your points on the horrid performence of the Sooners was generally spot on.

Every great program has to have a year or two away from the top spots.

You should sit back and enjoy the rebuilding. Allow yourself to adjust to the new players and watch them mature.

...with Ohio State as an example on the rebuilding.

Oh hell no we won't lose to Nebraska.......I hope. I'm not guranteeing any fucking victories this season. Not after what I saw today.

Oh and it was funny because this morning on the radio this guy was saying "Whoever wins the North is just playing for a big league spanking in the Big XII title game" And I now it's like "Well if OU SOMEHOW makes it to that game then they aren't getting any spankings."

Yeah Miami has been "down" so to speak losing 3 games last year and I figure that may be where OU is at now.

I guess it's hard to believe though just because of Bob Stoops and what he has done at OU. I mean the man's accomplishments and achievements speak for themselves. So it's just hard to see OU having a down season after the incredible ride we've been on for 5 years! But I mean once you go up there's only one place to go. Back down.

Not everyone can sustain it. Because of how high they've been riding I have a feeling when USC comes down they're coming down hard.

Oh and KNK the reason I'm trying to "impress" is just b/c I've been the most hated man in college football for 2 years and I want that to change.

Oh and funny thing. I actually talked to some TCU fans on the way out and we had some funny dialogue.

This one guy goes "Hey I'm your biggest fan for the rest of the season! That way we look great for beating you!"

and I said "I'm your biggest fan! If you win a bunch then we don't look as bad!"

We had a good laugh and he said "Man you guys are pretty gracious about this loss. If this was at LSU or Arkansas we'd have to buy a home team jersey and act pissed off to even make it out alive."

I'm not going to say anything about OU's loss...I figured without White they'd be a bit down this year. That said, the Tenn. score doesn't shock me at all. I didn't think the Vols were shit last year, having to barely survive against UK and Vandy...not sure why they are top 5.

That said, if you guys want a meltdown you might get one if U of L loses to UK tomorrow. Cards are 22 pt. favorites, and if we lose our dream season to this crappy UK team....surely not. Right?

After the 1st quarter, I'd say that the ND offense looks pretty good other than the Quinn INT. If they had a better defense, I'd predict them to win 8 games this year. I sense a lot of shootouts for them this year.

Boise has just gotten bent over the barrel here, 48-13.

A nice win for the Gators tonight. Chad Jackson was brilliant, with four touchdowns (three receiving including a spectacular one handed touchdown) and one rushing. Chris Leak at one point had something like 17 straight completions. Also, Josh Portis looked very well as a Freshman and looks like a great fit for the future of the spread-option. Urban Meyer after the game said "Just ask Oklahoma how hard it is to win a Division 1-A game".

Man why does he have to be a jackass like that? I guess everyone is going to take their shots at us now? But that was kind of uncalled for.

Maybe he's pissed b/c recruits say he tries to be Bob Stoops too much.

Don't take it so personally. He is just poiting out how hard it is to win in Division 1-A. He would have said the same thing if Tennessee or any of those teams lost.

Closer than they probably should be games going on right now, all in the 3rd:

Alabama 16, Middle Tenessee 7

Arkansas 28, SW Missouri St 17

Nebraska 12, Maine 0

Oklahoma State 15, Montana St 10

Iowa State 22, Illinois St 15

Kansas 12, Florida Atlantic 7

Maryland scored in the final minute to avoid an upset to Navy. Virginia was only up five against Western Michigan in the 4th before putting it away late.
