Recommend Games

Recommended Posts

I really don't need to be getting more games with all the unfinished and a few unopened ones I have, but fuck it. I just got a DS and all I have is Nintendogs, and I'm getting a PS2 later this week. Recommend some good games for the PS2, DS, and GBA, please. The cheaper, the better. I pretty much like all genres, with my favorites being RPGs, platformers, shooters (not FPS, real shooters) and anything quirky, unique, and/or innovative.

I'll assume you know about the wrestling games already

Playstation 2

Final Fantasy X(X-2 has some fun things to it as well if you can get past the inherant sillyness of it)

Metal Gear Solid 2(haven't played the full 3 yet, just a demo, but it looked good too)

Summoner 2(a little reptitive, but still fun)

Growlanser Generations(older games, look like PS1 ports, but you get two solid games in there)

I don't play a whole lot of games these days, but these are a few that have impressed me.

Thanks... Yes, I know about the wrestling agmes already. Sports games, I already own on the Xbox. I also have GTA III and Vice City on Xbox. Basically, I'm looking for games that are PS2 exclusives.

Nintendo DS:

Meteos. It's all about Meteos.

GBA:

Sigma Star Saga. I hate RPGs, but I've enjoyed this one a great deal, because it has such an odd concept; skill based gameplay. All of the random battles are done in Gradius style Shoot-em-up fashion.

Ninja Five-O. Sounds like crap, but it's really an excellent game. If you enjoyed Shinobi, it's a lot like that, but much faster and with a few different mechanics. It's a very good ninja action game.

PS2:

The Mark of Kri. An intuitive stealth-action game with a presentation unlike anything else out there. Incredibly gory, however, especially once you get the axe.

God of War. Also hellaciously gory, but fun and challenging like the new school action games of Devil May Cry. Also incredibly difficult. The big difference is that your character in God of War is a cruel bastard, and the game rewards you for being a cruel bastard.

Rygar. See above, but different. You're a good guy, equipped with Diskarmor, a crazy shield buzzsaw thing on a chain, out to destroy save his crumbling empire from monsters. Not much story, but good clean fun. The reason I recommend the action games is it's one of the two genres that Sony can confidently lay claim to having the best of; RPGs and crazy-shit tough action games. The only competetor on other systems to the latter is Ninja Gaiden, and that thing is -HARD-.

Katamari Damacy. You've probably heard the stories about how utterly screwed up the game is. They're all true. But, the game is also one of the most original games in gaming history. It's utterly bizzare, and a lot of fun.

Maximo. Ghouls and Ghosts 3D, essentially.

Yeah, that's all that comes to mind.

Maybe be mainstream as hell, but Ratchet & Clank were some friggin' awesome games for the PS2.

Also, while it isn't an exclusive, everybody should play "Metal Arms"

Five-O's got a little bit of the Bionic Commando thing going on with the wire as well. However, to play the entire game, you have to play it on hard. Last level is filled with gigantic beams that just nuke your health, so it takes forever to make much progress. Still damn fun, though.

Sigma Star Saga also a ditto. However, it can be frustrating when you get stuck with the huge, slow as hell ship. You knew about the game way back when though.

Any of the Klonoa games are excellent (GBA and PS2, although PS1 original is worth checking out as well), although they're a bit on the easy side. The original game holds up well too.

Ape Escape 2 (PS2): Kind of a short game, but so damn fun it shouldn't be passed up.

Rumble Roses (PS2): A bit short on modes, but plays better than any of the WWE games on the big 3. Circuit City has it for 10 bucks, and by looking around you should be able to find it for under 20 easily.

Ratchet and Clank: UYA is only $15 this week. I must get it, but I'd rather play the series in order...

Definitely check 'em out, although I feel Going Commando is the best one.

Looks like I'll be getting a DS when Dawn of Sorrow hits. Most of the reviewers who have played it seem to like it more than Aria and it may very well be as good as SotN (or darn close).

Gotta get Kirby: Canvas Curse for the DS. I love Meteos as well, but it's done nothing but collect dust ever since I booted that up. Innovative and fun gameplay, vibrant and sharp graphics, catchy music, and gobs of replay value adds up to one of the DS' finest games.

Also, I'd reccomend picking up Advance Wars: Dual Strike. I haven't played it yet, but the reviews I've read have said that it's even better than the GBA versions, which were excellent.

Regarding Katamari Damacy; pick it up if you can find it cheap (though $20 is pretty cheap to begin with), but otherwise, wait for We Love Katamari in a couple months. I imported it and, even though I love KD, the sequel is about ten times better.

Thanks for the recommendations. As for the PS2 games, i really wanted to be reminded of gaems I had forgotten, since I had a general idea of a few things to pick up anyway.

For the DS, Kirby and Meteos were the two main games I was looking at. Are they worth the $30-35, though? I've heard they're a lot of fun, but does Kirby have replay value? I loved all the older Kirby games, but they could be finished in a few hours. As for Meteos, is it worth buying mainly to play single player?

Shit... After $150 for the PS2 and $25 for a memory card, that's close to $200 after tax. I'm not going to be able to afford many games... Oh well, I can wait for the late October Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale.

I can say without question that Kirby is. It's got a fairly lengthy main game to begin with (eight levels, three stages apeice) as well as something called Rainbow Run. In that mode, you need to complete each stage in a certain amount of time or by using a certain amount of ink. Doing so awards you medals that you can use to unlock music, different-colored ink, and other tidbits. Also, there are medals hidden in each stage of the main game, and I imagine it'd take a while to find all of them. Plus, there are a few extremely fun minigames that also award medals depending on how well you perform on them.

The Viewtiful Joe games (multiple Platform) are both cheap and fun.

If you like survival horror, Silent Hill 2 is my favourite of the series, and should be REALLY cheap now.

Disgaea for PS2. Just checked, and it seems to still sell for about $40 on eBay, but considering the sheer amount of gameplay, that's a bargain.

The most fun I've had gaming in the last few years is playing through Legend of Zelda: Four Swords with four people. Seeing as you need the game, a Gamecube, 4 GBAs and 4 link cables, it could be the most expensive game out there. Plus though VS. is fun, I don't imagine co-op is any good once you've beaten it once.

Lastly, yeah, God of War is the shit.

I just won a GameBoy Advance SP (the plantinum one) with Super Mario Advance 4 (Mario 3) in a raffle at school. I don't play games anymore, so they're both unopened and I want to get rid of them. I need cash for new ice skates so I'll gladly sell the two together (or seperately) at a greatly reduced price. Just throught I'd give my smarkboard brothers first crack before I try ebay. If anyone is interested email: [email protected].

End of Spam.

For DS, my favorite game right now is WarioWare: Touched. Can't go wrong with it. Just trying to unlock everything takes ages and is really fun. A lot of replayability there.
