The scenes on the drive over were like something out of War of the Worlds. Cars and people stranded on the side of the road almost the entire way. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Were there tripods and deathrays? chaosrage 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2005 Well my neighborhood didn't flood with Katrina. (I live a little to the south of New Orleans) But it's flooding with Rita. My neighbors just called and said they have 3 feet of water in their house. Everyone is being evacuated by boat. My house doesn't have water yet, because it's built it on a hill, the water is rising though. Good news is I just saved a bunch of money on car insurance by switching to Geico. My parents are in a newly developed subdivision in The Woodlands and the builder was supposed to clean up the excess debris BEFORE the storm and he didn't. No one in the neighborhood believed he would clean it so the neighbors were preapred on Friday morning to clean it themselves. Well the new guy in the nieghborhood thinks the builder is a "good guy" and he called him to see what should be done. The builder told him to burn it all (not in a sarcastic manner) and the idiot did it. So at 9am Friday morning with winds starting to pick up he starts a massive bonfire. The neighbors were not happy with him and the rest of us went to each new house and picked up all the debris in less than 1 hour. The guy obviously made no friends and when he tried to make friends with people that are like family to us (who's house isn't finished yet) he told them that he started a fire right next to their home and threw all the excess debris in their pool so it was safe. Again, he made more enemies. Although Karma does come back to bite you in the ass and a huge tree blew over and nearly missed his house and he was left cleaning it up all by himself yesterday. Last night since we still didn't have power we all had a huge bbq and drank until about midnight. Now we have to get gas into the city and food and we'll be back to normal...for now. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2005 Just to provide another update... Rita's big north turn on Friday meant the storm in my area was, thankfully, not more than a small tropical storm. All I got at my house was a good stiff breeze (some really gusty spurts), an inch of rain, and about 14 hours of no electricity. There was no Internet service until last night and the cable is still kinda screwed up, but all in all it went well. In fact, the only sign that there was even a storm in my neighborhood was that my neighbor's tree was leaning pretty far over on its side; otherwise, you wouldn't even know it happened. The only real downside I have now is that my parents have moved into my house for at least this week. They live east of me, closer to Beaumont and while their house is ok, they have no electricity. We got a Cat4 here, but we were the only house on the street to not suffer severe roof damage. We were without electricity for almost six days.
